About Kim Hunter
I grew up in northwestern Illinois, worked in the fishing/shipping industry in Alaska and then moved to Seattle area almost 40 years ago. I owned a European style restaurant and catering company for 12 years and transitioned to mortgage and real estate business in 2000. I have always loved the hospitality industry so this BNB is a perfect fit. I am married to a realtor and we have two young adult children. I have a passion for fine food and wine and love reading and hiking.
Kim Hunter purchased this Apartment in 2010
Why Kim Hunter chose Puyallup
We chose this property because of the separate apartment which my mother lived in for 5 years before moving to assisted living. We love the neighborhood for its amazing views of the Puyallup/Sumner valley and across to the downtown and Port of Tacoma. Also of special interest is the large, peaceful, wooded lot and greenbelt behind us that hosts deer and the occasional coyote.
What makes this Apartment unique
We fell in love with this property because of its peaceful nature and orientation toward the most spectacular views in the neighborhood. Sometimes when the fog is in the valley it reminds me of Shangri-La. It is a spectacular house for entertaining with many separate indoor areas, 3 decks and a patio.

Perfect place to stay for our trip to the Tacoma area!
This was our first time using VRBO in the US, and it was a great experience!
Kim was so friendly from way back when we made our reservation, and continued so while we were there. Her apartment had everything we needed, and much more! We were in town for a graduation nearby, and the location and neighborhood was just perfect. We could watch rabbits, deer, and even a coyote in the garden!
Everything was clean and the kitchen was well-stocked. The bathroom had pretty much any toiletries one could need - we could have arrived without any toiletries, and everything we might need was there.
A great experience indeed. If we're ever in that area again, I'd definitely stay with Kim!
Great to host Mary and her family. They were so enthusiastic about our apartment and meeting our dog Cecil. Everything was left clean and neat. Hope to see them back sometime.
nice quiet spot!
I stayed here with two friends while we attended a workshop for a week. It is a lovely location in a quiet neighborhood. We were there in May and the flowers were beautiful when we walked around.
It was a bit challenging for three unrelated people as there was really only one bed and private room. Maybe I didn't read the description clearly but one person slept on the floor in a narrow hall on futons and one person slept on the couch. The couch was a pull out but there was something about having to blow up a mattress which I'm guessing would have had to be done every night if we folded the couch back up. There really wasn't much floor space with a large coffee table so I don't know how we would have gotten around if we'd left the couch open all the time. We were too tired at night to deal with it so the one person slept on it as a couch.
That is the only "complaint". If it was a family with kids, it would have been more reasonable for three or more people.
Kitchen equipment was perfect for making breakfasts (all we did there). Clean, quiet (really important for us!), private (back of house entrance), easy to find.
The sleeping arrangements were discussed with the guest ahead of time as there are not 3 distinct sleeping spaces for adults. The sofa bed is very comfortable when inflated and the coffee table is easy to remove as it comes apart and can be put into the hall closet. The floor futons are really only suitable for kids or maybe teenagers. I am generally here to help with these arrangements but was out of town when these guests arrived. All the instructions for inflating the mattress are in the book that I provide and it only takes about 30 seconds to blow up.
Beautiful property & comfortable home
The location was perfect (we had an event at the Puyallup fairgrounds). Kim was a gracious hostess. The neighborhood felt very safe and was a nice place to walk. I hope she will have us again if we return next year!
Excellent experience. Kim was thoughtful, helpful and take accommodating.
The suite was really well equipped and super comfortable.
Very cosy stay
We stayed for 3 nights (were in the area for a graduation) and really enjoyed all the thoughtful touches that made this very much home-from-home. Much appreciated the very well stocked pantry so that we were able to make our own breakfast without running out to buy groceries. Neighbourhood is very quiet and we were lucky to spot some rabbits/deer on the grounds. The apartment is right below the owners, so there can be a little noise from voices/the dog but nothing excessive. Would stay again - lovely place!
Suburban Stay Falls Short
I want to start to say that the owner is very nice and the VRBO here is clean, but it is not what we expected. We really just needed a quiet place to sleep and shower, as we were visiting family in the area. The apartment area is directly under the owner's living space and unfortunately not nearly as quiet as we hoped for. Here are a few examples: you can hear people talking above you anytime that they are on the main floor, at 6am it sounded like heavy boots stomping overhead, the dog was barking late at night, you are directly below the kitchen and the ice machine seems like it is in your room, and there is what sounds like a VERY squeaky screen door as well. Needless to say it was not very quiet.
Also, we were charged an extra $60 for our two children to stay with us for the 3 nights. We stay at a lot of VRBO's and this has never happened before (especially when the unit says that it sleeps 4). In addition to this, the couch air mattress was broken and the futons that were provided are not really futons but fold out cushions for the floor. There was also a leak in the ceiling in the bathroom on the last night. We understand that things happen but overall, I would not stay here again.
We try very hard to provide a clean and pleasant environment for our guests. As a family we do try to be respectful of our guests and typically will move upstairs by 10 pm. In this case, there was a series of things that happened that added up to an unpleasant stay and I am truly sorry for that. We have since purchased a new mattress for the sofa bed and repaired the main floor toilet. If you look at the majority of reviews, you will see very satisfied guests.
