Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 6

Kool Jumbey (Unit 1C on the upper level) is a professionally decorated vacation rental that enjoys maximum sunshine through the windows and on the surrounding decks, from sunrise to sunset, with spectacular views of both oceans. You can watch the sun rise over the Atlantic and set over the Caribbean. Both views are vast and spectacular.

Buttonwood Reserve has access to two beaches. On the Atlantic side, Buttonwood has a world-class, 3-mile-long pink-sand beach, pristine, without a single house on it. This Atlantic side beach is accessed via our private, golf-carts only driveway. The condominium comes with a golf cart. This miles-long beach is virtually private for us, because the only other access is a rough and little used jeep track half a mile to the south. On the Caribbean side of our property, almost in your front yard, is a second beach, which has excellent snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing. This beach is small and rather rocky, so not so aesthetic, but it’s as calm as a lake most of the time and perfect for the above activities.

If you’re not in the mood for a swim in the ocean on one of our two beaches, slip into our new resort-style pool, just steps from your condominium. This beautiful landscaped pool is heated for comfortable swimming year round.

Back inside, the great room of this magnificent condominium features an 8-foot sliding glass door with Caribbean views. The slider opens onto a large deck furnished for lounging or dining while watching the sunset over the Caribbean. This spacious deck extends around the corner of the building for views in every direction. Enjoy a meal or a beverage on the deck, or watch the dolphins frolic in the Caribbean. The great room includes a living area with flat-screen satelitte TV and a dining area with dining room seating for six. The east end of the great room features a modern, open-plan, luxurious kitchen finished in stainless steel and black granite. The kitchen, dining area, and living room have magnificent ocean views in every direction, with water sparkling as far as the eye can see.

The master bedroom features a large upholstered window seat with magnificent panoramic views of the Caribbean, a perfect spot to relax with a book or morning coffee, or watch the sunset over the sea. The master is furnished with a king bed and equipped with an en-suite full bath. The master has a private door leading to the deck over the Caribbean.

The guest bedroom also features a large window seat with a spectacular view, this one overlooking the Atlantic. The guest bedroom has a full en-suite bath (which can be accessed from the hall as well). It is furnished with twin beds that can be converted into a king. The guest bedroom has a private door to the east deck of the house, which overlooks the Atlantic. The east deck also extends around the corner of the building for views in every direction.

Buttonwood Reserve is an easy 15-minute drive from Governor’s Harbour, the main town on the island. Governor’s Harbour has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from the fisherman at the town dock. Visit the Haynes Library, which dates from 1897. Governor’s Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. The Friday night Anchor Bay Fish Fry in Governor’s Harbour, a combination street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.

Just a mile from Buttonwood Reserve is the village of James Cistern, which has two grocery stores (JC Discount and East and Final), a town dock where the fisherman bring their catch every day, a produce stand, and three small local restaurants, Kel-D’s, Lee’s Café, and the new Leorose Sunset Beach Bar and Grill. James Cistern is also the home of Stubb’s famous barbecue, now called Tamarind Tree Grill, every Friday and Saturday, which is not to be missed.

Other restaurants in the area include Pascal’s at boutique luxury resort Sky Beach Club, which offers an excellent beachfront restaurant, beach bar and infinity pool with swim up cocktail bar and poolside service all day long. Other restaurants in the area include Tippy’s (international and fusion), The Beach House (tapas), 1648 Bar & Grille at French Leave (fine dining for lunch and dinner), The Rainbow Inn (steaks and Monday night brick oven pizza night) and Da Perk Café (café and sandwich shop). Most have live music one or more nights a week.

Eleuthera is most famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is safe and friendly. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks and bikes. There is excellent sightseeing, as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore.

