Wendy and I like walking, reading, entertaining, good food and wine. I am a keen mountain biker, so the limitless tracks and trails that are available from the end of the drive are absolutely wonderful.
We chose Casa Amarela so that we could enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside, wonderful scenery, flora forna and wildlife but be within a short distance of two towns which provide a good selection of shops and restaurants. We are also not far from the tourist attractions such as beaches, waterparks, golf courses and much more.
Casa Amarela is a traditional Portugese cottage that we have renovated and extended. The view from the front porch all the way down to the coast is something that we enjoy looking at day or night and what set it apart from the rest for us.
Back again, couldn't stay away. All fabulous. Just as well we had three cooler days (25)gave us a chance to do some sightseeing instead of just enjoying ourselves around the pool.
Found some great restaurants.
Our family of 6 stayed for 12 nights at Casa Amarela. I don't think the photos of the villa on the HomeAway site do it justice. The interior is very spacious and comfortable, the villa was very clean and the kitchen particularly well equipped.
The owner Wendy was very accommodating in answering our queries about the villa and surrounding area before we travelled.
The housekeeper and her husband were very helpful as was the local English contact who also gave us advice about the local area.
The cafe across the road do excellent espressos and fresh ground coffee as well as fresh bread and rolls for collection if ordered the day before.
We don't really have any criticisms about the villa. I suppose a larger BBQ would have been better as we ate in a lot.
The choice of games and books at the villa were made good use of and the pool inflatables were a great bonus for our kids. We spent hours of quality family time in the pool and around the pool area, sunbathing, reading, playing board games and having fun!
We ate at a local recommended restaurant Rainha, where the owner, very kindly, insisted on collecting and dropping us back on our last visit, once he realised we were using taxis. The staff were all really friendly and welcoming and a huge bonus that they spoke such good English. Food very good too and reasonable.
Overall the villa was very homely and we enjoyed a very relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.
We hope to return to the Algarve soon and would certainly recommend Casa Amarela to our family, friends and work colleagues.
The perfect house to chill out in - travelled with teenagers so everyone got their own corner to do what they wanted. Lovely front balcony for quiet reading and just watching the moon rise in the evening over the Algarve for the more reflective amongst us - lots of books, dvds, and full selection of TV channels for those who cannot leave the world behind! Patios on all sides of the house to catch the sun and bake, catch a cool breeze, or just enjoy spectacular views across the valley with the orange and lemon groves spreading out.
Very well equipped - down to the superb collection of cook books - even if all I did was look! Fresh bread available each day across the road which is delivered by Maria!
Just superb having AC in each room - it was particularly hot when we were there and just made such a difference from other places we have stayed. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived - and we were well attended to by house managers throughout our stay.
The area is magical, Silves is a different side to the Algarve from the other busier more touristy towns, has a wide selection of restaurants - at better quality and prices than anywhere else on Algarve.
Cannot decide whether to tell everyone about Casa Amarela or just keep it as a wonderful secret bolt hole!
Casa Amarela is a very pretty Villa set slightly up a hill with a lovely view of the valley. The house is very well appointed in terms of space and facilities. We particularly liked the fact that there was a welcome pack and that the previous occupants left their groceries behind for us to use and replace. A very good system.
The house is very comfortable with plenty of extras. The beds are a bit hard but we got round that by sleeping on top of the Duvets. Not sure what you would do if you had a bad back however!!
The linen etc. was all changed half way through which was very helpful.
The swimming pool is good and a man comes to clean it and take care of that side of things. It is secluded and not overlooked at all which is fine. The shallow end is large which would be very helpful if you have small children but not great for swimming ‘lengths’ as you cannot thrash about due to the small depth. It is in the sun most of the day however and was warm enough for plopping in and out.
There are plenty of local restaurants however they do take a bit of searching out. We drove past one several times before we found it as they are not too keen on large road signs. The visitor’s book is very helpful for all that sort of information. Messines is not as attractive as Silves but it has a good market and one very uninspiring restaurant for the outside gave us an excellent meal so reserve judgement until you’ve tried things.
Silves is a delightful old town with historical interest and interesting shops. Well worth a few trips. The people were very friendly and all spoke good English. We weren’t in Portugal to do much sightseeing and we did not venture too far so a guidebook may be well-advised if you wanted to see more. You definiteyl need a car to get about.
I would not recommend the Algarve coast much as there are beaches and sands but far too many people and the pool at the house is a much better. If you want fish and chips and loud music, fine. If not, stay away.
The owners were very helpful when we had a slight glitch with the house, sorting things out immediately via a local English contact.
All in all a good break and I would recommend the Villa to groups and families alike for a happy break.
I loved my stay at Casa Amarela! It was everything you could ask for. With beautiful views, a relaxing environment, gorgeous spacious layout and a fun sized swimming pool. It was so luxurious and the perfect getaway as it was good to either stay in and relax by the pool or go and enjoy the nearby town or go further afield for a day out. The villa is kept in superb condition, and everything you want is easily accessible. I would love to go back again; Casa Amarela is my number 1 recommendation to anyone looking for a fun, relaxing retreat.
Casa Amarela really did have it all; picturesque views from the kitchen window, a decent sized pool, very comfortable living space, comfortable beds, safe surroundings, and most importantly, peace and quite. It was quite simply everything I would look for in a luxury, peaceful holiday.
Casa Amerela is situated in a quite town with friendly locals and a small pub/bar just one hundred metres from the front door. However, just a four mile walk or bus ride will take you into the town of Silves. Silves had a good range of restaurants, supermarkets and shops making it easier to find exactly what we wanted. It must be said that Silves had an excellent tourist information centre that all spoke good English and were only too happy to help. Silves historic castle was fascinating and most definitely worth a visit.
The villa offers a perfect sun trap by the swimming pool for the visitor who just wants to relax in the sun but for the more adventurous visitor, a centralised location to make everything accessible. The facilities within the villa were to an exceptional standard, with everything easy to use and find. The villa also came equipped with a dishwasher, making life far easier with a group of eight of us to feed and water every night. The villa was clean and well maintained with a pool attendant visiting the property around three times a week. I enjoyed the villa so much that I am currently in the process of booking to go once again, later on this year.
Myself and seven other people spent 10 days in this gorgeous villa/area and had such an amazing time. The Villa was spacious and modern with a brilliant pool and amazing views. We didnt have a car and would possibly recomend that a car is a good idea if you are wanting to travel a bit further affield but we used the busses which took you straight into the main town of Silves and taxis which were fairly cheap. The villiage of courtes is so peaceful and overall it was an extreemly relaxing holiday. I would recomend this villa to anyone who would like a peaceful and beautifull area to relax in.
Casa Amarela is situated in the small village of Cortes on the end of the Cumeada ridge between Silves and Sao Bartolomeu de Messines. The villa sits on the side of the ridge with stunning views down to the coast. The surrounding country side is great for hiking, mountain biking, bird watching and some of the Algarves finest golf courses are just a short drive away. Nearby Silves with its historic castle and cobbled streets offers two large supermarkets, it also has many cafes and restaurants to enjoy.
Other Activities: The surrounding area is ideal for bird watching, hiking, mountain biking, cycling and horse riding.
