About Silvia Gillespie

My husband and I met in Fort Lauderdale when we were both in our 40's. He proposed to me 18 months after we met during a visit to my home country of Italy - in Vernazza, Cinque Terre to be exact. He was a nervous mess but so charming at the same time.

I was born in Genova, Italy to a long lineage of Italian ancestry and has lived in 7 other countries: Singapore, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, India, Greece and Venezuela. I speak English, Italian and Spanish fluently. Fort Lauderdale has been my home since 1995. Currently I am a full-time pet sitter and translator, with pet-sitting being my favorite job of course!

T.J. was born in Green Bay and raised in Madison by a single father in Wisconsin. He was an accomplished gymnast at James Madison Memorial High school taking 5th in the state. T.J. graduated from college with a Marketing Degree and is now a successful web developer and photographer hobbyist. In fact, you’ll find his photos hanging in the vacation home and if you are so inclined, while you are in town, he is for hire for private photography lessons. He is rated the best photographer instructor in the south Florida area. He moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1996 - and yes, being born in Green Bay and raised in Wisconsin, he is a Packers fan!

Silvia Gillespie purchased this house in 2003

Why Silvia Gillespie chose South Fort Lauderdale

The home was purchased in 2003 due to it's fantastic location. TJ worked in downtown Ft. Lauderdale at the time and his drive to work would be less than 15 minutes. As well, all the major highways: I95, I595 and the Florida Turnpike; leading to Miami, West Palm Beach, the Florida Keys, Orlando and the charming west coast (Naples, Captiva and Sanibel Island and more) are all within minutes from the house. Lastly, he very much appreciated the neighborhood feel. It was quiet with people walking dogs with their children and close to neighborhood grocery stores, locally owned restaurants and pharmacies.

What makes this house unique

One feature that we really love about the home is the 10 foot window in the living room that faces the front yard. It floods the living room in beautiful light throughout the day. Other features we just love about the home aren't even part of the house but rather the 3 very large trees on the property. A royal poinciana showcases the home on the front, a stoic oak flanks the house on the north side and a slash pine rounds it out on the south side.

We felt really comfortable at the flamingo house. It had a lot of little things we needed and unique details. We did a lot of grilling in the back yard, it was very nice. I would definitely stay again.

Everything is close by!

This house is tucked away in a nice mature neighborhood. It was quiet and there was little traffic and no noise from the interstate or Davie Road at all. I had my coffee each morning out back at the table hoping for a visit from a four legged friend, but sadly he only paced along the edge of the neighbors boat on the other side of the fence and never came over. That was the only neighbor we ever saw. The laundry room is convenient and fully stocked. The bed was comfy and the couch reclined just right for TV watching. Lauderdale By The Sea, Las Olas Blvd, the airport, Port Everglades and Whole Foods is just a short drive away. The kitchen is fully equipped if you decide to stay in. The bath is appointed nicely. If you pull your rental car into the carport for the night be careful opening your doors as it is a bit narrow. We were fine with the Chevy Impala we had. TIP: I'm a big old school diner fan and try to find such an eatery wherever we go. So far, highly recommend Metro Diner in Tamarac. Don't get confused with the Dennys right there on the corner. This place is just behind on the corner of the strip mall. Service was awesome, food was great! It's a local chain but so good. Those are some of the best joints for good chowing down! We would definately come back to this house next time we come for a cruise. We love the area and always spend time at both ends doing the tourist thing. Thanks.

I would like to thank Silvia and TJ for hosting my stay on their beautiful home. My stay was from 7/28/17-8/1/17. This house had everything you needed and then some. My favorite was the chalk and magnetic wall. The back yard is beautifully decorated and so is the interior. The front yard was a beautiful huge tree that provided lots of shade. I just loved the house!!! Thanks again!

Clean house, excellent hosts, and great location!

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I recently stayed in the home to see my daughter's (my mom's grand-daughter's) gymnastics meet. The house was the perfect size for us and was close to everywhere we needed (and wanted) to visit. The home was clean and in a quiet neighborhood, yet close to the interstate, the airport, and the coast. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if I am in the area; I have also already recommended it to my family and friends.
