|Minimum Stay||3 - 5 nights|
Large (3,000 sqft) home which backs onto the Tahoe Donner ski hill. Forget packing the car and gearing up at the ski slope, simply change at home, go out the back door, strap your on skiis and and within 2 minutes you can be on the ski slope. The ski area is very small but is a great place for beginners and when lift lines at the bigger resorts are 30+ minutes the longest lines at Tahoe Donner tend to be about 2 to 5 minutes.
This home is at just over 7,000 feet in elevation and is not one of the 'lower' Tahoe Donner homes. There are few trees around it and this enables the expansive views. In addition, sometimes on clear nights we lie down on the back deck for awesome views of the night sky.
Tahoe Donner is a year-round resort located in the historic town of Truckee, California. In addition to being able access the Tahoe Donner ski area from the backyard, there are many recreational opportunities of the Lake Tahoe region.
Tahoe Donner is the perfect place for family vacations all year round. The Tahoe Donner Association provides downhill and cross country skiing, golf, hiking, tennis, an equestrian center, a fitness center complete with fitness classes and an adult lap pool, massage, hot tubs, and two pool areas with play areas for the children. There is even a private beach and marina on Donner Lake where you can rent paddle boards, kayaks, and sail boats. All Tahoe Donner amenities can be accessed with provided guest passes and $8/person/day usage fee (children under 7 are free). Be sure to visit the Tahoe Donner clubhouse, as the Association holds special events for families every week in the summer like Bingo, beach parties, archery, and outdoor Movie Fridays during the warmer months.
Walk just a quarter mile up the street while treating yourself to the amazing views from Skislope Way and you will arrive at Tahoe Donner's 35 miles of hiking trails. The extensive network of trails provides fantastic views and a great cardio workout.
Golfers be sure to check out the Tahoe Donner golf course--the highest elevation course in Tahoe, known for having the best greens in the region.
Within Tahoe Donner you will find The Pub, The Lodge, and Pizza on the Hill. In Truckee, you will find amazing dining and shopping in a historic setting.
Located on the ground floor of our mountain home is our 'dorm' room with three bunkbeds and a game room with foosball and a large-screen TV. There is also a separate washer and a dryer. On the main floor are three bedrooms--one eastern king, one queen and one with two twin beds. There is a wide open, family style great room with open kitchen and dining area. The great room opens to the back deck perfect for BBQing, relaxing, and eating. Upstairs is a loft with a trundle bed and a computer desk. The home also is equipped with Wi-Fi.
Please note this house is at about 7,000 feet in elevation. If it snows you will need to have AWD or 4WD to get to it and (as with many of the homes at the higher elevations in Tahoe Donner) during snowstorms it is possible for the road and/or driveway to become temporarily impassible until they are cleared.

We are a family with four younger children, all of whom learned to ski at Tahoe Donner. By their 3rd day of skiing they (the youngest of whom was then 6 years old) were able to make it back to the cabin on skis.
The Owner purchased this house in 2010
We chose the Tahoe area because we love the clean mountain air and the amazing sky views (on clear nights you can see our arm of the Milky Way Galaxy stretching across the sky!)
We chose Tahoe Donner because it is a year-round resort with activities such as skiing, cross country skiing, camping, fishing, horseback riding, watersports, hiking, and more close by with good access to a decent-sized city (Truckee), a large city (Reno) and numerous ski resorts (Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, Sugar Bowl, Northstar, Squaw Valley, and Alpine Meadows,)
We chose this cabin because of the spectacular views and the ability to ski out the back porch down to the Tahoe Donner Ski Hill!
Tahoe Donner offers a wealth of year-round activities but what really sealed the deal for us was being able to have our kids ski off in the morning while we lounge around the house. With walkie talkies we can communicate with them pretty much wherever they are on the ski hill.
We also love the panoramic views which extend from the Carson Range to Northstar.
Overall the house was perfect. Close to town, close to ski hill, very well stocked. Perfect for a relaxing time with family. 1 and only drawback was not being able to sleep in due to light curtains in almost all bedrooms. As soon as that sun was out we were wide awake. But all in all perfect home for vacation
The house was perfect...beautiful views, lots of space and everything you need to make a nice dinner and relax. I especially loved the jacuzzi bathtub and having a large game room next to the children's room. The children loved sleeping downstairs in the bunk beds and getting up to play foosball :) We didn't ski in and out of Donner but we could have. This is a wonderful house for a family or more than one family.
The house has plenty of space, and it is very quiet . . . both in terms of the neighbors as well as not hearing the other people in the house when in bedrooms. Good kitchen, appliances work well, bathrooms are clean and updated. Omar is very good at providing through details to help you enjoy your stay and ensure no question goes unanswered. The house stays quite warm. It was a perfect family getaway. Keep in mind that returning on skis requires using a more advanced green run (probably should be blue), so beginners may need to be driven back.
Christmas-2016: Tons of snow (thanks to El Nino), ski-in/ski-out access is great for lunchtime breaks and independent start/stop times without having to drive somewhere. Tahoe-Donner is small, but very reasonable lift tickets compared to Apline Meadows, Squaw, etc. Very large open area for non-skiers - kids made an igloo! House was clean and well maintained; listing was accurate. Fireplace insert creates a lot of heat with comfy couch for movies. Well equipped kitchen (labels for finding things quickly), snow sleds in the garage, large tables for seating everyone at the same time. Top loft gets hot because heat from living room rises and accumulates in higher areas. Master bedroom & bath are luxurious. Two car garage is deep, easily accommodates 2 full sized trucks. Truckee is close by with Tahoe Dave's for rentals, great main street and an old-school ACE hardware store that has everything! Owner has great communication with rentee - prompt and courteous.
Back story...we live in San Francisco and have 4 children who range in age from 2 to 11 and from ski ability from none to advanced. If you know the mountain you know its great for kids. I was able to spend the better part of the day with my 6 year old and the mountain is small enough that was able to locate my 8 and 11 year olds who were skiing on their own every 10 minutes or so. If you're an expert the mountain may become boring. No worry. It's close to Alpine and Squaw and there's no way you'll get a better setup there than you will have here.
The house is beautiful. Literally on the mountain near the top. My kids were able to navigate the ski in/out functionality easily. Instead of lunch in the lodge we had lunch in the kitchen. For this purpose it was perfect. Dare I say we saved money this way? The house is very nicely appointed. Very big. Very good layout. All the furnishings were modern and the kitchen was fully stocked with anything we needed to cook, etc. Honestly the only surprise was how big it was. The bunk room in the basement alone would comfortably sleep 10 kids. This house is wonderful. Dealing with the owner to get in and out was wonderful. Like most things in life you get what you pay for and in this scenario we were not let down. We will definitely rent this home agin.
If you stay here and it snows you will need 4WD to get up the road and definitely to get up the driveway. We had a base layer of snow already here and it snowed while we stayed. We have a 4wd Yukon and getting up the drive was no issue.
The best part of the whole deal were the sweeping views of Donner Pass and Northstar from the Kitchen. Oh no wait it was the sweeping views of the Northern Sierras from the living room. This place is incredible.
Our Christmas holiday was pretty much perfect at this fabulous home. Tahoe Donner has many amenities and when we felt like going out there were many options close by. The ski slope is not far from the back door. The house has a great movie and book library. Views from the house were spectacular!
