Seaside House Rental Photos and Description

Entire house. Sleeps 5-Sofa-bed+3 'real beds'. Landscaped yard. Hot Tub. Best!

Historic Scout's Cottage. The entire beach home is yours!

A century-old unique 1,065 sq. ft. Historic Cottage.

2 stories tall. One of a kind collections, original artwork and souvenirs in every room.

Immaculate! Fantastic location. Hot tub.

One block to beach. Close to Estuary. Close to town.

Dead-end street. Quiet. Landscaped front and backyard.

We have a strict no smoking/no pets policy.

Unlike any vacation rental you've ever experienced! Large kitchen and comfortable living room. A sunny sun porch. A back porch with washer/dryer. Bathroom with claw-foot bathtub. Two special bedrooms upstairs. Perfect for up to five guests. Three real beds. There is also a queen size sofa-sleeper in the living room.

Historic Scout's Cottage is located on a quiet closed-end street. However, within minutes you can be at the beach (1 block), on the Promenade (1.5 blocks), or fishing and crabbing at the 12th Avenue Bridge overlooking the Necanicum River (1.5 blocks). The Convention Center and Downtown are within walking distance or a 2-4 minute drive.

Scout's Cottage is located next to cozy Historic Birdie's Cottage (VRBO #410151). You can rent both cottages which accommodate up to 8 guests. Our cottages are over 100 years old, with a combination of unique vintage 'souvenir' collections and modern conveniences in every room.

Fully landscaped backyard give you an additional "room" to enjoy both day and night.

The Sun Porch: Open the front door to Scout's Cottage and the first room to welcome you is the sun porch surrounded with large glass windows, shiny hardwood floor, glossy white wood walls, books, sofa, chairs, a wooden doll house, toys, games, umbrellas, and even walking sticks.

The Kitchen: Spacious, sunny and unique. Our guests say this is their dream kitchen! A large glass front cupboard is filled with a wide choice of colorful vintage dinnerware, ranging from 1950s restaurant dishes to 1960s promotional plastic ware. The kitchen's highlight is the stainless steel six burners gas Decor stove. All the expected modern appliances are here, including a microwave, coffeemaker, full-size refrigerator, and dishwasher. There's specially designed shelves that hold our vintage souvenir salt & pepper shakers; on the wall are brightly colored 1950s fruit chalk-ware, Oregon coastal memorabilia, a reclaimed neon sign and a large country table which seats eight.

The Bathroom: Downstairs, spacious with a combination claw foot bathtub/shower combination. All the toweling, shampoo and hand soaps are provided.

The Back Porch: Contains the washer and dryer, and washing supplies. Iron and ironing board. No coin operated machines here.

The Living Room: Large and comfortable. The walls are filled with historic photographs, original artwork and a reclaimed mural. The original dark-wood paneled walls with 9 windows open easily to let in the refreshing ocean air! A large red enamel gas fireplace keeps you warm through any changes in the coastal weather.

We have a fantastic collection of movies to enjoy. We always have 400+ movies at the cottage and curate the collection once a year. We also stock a wide variety of CDs for music fans. There's a library of novels and non-fiction reading, especially books about the Lewis and Clark Expedition along with local authors.

Collector's Bedroom: The bed is queen size with cotton sheets, blankets and quilts to keep you warm. We reclaimed a large painted mural that originally hung above a long-time favorite souvenir shop in downtown Seaside. In the middle of this painted local landscape is the word 'Collectors'. This describes the room perfectly! There are dozens of historic photographs of Oregon shipwrecks, Oregon coastal maps, and local photographs taken of the town and its people over a 100 year period.

One wall is covered with dozens of 1940s vintage wooden plaques. If you've never seen these whimsical images you'll surely enjoy reading what is carved or written on them. Very popular in the early part of the 1900s up to the 1960s, these souvenir plaques were one of the first vacation souvenirs that families would pick up as they traveled in their cars from state to state.

Paradise Bedroom: The other section of the painted mural resides in this pretty room. It has the painted word 'Paradise' on it. We think this word describes this room quite nicely. Homemade quilts are on each of the beds. There is a double size bed and a standard twin size bed in the bedroom. On one wall is a collection of vintage souvenir state plates, on another wall are turn of the century tin-foil artwork known as reverse painting with tinsel and dates back to Victorian time.

We are very proud of Scout's Cottage and are committed to making your stay with us a memorable one.

SEASIDE: 'Enjoy the clear ocean air of one of the world's most beautiful beaches.' NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC. Seaside is THE seashore destination for experiencing popular year-round attractions. And staying at our cottage will complete your perfect vacation or weekend getaway.

About Kay Slusarenko

We are a Portland Architect and a Portland Artist who have owned this special cottage (Scout's Cottage) and a smaller cottage next door (Birdie's Cottage) since 1976. The cottages are over 100 years old. We have loved caring for them and have been especially delighted that our passion for our two cottages extends to our guests' cherished visits to them over the past years.

