La Pisa is a small family run guest house known for warm hospitality and excellent cuisine. Located in the pretty village of Aniezo, Cantabria, Northern Spain, it is ideally placed to visit either popular tourist venues or get off the beaten track and explore the Picos de Europa. The hotel is open all year round and has 8 en-suite rooms, bar, restaurant, terrace, garden and private parking. It is 40 minutes to the nearest beach. The village is located near Potes in the Liebana valley, considered the sunniest in the Picos! The pretty village green is a place to relax and picnic along the banks of the brook and is a good starting point for local walks or mountain bike trails. You will find peace and tranquillity in this beautiful setting with spectacular mountain scenery and beautiful grassy slopes filled with wild flowers. Outdoor activities are numerous including walking, mountaineering, mountain biking, canoeing, climbing and canoeing. We run painting and photography holidays.
Five of us, 2 adults and 3 children stayed at La Pisa for a few days during our trip to the Picos de Europa which were absolutely stunning. We really enjoyed our stay here with John, Gwen and their daughter who was visiting at the time. Between the 3 of them, they did their best to ensure that we had a really comfortable and relaxing stay. John also accommodated our dietary requirements as we are all vegetarians and one of us allergic to quite a few foods. Nothing was too much trouble for John, Gwen and Claire and their welcome, advice and hospitality really did make this part of our trip lovely. The guesthouse itself is located in a little village from which is easy to get to a lot of the amazing places in the Picos, including the beaches on the coast. The nearest large village, Potes is easy to get to and is a relaxing, enjoyable place to spend time and go for drinks and tapas. The guest house itself is clean, well maintained and very comfortable. It was also lovely when we stayed, as there were a range of people from various countries staying over and it was nice to chat about the day's experiences in the evenings. We would definitely stay here again and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone for both a short, or longer term stay.
I am sorry for being late in writing this review.
Apart from La Pisa being in the most beautiful location, the hosts John and Gwen are the most friendly and lovely people you could wish for as owners to complement the overall enjoyment of a holiday there. We arrived in pouring rain to find all the guests enjoying the hospitality of the hotel in the bar area, instantly we felt the friendly atmosphere that they were already enjoying. Nothing was too much trouble for John and Gwen, and Janet and I both liked them for the way they had this down to earth approach in being so helpful with a lovely sense of humour that came through.
Our room was very clean and comfortable with its verdant outlook over the valley and forest opposite the hotel, and well maintained. We would most definitely stay there again, and intend to do so as soon as we can, in fact when we left and John and Gwen came to see us off, we were quite sad to leave and on our onward journey to Portugal wished we had stayed at La Pisa for longer.
Potes the nearest town and regarded as the gateway to the Picos de Europa was close by and we eat there on just one occasion, even then we wished we had not bothered because the cuisine that John provided was so good and we missed the atmosphere of the dining room.
We found the Picos de Europa to be magnificent, and I will not list all the places to visit, simply because it is for you to go out and explore the area which has to be the most beautiful region of Spain with its craggy mountain peaks and scenery so wonderfully diverse. The villages of the Picos are fascinating to visit with many escaping any modernistic tendencies to build new properties that would spoil what is a very special vernacular, the styles of which remain true to the origins of the typical agricultural region it once was.
Finally we look forward to returning to stay with John and Gwen at the lovely La Pisa for a second time to enjoy the hospitality, and especially to taste more of John's cooking which is worthy of the praise given to many good chefs.

Our young family of five had a wonderful time at La Pisa with John and Gwen.
The food was absolutely delightful and very high in quality - some of the best food I've ever eaten. John (who does the cooking) was also very flexible to accomodate our children's various tastes which was very much appreciated by them.
John and Gwen themselves are lovely and excellent hosts. A significant plus point of the stay was the general chat with John and Gwen (and other guests and locals) in the bar. There is a very friendly vibe in general at La Pisa, with everyone talking with each other. They were also really good with our children.
The location is also beautiful - the scenery is magnificent (the views from both the windows in our bedroom were stunning) and the village is very picturesque and good to walk around, and safe for the children to roam around.
There was plenty to do in the area, with some beaches just about being a comfortable drive away, a lovely town called Potes nearby and plenty of caves and cable cars to entertain if you've had your fill of walking and soaking up the scenery. There is also no sign whatsoever of drunken brits on club 18 30 holidays with chronic sun burn.
I would recommend a stay at La Pisa and am very happy that we chose to go there and Cantabria in general.
Fantastic break to the 'picos' the hosts (John & Gwyn) were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. The food amazing and rooms spotless. The help and guidence was invaluble. Will definitely recomend it and will certainly return.
Comfortable accomodation with excellent service and first class cuisine. John and Gwen made us feel welcome and were not only excellent hosts but were prepared to take the time to provide in depth local information that helped to make our stay one to remember. John has a detailed knowledge of the area and provided much appreciated help in planning our walks.
The local market town of Potes is only a 10 minute drive and beyond you will find the spectacular cable car ride from Fuente De to the top of the Picos! The Liebana valley is full of pretty farming villages to visit where you can try local cheese and wine. The Sotama visitor centre gives you a real feel for life in the area and how the valley looks in all seasons. The popular walks to Tresviso and the Cares gorge are close by. Nearby Santander is an elegant city where you can boutique shop and try the tapas. Nearby beaches offer sandy or rocky coves and some of the most beautiful coastal scenery on the Costa Verde. The pretty fishing village of Llanes and San Vicente are well worth a visit.
