About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4 -6

Beautiful quiet neighborhood in Puyallup with 2/3 acre back yard. 700 sq ft Daylight basement turned into a posh modern pad with private patio, separate entrance at back of home. Comfortable queen size posturpedic bed in bedroom, full size sofa sleeper and 2 single futons for extra sleeping. Fully equipped kitchen including stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave (no dishwasher). Large backyard for playing games or just relaxing. A few steps away is a nice teak table and 4 chairs to enjoy table games or a meal. The house has a great view of the valley and to the west of Tacoma and the Olympic Mountains. We are 5 minutes from The Washington State Fairgrounds and Good Samaritan Hospital. Great accommodations if you have a short term work assignment or are transitioning to or from the area like Costco, REI or JBLM. Uber is a really popular way of getting around. We are also just a few minutes from the Sounder Train Station in Sumner or Puyallup that travels to Seattle with special runs to Mariner and Seahawk games. We do have a very people friendly dog named Cecil who may come to greet you when he is outside doing his business.

About Kim Hunter

I grew up in northwestern Illinois, worked in the fishing/shipping industry in Alaska and then moved to Seattle area almost 40 years ago. I owned a European style restaurant and catering company for 12 years and transitioned to mortgage and real estate business in 2000. I have always loved the hospitality industry so this BNB is a perfect fit. I am married to a realtor and we have two young adult children. I have a passion for fine food and wine and love reading and hiking.

Kim Hunter purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Kim Hunter chose Puget Sound

We chose this property because of the separate apartment which my mother lived in for 5 years before moving to assisted living. We love the neighborhood for its amazing views of the Puyallup/Sumner valley and across to the downtown and Port of Tacoma. Also of special interest is the large, peaceful, wooded lot and greenbelt behind us that hosts deer and the occasional coyote.

What makes this apartment unique

We fell in love with this property because of its peaceful nature and orientation toward the most spectacular views in the neighborhood. Sometimes when the fog is in the valley it reminds me of Shangri-La. It is a spectacular house for entertaining with many separate indoor areas, 3 decks and a patio.

Perfect place to stay for our trip to the Tacoma area!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time using VRBO in the US, and it was a great experience!

Kim was so friendly from way back when we made our reservation, and continued so while we were there. Her apartment had everything we needed, and much more! We were in town for a graduation nearby, and the location and neighborhood was just perfect. We could watch rabbits, deer, and even a coyote in the garden!

Everything was clean and the kitchen was well-stocked. The bathroom had pretty much any toiletries one could need - we could have arrived without any toiletries, and everything we might need was there.

A great experience indeed. If we're ever in that area again, I'd definitely stay with Kim!

Owner's Response: Great to host Mary and her family. They were so enthusiastic about our apartment and meeting our dog Cecil. Everything was left clean and neat. Hope to see them back sometime.

Very cosy stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights (were in the area for a graduation) and really enjoyed all the thoughtful touches that made this very much home-from-home. Much appreciated the very well stocked pantry so that we were able to make our own breakfast without running out to buy groceries. Neighbourhood is very quiet and we were lucky to spot some rabbits/deer on the grounds. The apartment is right below the owners, so there can be a little noise from voices/the dog but nothing excessive. Would stay again - lovely place!

Suburban Stay Falls Short

  • 3 of 5

I want to start to say that the owner is very nice and the VRBO here is clean, but it is not what we expected. We really just needed a quiet place to sleep and shower, as we were visiting family in the area. The apartment area is directly under the owner's living space and unfortunately not nearly as quiet as we hoped for. Here are a few examples: you can hear people talking above you anytime that they are on the main floor, at 6am it sounded like heavy boots stomping overhead, the dog was barking late at night, you are directly below the kitchen and the ice machine seems like it is in your room, and there is what sounds like a VERY squeaky screen door as well. Needless to say it was not very quiet.

Also, we were charged an extra $60 for our two children to stay with us for the 3 nights. We stay at a lot of VRBO's and this has never happened before (especially when the unit says that it sleeps 4). In addition to this, the couch air mattress was broken and the futons that were provided are not really futons but fold out cushions for the floor. There was also a leak in the ceiling in the bathroom on the last night. We understand that things happen but overall, I would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: We try very hard to provide a clean and pleasant environment for our guests. As a family we do try to be respectful of our guests and typically will move upstairs by 10 pm. In this case, there was a series of things that happened that added up to an unpleasant stay and I am truly sorry for that. We have since purchased a new mattress for the sofa bed and repaired the main floor toilet. If you look at the majority of reviews, you will see very satisfied guests.

We would stay here again

Enjoyed our stay. Nice quiet neighborhood, separate entrance in private back yard. Nice well equipped, clean apartment. Kim is friendly & helpful. Comfy bed, kitchen well supplied & plenty of towels! Like the motion activated lights at night.

We came to Washington from Texas to visit our daughter and her family, and attend our grandson's wedding. The apartment was perfect for us and was very well kept. The owner was very friendly and helpful.

Lovely nook in a quiet neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

Clean and comfortable, quaint and well decorated little "mother in law" apartment. VERY comfortable bed. Perhaps best for just one or two, as the hide away bed (couch) was not quite cozy for an adult. Also there is a family above, so expect footsteps and the sounds of people enjoying their lives. Very peaceful sloping back yard with large beautiful trees. Hope to come back when I have more time.
