About Kaija Percy

I grew up in the Northeast Kingdom and recently moved to Southern Vermont to pursue a dream that is almost 30 years in the making: becoming an operating room nurse.

Kaija Percy purchased this house in 2006

Why Kaija Percy chose Burke

My husband and I shared a common dream of building an off-grid log home, so in 2005 we bought some land and he began cutting cedar logs from the land. Two years later we moved into the house and raised our three children there. There are lots of happy memories in this place and we welcome you to come and enjoy the solitude in our little slice of heaven.

What makes this house unique

Grid tied solar and wind power. Beautiful views of Burke Mountain and White Mountains of New Hampshire. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of pristine wilderness.

Spacious and cozy

  • 5 of 5

The house is a great location with a very spacious kitchen and rooms. Very clean and well maintained. Nice view of the mountains. We stayed there for a mountain biking trip and loved it. Only downfall is the distance to town; it's a short car drive but long bike ride. That didn't bother us at all. Definitely recommend and will use again!

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 5 nights and spent most of our time riding at Kingdom Trails. House is only a 7 min drive into town, and some days we just rode to the trails from the house. House was great for 8 people, great land, nice and quiet too!

Beautiful, private setting. Great mountain views. Nice house.

  • 3 of 5

We really enjoyed our 3 days in this beautiful, private setting. Great mountain views. Beautiful kitchen. Love the log cabin feel. We were a little disappointed that neither of the doors to the outside deck could be used, possibly due to the severe winter. The gas/wood stove could not be used. The TV had no cable or satellite, but Netflix was available. The master bedroom, which was gorgeous, had a squeaky spongy bed, so we slept in a smaller downstairs bedroom. The living room had only 1 chair to sit in. No lawn furniture for the outdoor deck.

With some minor upgrades to these issues, this would be a perfect place to spend time. The owner, Kaija, is very responsive and easy to deal with.

Owner's Response: Hi Paul, thanks for your feedback. I'd like to clarify a few things, since they may be confusing to perspective guests. The living room has a large sectional couch; the great room downstairs has a chair in addition to four benches which can be seen in the photos. There are benches lining the deck outside. The doors to the deck are in working order and are usable, just not in the winter when there is snow on the deck, since it gets stuck in the door jambs. Previous guests have enjoyed the featherbed upstairs and are not usually looking for cable TV when they are visiting the country, which is why I only provide Netflix and Wifi.

Absolutely Gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

This vacation was everything that I expected it to be and more. The house was spacious and the uniqueness of the cabin left my whole party in awe. I would say that in the winter time roads can be harsh especially if you find yourself on an unpaved road so make sure you have all wheel drive on your cars. Nonetheless, the vacation was equally full of adventure and comfort on this beautiful property.

Spectacular- Relaxing- Amazing

  • 4 of 5

Listing description was accurate and the owner provided excellent communications. I would recommend this property, but I would advise a couple of things which are stated below.

We stayed for a week in July and loved it. My husband, myself, our 5 kids and my mother-in-law. There was plenty of room for all. The house is beautiful inside and out. Secluded, but easy to find and get too (we stayed in July not the winter). The internet was not working when we got there so I turned it off, unplugged it and turned it back on--it worked. The Netflix was asking for a password, so I just went online and set up an account in our name to use it (at that time Netflix was offering a free month). Recycling is made easy with all the bins. The recycling place is behind West Burke municipal building, but it is only open on certain days. We used White Market grocery store in Lyndonville which had a lot to offer with reasonable prices, very clean and only about 20- 30 minute drive from the cabin. Center Pond is about 10 minutes away. We took remote control boats and the kids had a blast running them and going for a hike at Center Pond. We went to Fort Jefferson Park in Jefferson NH. It was a huge disappointment. Online it looks great, but it has not been kept up. We ate at the cabin making use of the huge kitchen and table in the dinning room. There was plenty to do inside and outside. The kids loved the tv/game room, playing horseshoes outside and catching the snakes under the huge rocks around the fire pit. We are nature lovers so they did not bother us and they are not poisonous.

There is a curtain window between the two bedrooms downstairs which was fine for us. There are 2 big air mattresses. Upstairs is the master bedroom with jetted bathtub and bathroom. Amazing! To have a little more privacy we used Command hooks which you put on the walls and take off with no damage and hung sheets on them.

If I had little ones I would be cautious with the spiral staircase that goes upstairs and down to the basement. I would try to block it off somehow. One thing I mentioned to the owner that worried us is there are no electric plates covering some of the electric outlets, one of them being the light switch to turn on the power to the jetted bathtub.

I would recommend this cabin to anyone who loves nature, wants a relaxing amazing vacation or wants to create a memorable experience.

We never saw a moose so we will be going back~!
