The lodge was very clean and orderly...owners Monica and Mike were very helpful and available as needed. We rented the whole lodge, so everybody could spread out without interrupting other people. The new patio and grille area got a lot of use. Firepit with plenty of wood was used nightly
Beds very comfortable......nice that each room had its own bathroom.
About 1/3 of the rooms were only fitted with either 2 or 3 sets of bunks.....so sleeping arrangements for couples in some cases was not ideal. I understand that they are slowly converting more rooms to have queen bed and bunks, which is great for young families.
Everybody loved the rustic log cabin decor.......
Nearby access to Walloon lake was very nice and the 40 acre spread has some nice walking trails..
It was really the perfect place for a group our size
We traveled for a long weekend with lots of kids. There were a total of 58 of us. The lodge was PERFECT for our group. The outdoor kitchen was a huge bonus because we were able to bring our own food and cook all our meals on site which saved everyone a ton of money. The feild outback was also an enormous hit with the kids - even though our weekend was rainy, they played constant wiffle ball, football, tag, etc. The owner was fabulous at getting us anything we needed. Rooms were clean and pretty nice sized. Everyone commented on how comfy the beds were too! Lots of options for gathering spaces so everyone can choose there own thing. Beautiful beach is just a minute away along with a cute bar and restaurant and a wonderful park with playground, volleyball, basketball and a river/stream.
We had a fabulous weekend, just trying to figure out when we can come back again!
This lodge was a slice of heaven. We stayed there with a large group and it was perfect. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and each family had plenty of room. The facility is just great. We cooked 2 large dinners in the outdoor kitchen with pleasure and ease. The breakfast in the morning was great and there was plenty of room for us to store our food. The fire pit was a huge hit as was the expansive playing field and woods. We were so close to downtown Walloon and we were able to easily enjoy all that this cute town has to offer. There was not one person in our group who had anything other than glowing things to say about our time there. We can't wait to return to this special place!!!
We had been looking for a place to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary in a way that would "bring people together" in a quaint, engaging, and authentic setting. Elvyn Lea was a perfect fit. Since everyone stayed on the premises, it encouraged deeper conversations and connecting with each other over the course of a whole weekend.
We utilized the large green spaces and the fire-pits, we hiked the trails, we played old movies in the lounge and we spent a majority of the time on the outdoor patio. The included breakfasts were a surprising treat! The food and selection were REALLY good and the setting was perfect for hanging out, swapping stories, drinking coffee and catching up.
Nearby Walloon Village rounded out our activities. We rented a pontoon boat and played at the beach and ate a dinner at Barrel-Back.
The owners were quick to help out and provide support if needed. They were very helpful in planning the event, too. This is a great place for a larger get-together (like a reunion, anniversary party, wedding) in an unassuming, unpretentious, outdoorsy, down-home kind of way.
While visiting my mother in Alpena, Michigan, I decided to go on a visit to Boyne City, Petoskey, Charlevoix & Traverse City. Our first night's stay was at Elvyn Lee Lodge. We couldn't have asked for a better start to our trip. We were able to enjoy the leaves changing right from our window. Michael and Monica, the owners, could not have been more welcoming. I was so impressed with their restoration of the lodge. The did a perfect job of restoring and capturing the feel of Northern Michigan and all if it's beauty. And the breakfast, WOW, I wanted Monica to come home with me so I could have those breakfasts every day. Sitting around the fire place in the lodge is so fun, perfect place to have a glass of wine and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.
As an aside, I'm an artist living in Santa Fe, NM, and I was so surprised to see the wonderful quality of art in Northern Michigan! I would highly recommend Elvyn Lee Lodge as a great place for groups of artists to stay as you tour the local cities in the area that are filled with wonderful art of all kinds.
This property was what I have been longing for. Quiet, clean in a natural setting. And the hot breakfast in the morning, that completed my stay! If you are wanting to stay off the beaten path, in a quiet setting, this property is for you.
