Relax with a cup of tea or a Mint Julep in your downtown Historic Charleston apartment while others are fighting traffic. The Peninsula of Charleston is where you want to be if you are weary of the syncopated unrest of a crazy world. Come here and set your feet to a saner tempo, where Dubose Heyward and George Gershwin composed Porgy and Bess, the first American opera. The streets of Charleston have some thing to give them that walk them in a receptive mood that will make life forever richer. Charleston is America's best kept secret.
This is a spacious three bedroom, two bath apartment, with full kitchen and dining room. The back bedroom has a queen size reproduction Old Charleston Rice Bed and matching bathroom.
The front two bedrooms are of a double bed and another with twins. Bedside tables and lamps are on each side. Attention to details is visible in tatting and embroidery of white linens, carefully chosen period furniture, and vintage china and silver. The purpose is to give you an affordable Old Charleston experience, as if you lived here. There is a two car garage in back for off street parking.
The Charleston Tea Party Private Tour gives you a chance to get to know the vacation rental owner, a native Charlestonian, and have her as your own personal concierge. She takes you to the Battery, to private gardens, to the highlights of the historic district, and to her house for Tea at lunch time.
Keywords: A 3 bedroom, two bath second floor apt in a two story house sleeps up to 7 in historic Charleston within walking distance of Ashley Hall, home of
Confederate Treasurer Trenholm, and Hominy Grill restaurant. Spacious and carefully appointed with fine touches of historic Charleston. Exposed beams in main room. Full kitchen and dining room.
My husband had the wisdom to buy this property while we were dating. I never dreamed my Charleston Tea Party Private Tour and this property would marry. We keep it affordable for those who want to savor Charleston for a week while they go on my tour and get to know Charleston. We live downtown as well on the Ashley River with our 3 teenagers and English Springer Spaniel, Chesterfield, who reflects being made in the image of God better than we do. I invite you into our home for Tea at lunchtime at the end of my tour.
Laura Wichmann Hipp purchased this house in 1987
My husband and I are both from Charleston, grew up here, and never desired to live anywhere else. He was living in the large historic house across the street from this vacation rental, renting from the childless couple who lived there and loved him, when this rental house came on the market. Instead of living the high life while dating me, he wisely invested in this property. I thought this property would provide opportunities for people who love Charleston to come with family or friends and stay longer at a more affordable price.
Everywhere you want to go in the historic district is within walking or bicycling distance. The spacious apartment is clutter free, each being a room with a view. You can bring or rent bicycles. There is room in the private garage for them and your car in the back. A washer and dryer are also in the back. It is a vibrant neighborhood of young medical professionals, historic houses, and popular restaurants and bakeries nearby. There is a big picnic basket in the kitchen you can fill for a picnic to a plantation or park. SUGAR bakery on Cannon St around the corner and Saffron's on East Bay are great for collecting baked goods for a tea party picnic. You will find a gallon jar for sweet iced tea from Charleston grown tea. The trolley bus is free and picks up on Cannon St, a one minute walk from the house, taking you all over the peninsula of historic Charleston. A map with its stops in a guide book awaits you in the kitchen. The history of Charleston is to be savored, the visual richness of English architecture and garden designs to be enjoyed. One lifetime is not enough.
204 Ashley was the perfect vacation rental for my mini-reunion with friends. I am from Charleston and knew right away that it's location was about 10 minutes by car from EVERYTHING anyone would want to do or see! On our visit we went to The Market for shopping, the Nathaniel Russell House, the Edmondston-Alston House, Fort Sumter, The Citadel, Middleton Plantation, Rainbow Row, my favorite ocean destination.....Folly Beach, and Many more! On Laura's Charleston Tea Party tour we got a wonderful look into several private homes and a wonderful Tea Luncheon at the end. 204 Ashley was the perfect size for my husband and I and 2 couples that wanted to see our home town. Every roIom was like being in a private home and was decorated "Charleston Style"! Fresh flowers everywhere and special breakfast fixing...including fresh bread, eggs, tea, coffee and Laura's homemade Calamondin Marmalade! There are 5 or 6 local restaurants that are within walking distance.....Hominy Grill and Five Loaves were both excellent. Did not get to Sugar, a noted Bakery...but I will definitely next time. Laura was so helpful and answered every question we could throw at her. Her private tour was fantastic and I must say, even as a Charlestonian, she gave us all a glimpse of real history.....from quoting lines from real diaries to telling stories handed down by family and friends! For a step back into history her tour is perfect......and 204 Ashley is the perfect place to start your journey. Thanks Laura!
wonderful spot in an amazing town. the owner made the stay even more pleasant will her attentiveness. we'll be back!!
The owner was lovely and checked in with us while we were there to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. The location was perfect for us being a block away from a synagogue. Having a fridge, freezer, stove and oven made making our own food easy. Two full bathrooms made it a true family friendly get away. The wood floors also make it comfortable for our family members with allergies. The community has many helpful people. The location is only about 15 minutes from the beach.
I spent a long weekend in Charleston with friends. Laura's home was perfect for us. It represented Charleston perfectly. Everything was within walking distance for us; even the tours and the area. There's a free shuttle that picks up if you don't want to walk. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Great location for Spoleto and restaurants! The apartment was charming, spacious and clean. I stayed here with four others and we had plenty of room and privacy. The owner (Laura) left beautiful fresh flowers in every room, stocked the kitchen with local coffee, fresh eggs, fresh bread, and homemade marmalade. We had two cars (and were grateful for Laura’s off street covered parking), but we ended up walking to many activities - and used hassle-free pedicabs and uber when we felt like it. Restaurants nearby included Halo, Fuel, Hominy Grill and Five Loaves. Laura was a wonderful and generous host. Thank you Laura for all of your kindness!
We felt like we were staying at a friend's apartment - a little home away from home when we recently stayed here. The living room space is not large, but the kitchen works well and the dining table was set beautifully, which made us feel very welcome. Laura left us bread, marmalade, fresh eggs, and fresh flowers. Being able to park off the street was a big plus. We loved being able to walk to shops and restaurants. We will be back soon. Thank you for your hospitality.
It is a great getaway for Citadel, College of Charleston, and Medical University of South Carolina parents and family to visit their sons and daughters and provide a home away from home.
