Perfect location; amazingly helpful owners!!!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely amazing location, we walked to the first tee of the Old Course in minutes. Stunning view of the ocean from living room and bedroom windows. Every imaginable amenity is provided. I cannot say enough about how helpful and accommodating the owner was. She stocked the fridge for our late arrival, finding the very last two frozen pizzas in this college town! Owner helped me find kilt rentals and a professional photographer to realize my dream of a family picture with all my boys in kilts! Owner also arranged our transfer from Leuchars train station with a van large enough for 7 people, luggage & golf clubs. Really just can't say enough positive things about the owner or this house. Do not hesitate, rent this one, you will love it!!

Spectacular apartment in a fabulous location!

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't recommend this apartment any more if I tried. Charles and Mary have thought of everything. From greeting us on arrival through to decanted whisky in the drawing room and smoked salmon in the fridge. Additionally, every item in the beautifully presented (and spacious!) rooms is top quality and spotless - including brilliant bedding and superb showers. We were there for our daughter's graduation and Sandmill was the cherry on the top of our stay in St Andrews; we didn't want to leave!

Thank you Mary and Charles!

Lovely, comfortable, inviting

  • 5 of 5

We have rented homes and apartments all over Europe, and this stands out as one of the best. What sets it apart is the attention to detail, and the feeling of being "at home." The owners are charming and welcoming and have thought of absolutely everything--plenty of fluffy towels (and washcloths), robes, toiletries in case you have forgotten or run out, a fridge full of breakfast items, tea, coffee, biscuits, crisps--even a decanter of single malt whiskey. The rooms are larger and more gracious than they appear in the photos. The floors are connected by wide, graceful staircases.

We were in town for a wedding and had many friends in town as well. The location was simply the best--right off The Scores, and easy walking to everything, including the houses rented by friends. You can sit in the window looking out to sea with your morning coffee each day, enjoying one of the books supplied in the house. It is a relaxing and marvelous place to spend a few days in St. Andrews.

The owners welcomed us, showed us absolutely everything, advised us on the best coffee shop in St. Andrews and told us exactly where to go to get my husband's suit pressed.

One more thing. This house has a washer AND dryer, which is very rare indeed. We loved this property and would love to visit again!

Great Place to Stay Can't go Wrong

  • 5 of 5

A great apartment for a stay in St. Andrews . Well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay. From the utensils in the kitchen needed to cook a meal, to the hotel style bathrobes, and crisp sheets in the bedroom or the shortbreads left for your enjoyment. Easy walk to Old Course carrying a golf bag with the beach at the end of the street. All the shops and restaurants are within a 2 to 10 minute walk.

I paid for the deposit using Western Union online which was less expensive then wiring money. The owners were very nice and accommodating will waiting for us to drive in from our round at Kingsbarn.

I would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to my friends.

Can't say enough good things...

  • 5 of 5

Wow! From the first moment we arrived we felt right at home here. What a warm welcome! From the thoughtful welcome package containing everything you would need for snacks and then breakfast the next day (and a decanter full of delicious whisky), to the amazingly comfortable beds with crisp linens, and the sumptuous, sweet-smelling, fluffy towels and fabulous showers in the bathrooms. This property was so conveniently located - a couple of minutes walk to the Old Course or into town.

We were staying here for our son's graduation from the University and the price of this property was an amazingly good deal compared to the local hotels during graduation week. The house easily sleeps six, with plenty of room for everyone.

We would highly recommend staying here for a golfing holiday or just a relaxing vacation taking in the ambiance of this charming little town.

The owners were lovely people to deal with and made us feel very welcome.

Absolute Gem in St. Andrew's

  • 5 of 5

Sandmill House exceeded our expectations! The location is prime within the adorable town of St. Andrew's. The views are inspiring from every room. The spaciousness of this home is only part of the luxury you will find. It is less like a "condo rental" and more like a 5 Star exclusive holiday home. It is a Victorian row-house and the interior is reflective of the time period of the original construction but completely remodeled to today's highest standards. The kitchen was easy to use--we took advantage on our final two nights when we grew weary of trying to find the "authentic Scottish meal" at restaurants and instead visited the butchers, the bakery, the local produce market and the cheese shop to construct our ideal meal!

Traveling from San Diego, California, we opted to pack light for convenience and were able to wash our clothes in the washer and the dryer. The owner, Mary Boulter, provides laundry detergent as well as dishwasher detergent and dishwashing liquid. She also provides plenty of T.P. and toweling. This is important to note since not all vacation homes provide these essentials. Sandmill House is truly complete. The breakfast and snack groceries she stocks are also welcome and continuing with the obvious theme, "top notch." I discovered a new amazing coffee thanks to Mary--Taylors of Harrogate "Lazy Sunday!" YUM.

We like to travel comfortably and when researching possible vacation rentals I look for key words like, "luxury," immaculate," and "view." These words all describe Sandmill House and I consider myself not only a seasoned traveler but fairly particular. My husband is the hardest of all to please and he was so smitten with this property, he wished he could buy it! He kept saying, "LeAnn, you did good with this one!" We will definitely return--hopefully with friends and family to share this gem in the perfect town in the lovely country of Scotland.

Owner's Response: We so enjoyed welcoming this lovely American family to Sandmill and do hope they will return one day. We find all our visitors so interesting in their different and varied ways and really love getting to know them a little. I do admire those who travel from the other side of the world and arrive, after an enormous amount of travelling, looking so fresh and eager to start their holiday - always so polite and friendly. We have welcomed visitors not only from the British Isles but also from Japan, Canada, America,Germany and Australia, most of whom have become regular once a year visitors, which is marvellous, as they become our friends as well. I am always eager to hear how they find everything and seek to improve things for our visitors - so am grateful for any suggestions and comments. We are fortunate in being situated in St Andrews which is so full of history, character - and of course the University and the golf! All of which is an attraction and provides a lovely base from which to explore Scotland.
