As an early retired police officer, active building contractor, recreational and commercial diver, fisherman, and general all around outdoorsman who has spent most of his life on the West Coast of B.C. I can tell you that this location is one of the most beautiful, accessible and not commercialized areas around which is why we love it and enjoy sharing it with others. The ongoing property transformation from a tiny shack in the bush to a seaside family retreat is a reflection of the love of the area and the feelings we have about family and friends bonding and enjoying the precious recreational time that we all seem to have too little of. We suspect you will agree with our family and leave happier and a little closer too. That is our desire and goal.
It is private, quaint and a unique piece of the West Coast which offers the wholesome experiences one craves with the conveniences of the modern world.
Alll activities are at your door step, a short walk or drive. We basically have everything for your family except what the city imposes on you. A healthy outdoor experience in a safe and comfortable environment.
We stayed here and used it as a base for a couple days while surfing Skook. It was great to come back to this well appointed cabin at the end of the day during our off season trip. The dock was very convenient and and permitted us to avoid the shuttle to the public dock. Mike was always very prompt to respond to questions and the property is very well kept. Will definitely be back!
We stayed for 2 nights at this fabulous cabin. Mike was extremely accommodating, I called him numerous times before and during our stay for some questions on the facilities and fishing, he was extremely patient and friendly when we spoke. We traveled with 8 (7 adults and a 2 yr old), the cabin was spacious and the property was quiet and private. We saw some seals and sea lions while fishing on the private docks and we had BBQ on the porch, it was very relaxing! This is our first time to Egmont and Mike have definitely made it worth while! Thanks Mike! :)
We spent 11 days at this perfectly equipped cottage/cabin. It was a family celebration. The two boys aged 15 and 12 absolutely loved having their own space in the loft. The three other bedrooms were perfect for the three couples and the beds were extremely comfortable with nice bedding. The kitchen was super well equipped especially for my son and daughter who enjoyed cooking some gourmet meals. Eating out on the deck most nights was a treat with the beautiful view. The internet worked really well for us. There is no cell coverage but there is a landline that you could use to call across Canada. The fire pit for campfires was big with lots of seating and lots of nice dry wood was provided .We enjoyed some great evenings with guitar and ukulele playing and lots of singing. My son and grandson love to dive so Mike was very knowledgeable about diving spots. We swam, fished, boated, hiked etc. We saw lots of seals and eagles and we were lucky enough to see whales too.
Mike was the most accommodating manager who would call or email us almost instantly if we had questions. He was a wealth of information about the area. His pleasantness really made our vacation more enjoyable.
The blackberries were plentiful along the road so many of our desserts couldn't have been any fresher. The convenience store was just a short walk away and we felt the prices were very good. We were able to walk to the trailhead to hike the narrows. We also swam in a couple of the freshwater lakes which were great. It's a wonderful area to explore and we couldn't have asked for anything better for a family get together.
Thanks Mike!! We highly recommend a vacation here.
We just spent 4 days in this home and we were very happy. Mike was excellent to work with. He gets back to you quickly and was patient with me when work distracted me from getting him some paperwork. It was one of the most enjoyable holidays we've had in a long time.
Things to know.
-The home isn't overly large but has 3 distinct bedrooms as well as a big loft. 2 of the bedrooms are smallish but quite functional. The 3rd bedroom is quite large. It is an open loft on top of some steep stairs. There is also a loft at the top of a removable ladder that is perfect for kids old enough to climb a 10 foot ladder. Our youngest was 8 and it took her a couple minutes to get over her fear. I think the kids liked the idea of having their own private room where adults were not likely to visit.
-The kitchen is big and wide open. It had everything that we needed.
-The outside area is really large and the kids fished off the dock for hours. You can see the fish come right up to your hook. (Not a good location for crabs and we had no luck off the dock.)
-There is no garbage service and you need to take garbage with you. Mike has some suggestions on where to take it.
-There are a few smaller stores but you will want to bring groceries from home or on your way through Sechelt.
-It is a great location to hike to the Skookumchuk Narrows. My wife and I ran to Skookumchuk Narrows directly from the house. It was almost exactly 1 hour round trip and we are In mediocre shape. You can consider driving to the trail head as opposed to starting right at the house.
-If you can arrange a trip to Princess Louisa Inlet it is well worth it.
-There is no cell coverage and the wifi coverage is inconsistent. It seemed like the wifi worked ok when only 1 device was connected and it was a time of day when neighbours might not be using the same bandwidth. You will be happiest if you just put away the devices although I know it's easier said then done. They have a home phone and it works well. Just remember you won't be able to call anyone from your party in the Egmont area on their cell phone even if you use the home phone.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone unless you absolutely need to be connected to the Internet for work.
My friends and I were looking to get away during Canada Day long weekend somewhere along the sunshine coast. Unfortunately many places were booked up.. luckily I found this listing. I was a little apprehensive to book at first because we had to etransfer the money, but after speaking with Mike he put my mind at ease. He was so easy to get a hold of, would speak to me any time I had any questions via email or by phone. He was always friendly and helpful and gave me all the information I needed to know about the area. The property itself exceeded my expectations. It fit 8 of us adults comfortably with room to spare. We cooked the entire weekend and he had all the kitchenware we needed. There is also a bbq with propane provided. The fire pit by the water was also great to use. The living room looks right out over the water through sliding glass doors. There are two bathrooms, one located conveniently inside, the other bathroom is connected to the property but entry is right outside and is very nicely renovated (overhead rain shower plus handheld shower head). The only thing to keep in mind on your way there is that the road is very windy with sharp turns so if you get motion sick easily (like I did) take some gravol beforehand. I regretfully didn't....
The town itself is small. The people there were very friendly and lovely down by the bathgates resort as well as up in Madeira Park (which is not actually a park, but a town; we learned this the hard way). Sookumchuk trail had a very modern/hipster bakeshop right before the hike. We preordered cinnamon buns there that were the size of my face. There is also another hike (Francis Point Park) that was a beautiful trail. Beautiful views the entire way. Apparently there is a coffee shop at the end of it, however we didnt make it to the end because it began to rain.
Anyway, there's a lot more I can say about the area but the important thing is that our stay was wonderful. This property is highly recommended!
This is the second time I have stayed in this fantastic spot. House is well stocked with everything you need. Very clean, lots of parking - an overall amazing spot. Great deck for bbq and watching the marine traffic go by and that awesome fire pit on the point is a great place to wind the day down by the fire. Looking forward to staying again. Mike is very prompt with questions and security deposit return.