We hope you will enjoy Kool Jumbey at Buttonwood Reserve and experience all that Governor’s Harbour and Eleuthera have to offer.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had the most amazing stay at Buttonwood. We came down to ELeuthra a group of ladies celebrating our 40th birthdays. We stayed in Sapodilly and Kool Jumbey. Both condos were beautifully decorated, well equipped and very comfortable. The decor was beautiful and tastefully picked out.The views were exquisite and therapeutic. We loved the entire property. The use of golf carts, kayaks, and beach equipment took the experience over the top. We made use of the Atlantic beach, the pool and loved kayaking down to Leo's on the Caribbean side. We bone fished with guide Paul Petty , boogy boarded on the Atlantic visited with the warm locals at the town Fish Fry and made many excursions to visit beaches and towns. We lived our day trip to Harbour Town and the pink sand beaches. The convenience of location was perfect to jump around. Fresh conch was prepared at the docks in James Cistern. And we loved going to the coffee shop Da Perk. Couldn't be more impressed with the hospitality we received from your staff Tia and Patrick were so very accommodating and locals on the island were cheerful and welcoming. We did have a power outage, and some inclement weather and our entire party got a virus we generously passed on to one another. But that did not stop us from having a trip of a lifetime. Thank you to you and the staff for making a most memorable vacation for all of us. Cannot wait to come back! We loved visiting beaches Cocoadimana and Gaulding Cay. We tried to cliff jump but the Carribean was rough. Loved the Glass Window Bridge and Govenors Habour was charming. Everything we need was provided for. Sunshine, surf, fresh air And seafood. It was a perfect trip!

Wonderful Condo Near Town of James Cistern, Eleuthera, Bahamas

  • 5 of 5

This past week (mid-February 2017) my wife and I and another couple stayed in one of the upper units of Buttonwood Reserve on the island of Eleuthera. The condo was great! Sparkling clean and well stocked with dishes, glassware, linen, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, and soap for both dishwasher and clothes washer. It includes a golf cart for the ~1 mile trip to the Atlantic-side beach, several kayaks to use in the nearby Caribbean bay, and a lovely warm swimming pool shared with the other seven condos on the property. The views of both the Atlantic and Caribbean from the two balconies were fantastic, and the balconys were great for viewing the amazing sky at night. The only mild annoyance was the occasional "no-see-um" bite around sunset, but most evenings were breezy, so no insects bothered us. It is important to have a vehicle as most restaurants and food stores, and some of the best swimming beaches, require transportation. There is one wonderful dining spot on the beach within walking distance from the condo - named Leorose at the southern edge of the town of James Cistern. Amazing to enjoy a rum punch and dinner on the beach while watching the sunset!

Relaxed luxury with unbelievable views

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Buttonwood in January, 2016 and really enjoyed it. The master bedroom offers amazing views of the Bight of Eleuthera (think gorgeous, turquoise waters), and on a clear night you can gaze at the moon glowing on the water before you doze off. The decor is modern but not fussy, the space is bright and open but still feels cozy… it's just a great place. There are 8 condos on this property and when we were there 6/8 were occupied, but it was so quiet and private that we still felt like we were the only ones there.

At this rental you're close to both James Cistern, Rainbow Bay, and Governors Harbour so groceries, bars, and restaurants are close but not "too close". We didn't swim at the beach on the Atlantic side since the weather was chilly and really windy during our stay, but it's great for a stroll (you can see a shipwreck from the beach!), it's just a short walk (or golf cart ride) from the property, and our guidebook highly recommends it.

We loved our stay at Buttonwood, and our positive experience here is one reason that we fell in love with Eleuthera.

Buttonwood reserve is an easy 15-minute drive from Governors Harbour, the main town on the island. Governors Harbour has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. Friday night fish fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.

Just a mile from Buttonwood Reserve is the village of James Cistern, which has a good grocery store, a town dock where the fisherman bring their catch every day, a produce stand, and two small local restaurants, Kel-d’s and Lee’s cafe. James Cistern is also the home of Stubb’s famous barbecue, every Friday and Saturday, which is not to be missed.

Buttonwood reserve is less than 10 minutes from the boutique luxury resort Sky Beach Club, which has an excellent beachfront restaurant and infinity pool, with swim up cocktail bar and poolside service all day long. Other restaurants in the area include Tippy’s (international and fusion), the Beach House (tapas), the Rainbow Inn (famous for its steaks) and Da Perk (cafe and sandwich shop). The restaurants and little resorts have live music one or more nights a week, so there is live entertainment somewhere nearby almost every night.

Eleuthera is most famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is famous for being safe. Enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving your keys in the car wherever you go. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class.