Kay Slusarenko purchased this house in 1976

Why Kay Slusarenko chose Coastal Oregon

Seaside is perfectly located to give visitors immediate access to a tremendous variety of activities. White sandy clean beaches, whale watching sites, historic cities (Astoria), historic landmark lighthouses, and a nearby Bird Estuary are just a few of the reasons our family is passionate about this coastal paradise.

In 1970, we moved to Portland, Oregon. One of our main reasons for picking Portland was the ability to get to the coast and to the mountains in 1-2 hours.

We often traveled with our children up and down the Oregon Coast, but our favorite coastal town was Seaside.

We all fell in love with the community and the variety of activities that was suited to us individually and collectively as a family.

In 1976, we purchased the cottage which had originally been a part of a popular Drive-In Motor Court. It had served as the manager's home. Unfortunately, a fire ravaged the majority of the motor court's buildings in the mid-50s. Our cottage and a smaller structure survived.

Over the years we have remodeled it and equipped it with our own style of furnishings and collections. And now we proudly share it with you.

Sisters get away at cozy cabin on Oregon coast.

  • 5 of 5

Each year 3 sisters come from 3 cities to spend time on the Oregon coast. This year we rented the "HIstoric Scout's Cottage. It truly felt like a home away from home. We loved all the vintage items in the house plus the availability of just about everything we needed that our considerate hosts had provided. The house provided places for games and the preparing of meals together as well as plenty of space to get away on your own. The beds were very comfortable and we all loved the chenille spread and quilts. Reading lamps are very important and we all had one. It was exactly as described only better. Thank you so much.

Sweet, charming cottage just a short walk from the beach!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three had a wonderful stay at Scout's cottage. We love to cook so appreciated the well stocked and very roomy kitchen! We cozied up each night on the couch to read or watch one of the hundreds of movies. It was a delightful stay made extra wonderful by the excellent communication from our host, Kay! We look forward to returning next year!

Owner's Response: Thank you "Luckypie"! We love hosting fall and winter guests because Scout's Cottage is equipped to take care of our guests' cooler weather needs. Having a large kitchen to cook in, an outdoor hot tub ready to use at any time, lots of entertainment options and comfy beds make watching winter storms at the coast a real treat! Kay

The property is adorable, very welcoming and homey & decorated so cute!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Scouts cottage, we loved the decor & wished we had more time to look at everything! We really enjoyed the hot tub while we were there, and playing trivial pursuit on the kitchen table. The bed was super comfortable, and we slept great while we were there.

The cottage was very cute and exactly as advertised.

  • 5 of 5

The house was very well kept and was in a quiet neighborhood. The beds were very comfortable. I loved drinking my coffee in the sun room and watching the storm blow in.

Owner's Response: Andrea, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. It is very appreciated. The Fall season is a perfect time to visit our beautiful Pacific Ocean coast. Last week I watched dozens of locals and visitors throw crab baskets and traps over the edge of the 12th Avenue Bridge (2 blocks from the cottage) and then retrieve them to see if they had any of those tasty creatures in the bottom of their containers. And many of them did ! And their reward were lovely crab salads and other favorite recipes for that evening's dinner! The smells of the ocean, the changing weather and the way everything starts to slow down and move slower at the coast is the best feeling. Add to that a charming cottage, a good book and a hot beverage while sitting in the sun room and that is why so many of our guests make yearly Fall visits.

Quaint, yet entertaining stay at Seaside cottage!

  • 4 of 5

From the start, Kay (property owner) was cheerful and passionate about her property and the area! She not only shared useful knowledge about the cottage prior to our stay, but went above and beyond by providing information about dining and activities in Seaside and its neighboring towns. We had a minor issue in the house during our stay (out of owner's control) and she resolved it immediately and with grace...the sign of a dedicated and service-oriented owner. You can hear the ocean in the evening, if you're windows or doors are open, which was so peaceful. The towels were soft; the bed was comfortable; the kitchen was very well appointed; the children's toys and activities were lovely and entertaining (not to mention all the pictures, trinkets, books and dvds for adults to peruse); the hot tub was clean and well-maintained; and the proximity to the beach and town were great. This is a quaint, well-appointed cottage, particularly for a long weekend getaway and for those that enjoy historical stays. We had a wonderful time!

Car: not necessary

Scout's Cottage is in an ideal location. Located on a dead-end street, our neighborhood is serene even in the busy summer months! Walk ONE BLOCK and you will arrive at a lovely secluded section of the beach with an amazing view of the ocean. Walk along the North beach just a bit longer and you'll be at the Necanicum Estuary, home to all sorts of birds and creatures small, such as the soft shelled clam and big, such as the herd of elk that often roam in the grass.

Our cottage's wonderful location is less than two blocks to the famous Seaside Promenade. This broad sidewalk leads you directly along the oceanfront into downtown Seaside. It is a lovely walk at all times of the day. But if you choose to ride a two, three or four wheeled vehicles then you need only walk 1 minute (0.3 mi) from the cottage's front door to the Prom Rental Bike Shop. This family-owned business is one of Oregon's oldest bike shops. There's a huge assortment of beach and street fun vehicles for both adults and kids (infants on up). Their website is: www.prombikeshop.com/rentals.
