About Mike Lasko

As an early retired police officer, active building contractor, recreational and commercial diver, fisherman, and general all around outdoorsman who has spent most of his life on the West Coast of B.C. I can tell you that this location is one of the most beautiful, accessible and not commercialized areas around which is why we love it and enjoy sharing it with others. The ongoing property transformation from a tiny shack in the bush to a seaside family retreat is a reflection of the love of the area and the feelings we have about family and friends bonding and enjoying the precious recreational time that we all seem to have too little of. We suspect you will agree with our family and leave happier and a little closer too. That is our desire and goal.

Why Mike Lasko chose Sunshine Coast

It is private, quaint and a unique piece of the West Coast which offers the wholesome experiences one craves with the conveniences of the modern world.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Alll activities are at your door step, a short walk or drive. We basically have everything for your family except what the city imposes on you. A healthy outdoor experience in a safe and comfortable environment.

Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I were looking to get away during Canada Day long weekend somewhere along the sunshine coast. Unfortunately many places were booked up.. luckily I found this listing. I was a little apprehensive to book at first because we had to etransfer the money, but after speaking with Mike he put my mind at ease. He was so easy to get a hold of, would speak to me any time I had any questions via email or by phone. He was always friendly and helpful and gave me all the information I needed to know about the area. The property itself exceeded my expectations. It fit 8 of us adults comfortably with room to spare. We cooked the entire weekend and he had all the kitchenware we needed. There is also a bbq with propane provided. The fire pit by the water was also great to use. The living room looks right out over the water through sliding glass doors. There are two bathrooms, one located conveniently inside, the other bathroom is connected to the property but entry is right outside and is very nicely renovated (overhead rain shower plus handheld shower head). The only thing to keep in mind on your way there is that the road is very windy with sharp turns so if you get motion sick easily (like I did) take some gravol beforehand. I regretfully didn't....

The town itself is small. The people there were very friendly and lovely down by the bathgates resort as well as up in Madeira Park (which is not actually a park, but a town; we learned this the hard way). Sookumchuk trail had a very modern/hipster bakeshop right before the hike. We preordered cinnamon buns there that were the size of my face. There is also another hike (Francis Point Park) that was a beautiful trail. Beautiful views the entire way. Apparently there is a coffee shop at the end of it, however we didnt make it to the end because it began to rain.

Anyway, there's a lot more I can say about the area but the important thing is that our stay was wonderful. This property is highly recommended!

Great place in a beautiful spot

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I have stayed in this fantastic spot. House is well stocked with everything you need. Very clean, lots of parking - an overall amazing spot. Great deck for bbq and watching the marine traffic go by and that awesome fire pit on the point is a great place to wind the day down by the fire. Looking forward to staying again. Mike is very prompt with questions and security deposit return.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd time staying at this property and it was perfect. The kids enjoyed catching shiners and rock cods right of the private dock. Mike was very helpful and informative throughout. He even went out of his way to get us fire woods for the fire pit. Will definitely return again in the near future!

Great location, beautiful house, fun times had by all

  • 4 of 5

I booked this property for my 30th birthday weekend for 10 of us. Mike was extremely helpful and prompt with replies to all my questions. I even had a friend surprise me by showing up the night after we all arrived, and since she couldn't get in touch with anyone else in the group (no cell reception) she called Mike directly and he was very gracious and helpful, even though it was late when she called (thanks Mike!)

You couldn't have asked for more beautiful views and the open concept main floor layout was perfect for our group- not that we spent much time inside! We spend most of our time on the water, at the fire pit, hanging out on the deck, playing badminton and frisbee in the front yard, and hanging out at Skookemchuk Narrows. Not only was the kitchen well-stocked but so were the games and activities so there was no danger of boredom. Close proximity to the pub, general store and the Skookemchuk trail. Be sure to bring your own music as there is no cell reception to stream music and limited wifi.

The only downside for a group our size is that there was not a lot of privacy (no door on master bedroom or sleeping loft but there are 2 other private bedrooms) and only one bathroom...but not a big deal if you like your guests :)

Would definitely recommend staying here to others and we hope to return soon; that is unless we buy our own place on the Sunshine Coast first, as we all fell in love with it!!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed yourselves Christine. No door on the master bedroom is a tradeoff with a loft style bedroom with a view for sure, as is the second bathroom with outside access only so kids, swimmers, scuba divers etc don't have to go through the house to use the washroom. Unfortunately the layout would not allow inside access to the second bathroom. I am glad to hear it all worked out. Hope to see you again.

Perfect Secluded Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our group was immediately impressed by the layout of the property - right on the water with a spectacular view. There was plenty of room outside to throw the ball around and play badminton, and the dock was great for casting a rod or two anytime. On top of those features, the front deck provided plenty of room for a large group to congregate, as did the awesome fire pit.

Perhaps the best part of the place was how incredibly well stocked everything was. For our group of 10, there was never a concern of running out of plates, glasses, cookware, towels, etc...

Although we loved that there was no cell coverage, the local pub (5-10 minute walk) provided free wifi, so we were never in danger of feeling too isolated. There is also a general store down the road (2 minute drive) that provides all the essentials.

I would highly recommend this location to any group looking to get away from it all and relax. I, and I'm sure others from our group, will most certainly be back again someday.

Owner's Response: Thanks James, it was great having you and your gang and thanks for caring for the place. You are always welcome! You guys were crazy for jumping off the dock already.....2 days in a row and I heard about it from the local commercial prawn fishermen. Lol, they thought it was a hoot, it gave them a good laugh after a day out on the water. Tough life huh....

Fishing Weekend with the kids!

  • 4 of 5

The listing was exactly how we found it. Pictures and amenities are accurate. The owner, who I was in contact with before the stay and once during the stay, was always helpful.

I would recommend this property to adults who are looking for a fun fishing trip or families with children that want to enjoy an outdoor experience without camping. We fished everyday! The kids would fish right off the dock for shiners and for us grown ups we rented a boat from the very nearby Bathgate Marina. Every night we gathered around the fire pit. The kids loved roasting marshmallows and star gazing!

We also walked to Skookumchuk Rapids (an hour each way...take a bottle of water!) this was very cool.

Be aware that there is no wifi or cell signal. We knew this in advance and were comfortable with it, but if you are a person who cannot function without your cell....well....maybe then it's not for you. This was certainly a "get away from it all" kind of trip.

Owner's Response: Thank you and we are glad you enjoyed yourselves. Having no wifi or cell service may be a blessing for many as you and especially kids, get a break from it and can focus on relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. Having said that, wifi is a minute down the road and the cell tower is 10 minutes away.
