Seaside House Rental Photos and Description

Historic Scout's Cottage.

Immaculate! Fantastic location. Hot tub.

One block to beach. Close to town.

Dead-end street. Quiet. Landscaped backyard.

Unlike any vacation rental you've ever experienced! Large kitchen and living room. Two bedrooms upstairs. Perfect for up to six guests. Three real beds.

We have a strict no smoking/no pets policy.

Historic Scout's Cottage is located on a quiet closed-end street. However, within minutes you an be at the beach (1 block), on the Promenade (1.5 blocks), or fishing and crabbing at the 12th Avenue Bridge overlooking the Necanicum River (1.5 blocks). The Convention Center and Downtown are within walking distance or a 2-4 minute drive.

Scout's Cottage is located next to cozy Historic Birdie's Cottage (VRBO #410151). You can rent both cottages which accommodate up to 9 guests. Our cottages are over 100 years old, with a combination of unique vintage 'souvenir' collections and modern conveniences in every room.

We charge one fee, other than my nightly fee, and that is the housekeeper's fee. This entire fee goes to Barb, who has been with us since day one and who makes sure our home is perfect for each guest. We DON'T have handling (or manager) fees, hot tub fees, washer/dryer fees or additional guests fees.

You will be in complete vacation mode from the minute you park the car!

A wooden gateway entrance, picket fence and landscaped yard welcome you to Scout's Cottage. Walk down the stone steps to begin your relaxing stay at this charming 100+ year old beach cottage. You can hear and smell the fresh sea air, just 1 block away. Your own personal hot tub, patio and lawn chairs, gas BBQ, and beautifully landscaped backyard give you an additional "room" to enjoy both day and night.

The Sun Porch: Open the front door to Scout's Cottage and the first room to welcome you is the sun porch surrounded with large glass windows, shiny hardwood floor, glossy white wood walls, books, sofa, chairs, a wooden doll house, toys, games, umbrellas, and even walking sticks.

The Kitchen: Spacious, sunny and unique. Our guests say this is their dream kitchen! A large glass front cupboard is filled with a wide choice of colorful vintage dinnerware, ranging from 1950s restaurant dishes to 1960s promotional plastic ware. The kitchen's highlight is the stainless steel six burners gas Decor stove. All the expected modern appliances are here, including a microwave, coffeemaker, full-size refrigerator, and dishwasher. There's specially designed shelves that hold our vintage souvenir salt & pepper shakers; on the wall are brightly colored 1950s fruit chalk-ware, Oregon coastal memorabilia, a reclaimed neon sign and a large country table which seats eight.

The Bathroom: Downstairs, spacious with a combination claw foot bathtub/shower combination. All the toweling, shampoo and hand soaps are provided.

The Back Porch: Contains the washer and dryer, and washing supplies. Iron and ironing board. No coin operated machines here.

The Living Room: Large and comfortable. The walls are filled with historic photographs, original artwork and a reclaimed mural. The original dark-wood paneled walls with 9 windows open easily to let in the refreshing ocean air! A large red enamel gas fireplace keeps you warm through any changes in the coastal weather.

We have a fantastic collection of movies to enjoy. We always have 300+ movies at the cottage and curate the collection once a year. We also stock a wide variety of CDs for music fans. There's a library of novels and non-fiction reading, especially books about the Lewis and Clark Expedition along with local authors.

Collector's Bedroom: The bed is queen size with cotton sheets, blankets and quilts to keep you warm. We reclaimed a large painted mural that originally hung above a long-time favorite souvenir shop in downtown Seaside. In the middle of this painted local landscape is the word 'Collectors'. This describes the room perfectly! There are dozens of historic photographs of Oregon shipwrecks, Oregon coastal maps, and local photographs taken of the town and its people over a 100 year period.

One wall is covered with dozens of 1940s vintage wooden plaques. If you've never seen these whimsical images you'll surely enjoy reading what is carved or written on them. Very popular in the early part of the 1900s up to the 1960s, these souvenir plaques were one of the first vacation souvenirs that families would pick up as they traveled in their cars from state to state.

Paradise Bedroom: The other section of the painted mural resides in this pretty room. It has the painted word 'Paradise' on it. We think this word describes this room quite nicely. Homemade quilts are on each of the beds. There is a double size bed and a standard twin size bed in the bedroom. On one wall is a collection of vintage souvenir state plates, on another wall are turn of the century tin-foil artwork known as reverse painting with tinsel and dates back to Victorian time.

We are very proud of Scout's Cottage and are committed to making your stay with us a memorable one.

SEASIDE: 'Enjoy the clear ocean air of one of the world's most beautiful beaches.' NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC. Seaside is THE seashore destination for experiencing popular year-round attractions. And staying at our cottage will complete your perfect vacation or weekend getaway.

