Welcome to the Alpenglow Bungalow! This warm, open, light-filled home will be your home away from home. You will probably never want to leave!
This vacation rental is the top floor of a 2 story home. You can also rent the entire home or just the bottom 2 BR/1BR unit.
The living room features an overstuffed sofa with comfy easy chairs along with a flat screen TV. DISH TV and wireless internet are provided. We get over 17 Mbps download speeds and 0.9 Mbps upload speeds over the WiFi, which means our internet is blazing fast!
The kitchen is open to the living and dining area and has all the amenities you need to whip up a gourmet meal. It is warm with sunny afternoon windows letting light pour in. Views of the apple orchards and mountains will draw you to the windows. It is completely stocked with everything you need to make fabulous meals. The dining table will seat 6 and the kitchen eating bar seats another 3. There is also a Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen. Connect your tunes and rock out!
We also have an outdoor BBQ so grab some grass-fed beef from Mt. Shasta Supermarket and get your grill on. Sit at the picnic table under the umbrella and enjoy the peek-a-boo mountain view. If you are here in the right months, head to the back of the property for some fresh-picked blackberries and grapes. Please note that the BBQ and yard area are communal and shared with the guests of the downstairs unit. Please wash and return BBQ tools from where they came and clean BBQ area after use.
Coffee lovers, you will love the "cafe" which is stocked with whole coffee beans from our awesome local roaster and a grinder for the freshest morning cup possible.
There are three bedrooms and one full bath, which has been recently renovated with a tiled bathtub and shower. Bedroom one has a Queen bed, the second has a King, and the third features two twins. They are all freshly decorated in Pottery Barn Style with lots of pillows and comfortable bedding, including 100% cotton sheets.
You can walk to several restaurants and also walk to two cafés. Seven Suns, out the door to your right, serves mouth-watering cinnamon rolls and all the fancy coffee drinks. Cross the street and go left and you will find Mt. Shasta Pastry, which offers a full breakfast and lunch menu as well as a magical selection of pastries. They also sell family dinners to go. Grab a lasagna and take it back to The Alpenglow! You are also only a short walk from our favorite local market, Berryvale. I have listed all of our favorite restaurants in the guest book.
On a similar note, the house is centrally located to Lakes Siskiyou and Castle, Bunny Flat, and the Mt. Shasta Board and Ski Park.

This is a good rental with a very well stocked kitchen--perhaps the best I've seen in a VRBO rental! The rental is on the main street about 5 blocks to downtown. The street was quiet from traffic by midnight. The king room is on the street side so if you are sensitive to noise, this may be a consideration. The one thing I found odd is you cannot control the temperature. We had to call Lauren to turn it up and then unfortunately had to call again--very late--to ask for it to be turned down. I am sure she has a good reason for doing this as I cannot imagine she enjoys being bothered over the thermostat.
We loved staying at this place! If I could give more stars I would. I so appreciate going into a place where everything is impeccably clean right down to providing a new cleaning sponge in the kitchen. Nice!
This was the perfect size for our family of five and it was quiet at night so we all got a good night's sleep. We were able to walk anywhere in town from there and enjoyed going to the bakery and Seven Suns for breakfast and Mike and Tony's for dinner. It is also a great location for getting to the Mt. Shasta Ski Area and hiking trails, etc. Lauren is VERY responsive and was quick to answer all of our questions. Thanks so much Lauren, we will be back. :)
This was our first visit to Mt. Shasta and we came for a few days of skiing/boarding. This home was just perfect for our family. The cottage is easy to find and centrally located. You can walk to restaurants and coffee shops and it's 20 minutes away from the mountain ski area. The house is bright, spotlessly clean and comfortable and has everything you need for your stay. Lauren has thought of everything to make the cottage welcoming even providing fresh flowers, chocolate and delicious coffee. There is a very comprehensive book providing tips on restaurants and local hikes and places of interest. It's evident that Lauren takes good care of the cottage and absolutely great care of her guests.
I brought two 10-year olds and one 7-year old up with me for their first taste of snowboarding, and wanted a comfortable home atmosphere to relax in after a long day on the slopes- this did not disappoint! Clean and open floor plan, I appreciated being able to cook in the kitchen while conversing with those in the dining room and living room! It was nice to walk to downtown the next day, stretching our legs while checking out the great pastry and thrift shops close by. Owner had lots of touches to make it feel special, but appreciated that she was local and so accessible for any problems or questions! She was very invested in making sure we had a good time and really enjoyed her town. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything I needed, and it was nice to just put some steaks on the propane bbq our first evening for a quick and easy dinner after a long drive from the Bay Area.
We escaped San Francisco for a little R & R, and arrived just in time to catch some fall color, Halloween night and the first rain of the season. The cottage is cozy, clean, nicely appointed and well located. We read spooky stories (in honor of Halloween), cooked at home and slept peacefully. If you like good clean fun -- hiking, swimming, skiing, climbing, fishing -- there's no better location than Mt. Shasta. We're picky and we were very pleased with this vacation rental.
We enjoyed very much our stay in Lauren's house. It is even better than what you see in the pictures, nice and warm.
Lauren was very kind and responsive all the time.
We would come back again without any doubt if in this area.
