About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

Meticulously renovated 1888 Victorian cottage in downtown Winter Harbor. Let this charming home be your hub for all the activities in Schoodic Peninsula and Acadia National Park. It has space to entertain or just to unwind.

The newly-completed renovation has preserved this Victorian’s character with tall ceilings, crown molding, original trim and hardwood floors; and provides modern living with open concept kitchen/dining/family rooms, granite countertops, new appliances, remodeled bathrooms and refreshed spaces. The kitchen and upstairs rooms have views of Henry Cove and the Bar Harbor ferry landing. Outside, the inviting gardens in the side and back yards fringe the eating/relaxing areas with table and chairs. A lobster cooking pot, stove and utensils and a gas grill are ready.

All of Schoodic Peninsula is in close proximity, but why drive? Walk to local restaurants for morning espresso or fine and casual dining. Groceries, gifts and supplies, banking, library, post office, Historic Society building, art galleries, antique stores and the Winter Harbor lobster pound* are in close walking distance. Take the free Island Explorer * to key points around Schoodic Peninsula and the Bar Harbor Ferry * for a car-free excursion to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park bus system. Hike, bike, kayak or canoe * including trails at Acadia National Park* and the new Schoodic Woods Campground *. Enjoy the work of local artists and performing arts including those sponsored in town by Schoodic Arts for All *.

When not out and about, you can relax with an available book or game or just enjoy watching the gulls, bald eagles and an occasional cardinal. Or you can plug-in with cable internet and tv.

Not a detail forgotten

Booked this property for a family vacation for my sisters 60th birthday, a Bucket List item. The cottage was well stocked with all of the essentials and then some. Beautiful and very comfortable. Stores are within walking distance. Acadia is amazing and within biking distance, while Thunder Hole and Cadillac Moutain are a bit over an hour drive, but well worth the ride. Thank you! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed your beautiful cottage! Jenn C.

Hated to leave!

Everything as desribed. Everything you could ask for and more. Spotless and well appointed. The village of Winter Harbor a wonderful place to kick back a few days. Would love living in this house.

Clean and well equipped. A very nice place to relax and call 'home' for a period of time.

The communication with the owners was excellent leading up to the time we were to arrive. The directions provided for the stay were very clear and detailed. Reall, nothing was forgotten. It made the stay very relaxing. The kitchen is well stocked, the bedrooms are very comfortable and there is plenty of room to spread out in the house. We enjoyed coffee in the garden each morning (the weather was great!). The quaint charm of Winter Harbor is wonderful - we travelled quite a bit while here though. While it is a bit of a jaunt to get to Acadia Nat'l Park - don't let that deter you from renting this property. There is plenty to do on the Schoodic peninsula too.

Overall, we were very pleased with the accommodations. Thank you!

Beautiful place to stay!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful week in Winter Harbor. The cottage is so charming and well appointed. Almost anything we needed was already there The beds were comfortable. There were lots of games available and we ended each night with some card games or yahtzee. Schoodic Point is very close and it is such a beautiful area for sight seeing and hiking. We drove to Bar Harbor several times during the week (close to an hours drive) for whale watching, shopping, eating out, or just sight seeing. We saw the sun rise from Cadillac Mountain, and hiked to the top of Mt. Champlain which had the most amazing views! There are lots of little fishing villages in the area which are fun to visit. We bought live lobsters and cooked them right outside the cottage in the lobster pot provided. We visited all of the local shops and it was so convenient having the grocery store within walking distance. There is a washer and drier so we didn't have to worry about having a ton of dirty clothing when we returned home. I had a minor issue which I texted Michelle about a few hours after our arrival and she called me back and was so kind and appreciative. I would recommend this cottage to anyone traveling with a family to the Bar Harbor area. My 16 year old daughter wants a house just like it and my 70 year old mother wants to move to Maine!

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Victorian Cottage was a perfect peaceful getaway for our family visit to Acadia National Park. Just a 50 minute drive to Mount Desert Island and the park, we easily made the drive for our hiking trips and visits to Bar Harbor and lighthouses, although there is a ferry you can take over, or the Island bus. Located on the Schoodic Peninsula, we enjoyed hiking that area of the park as well. The home is absolutely adorable. Very comfortable and Jim and Michelle paid attention to every detail and are very nice. Winter Harbor is a cute town, and the home was within walking distance to restaurants, grocery and shops. This home is a gem!