About Kay Slusarenko

We are a Portland Architect and a Portland Artist who have owned this special cottage (Scout's Cottage) and a smaller cottage next door (Birdie's Cottage) since 1976. The cottages are over 100 years old. We have loved caring for them and have been especially delighted that our passion for our two cottages extends to our guests' cherished visits to them over the past years.

Kay Slusarenko purchased this house in 1976

Why Kay Slusarenko chose Coastal Oregon

Seaside is perfectly located to give visitors immediate access to a tremendous variety of activities. White sandy clean beaches, whale watching sites, historic cities (Astoria), historic landmark lighthouses, and a nearby Bird Estuary are just a few of the reasons our family is passionate about this coastal paradise.

In 1970, we moved to Portland, Oregon. One of our main reasons for picking Portland was the ability to get to the coast and to the mountains in 1-2 hours.

We often traveled with our children up and down the Oregon Coast, but our favorite coastal town was Seaside.

We all fell in love with the community and the variety of activities that was suited to us individually and collectively as a family.

In 1976, we purchased the cottage which had originally been a part of a popular Drive-In Motor Court. It had served as the manager's home. Unfortunately, a fire ravaged the majority of the motor court's buildings in the mid-50s. Our cottage and a smaller structure survived.

Over the years we have remodeled it and equipped it with our own style of furnishings and collections. And now we proudly share it with you.

Quaint, yet entertaining stay at Seaside cottage!

  • 4 of 5

From the start, Kay (property owner) was cheerful and passionate about her property and the area! She not only shared useful knowledge about the cottage prior to our stay, but went above and beyond by providing information about dining and activities in Seaside and its neighboring towns. We had a minor issue in the house during our stay (out of owner's control) and she resolved it immediately and with grace...the sign of a dedicated and service-oriented owner. You can hear the ocean in the evening, if you're windows or doors are open, which was so peaceful. The towels were soft; the bed was comfortable; the kitchen was very well appointed; the children's toys and activities were lovely and entertaining (not to mention all the pictures, trinkets, books and dvds for adults to peruse); the hot tub was clean and well-maintained; and the proximity to the beach and town were great. This is a quaint, well-appointed cottage, particularly for a long weekend getaway and for those that enjoy historical stays. We had a wonderful time!

Cozy, wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage had everything you could possibly need for a stay away from home! No detail was left out! Very quaint and completely cozy, we enjoyed our stay here immensely!

I can tell you the beds were beyond comfortable and the kitchen had every amenity you could need, the living room hosting both games and movie entertainment was a great option (although we stayed during the Summer Olympics so that consumed any TV time.) Even the small bathroom provided all necessities! Perfect location (residential and quiet) away from the over-populated main street area yet close enough for a short walk to the action!

I think the best part was the nostalgia that the home boasts: I slept so well because I felt like I was at grandma's house! My husband and I would walk from room to room looking at memorabilia from our youth: from plates and bowls to doorknobs and even some outlets, this house was a historic storyboard. Even my daughter felt "at home" here and looked forward to settling in after a day at the beach. It is a small old fashioned cottage which means small rooms and tight doorways, but that made it feel all more nostalgic and cozy for a wonderful beach visit!

Kay and Ron were very attentive and accommodating and provided so much information before our arrival - we were in great hands the entire stay!

Lovely Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Some friends and I stayed at Scout's Cottage for a girls weekend. I am SO happy we decided to stay here. The house was lovely, clean, and full of charming decorations. There is so much detail put into the cottage - we were all extremely impressed. We also used the hot tub and absolutely loved it! The backyard is so cute and we were able to have dinner outside at the picnic table one night. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of extra blankets if anyone needed them. AND the cottage is a very short walk to the beach!

Kay is very organized and is super great to work with! She sent detailed emails before we arrived at the cottage (including information about the cottage, our stay, places to go and see at the coast, etc.) and included more information at the cottage. We had some changes with our party number, and she was very flexible about accommodating us. I would 100% recommend staying here! :)

Owner's Response: What a fantastic summer we are having! Kelli and her dear friends were such a joy to work with and to help prepare their visit to the Oregon Coast. I'm so happy that they all enjoyed their stay. This is what it is all about...Wonderful guests who respect our cottage and my little but extremely dedicated team of three: Ron, my remarkable husband, Barb, my amazing housekeeper and me. People ask me if I get tired of communicating with my guests. The answer is a big resounding NO as I receive joyous phone calls and very appreciative text messages galore from our happy and very relaxed departing guests. What is there not to love about making people happy!

Such a charming cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 2 young daughters (5 and 2) and I traveled to Scout's Cottage for a family vacation on the coast and we were so delighted with our trip, thanks in large part to such a welcoming, cozy home-away-from-home. Staying here is like staying in a museum of fascinating trinkets from days gone by. Like your grandma's house, but better! There is an endless array of souvenirs and knick knacks to explore. Tons of books, a HUGE DVD collection (lots of kids movies, too), toys and books, and so much more. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you'd need (even a milkshake maker!) to prepare snacks and meals. The beds are so comfy and we all slept soundly. The location is perfect for a short stroll to the beach. The WiFi worked perfectly, which was ideal when planning our daily adventures. We loved staying at Scout's and we made such wonderful memories on our vacation. As a huge bonus, Kay is just lovely to work with too!

Owner's Response: Courtney and her family traveled from Colorado this summer to enjoy the Oregon Coast. Courtney's young daughter was the driving force behind the family's decision to make their vacation destination at the beach this year. Her daughter said repeatedly that she wanted to be where the seashells were! I'm delighted that Courtney's daughter's wish won her parents over and that they selected to stay at Seaside, Oregon and at Scout's Cottage. They were such a lovely family to get to know. I was excited about making their first trip to the Ocean a positive one. This is what my main goal is as the owner of two vacation rental homes. I want to know a bit about who my guests are and their reasons for traveling, short and long distances, to the Oregon Coast. Are they a young couple who are looking for the best places to eat up and down the coast or a family of outdoor enthusiasts who love biking or hiking; the question I ask myself is what can I do to make their visit relevant to their time spent at either of our cottages. And to get reviews like Courtney's is one of the best rewards for the work that my husband, my housekeeper and I put into our VRBO vacation homes.

Best Beach House Ever .... 4th of July Weekend!!!

  • 5 of 5

Scout's Cottage is our very favorite home away from home when we want to escape to Seaside. We stayed over the 4th of July weekend for the second year in a row. We loved it so much the first year that we immediately reserved the house again for the following year. I can't say enough about this wonderful home. It feels so homey when you walk through the doors. The decor is adorable - paying homage to the "Pixie Kitchen" ... a restaurant on the Oregon Coast. It seems like we see something new every time we stay. We like that the house in on the "quiet" end of Seaside, but within quick walking distance to the town and only a block to the beach. It sits on a dead-end street which really cuts down on the amount of traffic that runs in front of the house. A very quiet neighborhood. The house is a wonderful two story with the bedrooms upstairs away from the living areas - which made for a nice quiet nap away from the children. VERY comfortable beds, I might add. The house has everything that you need that you didn't want to bring. There are plenty of entertainment options in the living room from cable TV to enough movies to last all summer. The kitchen was fully stocked from a beautiful six-burner gas stove to a dishwasher to all the cute dishes. All we had to bring was the food. There are towels and blankets galore. We loved using one of the two hot tubs in the neatly manicured back yard. Very relaxing. And I really liked the fact that there was a washer and dryer as well - we stayed long enough that we made use of the laundry room. There are NO negatives to this house. I know we will return at some point as this house feels like home to us. Kay was a joy to work with and everything ran so smoothly which just adds to the enjoyment of staying here. If you have the chance to stay in this house I would highly recommend it. I can't imagine that you could find a better, more enjoyable home than this one.

Owner's Response: Stephanie and her family, and guests like her, are why we work so hard to make our vacation beach home the best it can be. She and her lovely family appreciate EVERYTHING that makes our cottage special and unique! Stephanie's review points out the things that we took extra time and attention to place in the cottage. The History of the Oregon Coast is so important to my family and to show some of this fun and funny side of the Oregon Experience is the driving force behind how we decorated our interiors. Each painting, each framed photo and souvenirs speak to the importance of the past. But equally important is to provide contemporary conveniences for our guests, from the hot tub to the kitchen's high-end appliances; a gas decor stove for instance. Stephanie was such a great guest last year and when she reserved the 4th of July again this year, I couldn't have been more delighted. I so appreciate every word she has taken the time to write in her review.

Owner's Response: Melissa and her husband took very good care of our home during their stay. In her messages to me, Melissa praised my housekeeper, Barb, and rightfully so! Barb has been with us from day one and has continued to be passionate about our two vacation rental homes and our guests. She takes tremendous pride in preparing our homes to the highest standards for each guest who stays at Scout's Cottage or our smaller cottage, Birdie's Cottage, next door to Scout's. Here's what Melissa wrote in her last message to me, "Barb is wonderful, you are lucky to have her. She has the best personality and energy. She was truly a joy to meet. We enjoyed the cottage and our stay on the coast. Thank you again for sharing it with us. Melissa and family"
