Trail's Edge is not just a place to get away from it all--it is located in an area steeped in history, natural beauty, recreational opportunities and within a short drive of some serious shopping and sight seeing.
The newly constructed facility takes its name from a trail that passes through its grounds. In 1838 John Benge led a group of over 1,000 Cherokees from Fort Payne in nearby DeKalb County over Sand Mountain and down to the Meltonsville community. They were on their way to Indian Territory in Oklahoma during what has been termed the 'Trail of Tears.' Portions of the original road bed can be seen to the left of the driveway entrance.
Inside you will find three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a spacious living room with vaulted ceiling. Our modern kitchen features all the amenities, but you may want to do some of your cooking outside in our enclosed facility with both charcoal and gas grills. Next to the outdoor kitchen is a large hot tub to unwind after a busy day of fishing, hiking, or shopping.
Located within a ten minute drive is Lake Guntersville State Park, which offers a splendid, almost aerial view of the area. People from all over the country come here in February to see Bald Eagles, but some of the magnificent birds are permanent residents. If golf is your passion, you will want to tee off at the park's challenging 18 hole course.
Also located nearby are Buck's Pocket State Park and High Falls Park (it features a spectacular 40 foot waterfall). A twenty minute drive will take you to historic Guntersville, founded in 1785. It offers several antique and speciality shops and some gourmet restaurants. The ante-bellum Gilbreath house at 353 Blount Avenue, is home to the Guntersville Historical Society, and is open on Saturday mornings. The Guntersville Museum, on Rayburn Avenue, is open free of charge Tuesdays through Sundays. A few miles south on 431 is Boaz, with plenty of outlet stores for the discriminating shopper. Or, if your interest is 'space exploration', Huntsville is about an hour's drive away. Its Space and Rocket Center is a world class attraction.
But you may just want to sit on the front deck while taking in the natural splendor of this quiet little corner of northeast Alabama.

Great vacation getaway!
Very clean and very well kept. Has everything that you need. Whether for a few days or a week. Outdoor Kitchen was a great place to sit and relax. We cooked out on the charcoal grill but gas grill was available, if desired. We had 3 trucks and 3 boats. Plenty of parking. Outdoor Kitchen has power and water. Easy to charge boats. Ample room for 6 adults to sit comfortably. Carried my puppy. Pet friendly. House was very comfortable for 6 adults. We had a great time and wish we could have stayed longer! We will be going back! Beautiful!
Quiet & Peaceful
We arrived & found a very cozy Cabin on the Knoll, with wood detail inside and comforts of home all around.
Beautiful views and an outdoor Kitchen area and Hot tub.
Don't forget to bring your Boat, there is a ramp down the street which makes the location of home nice.
Planning our next vacation to the Cabin soon.
Very clean and comfortable cabin
The rental was easy and everything was in place and it all works as it should. We had a great time at Guntersville State Park and all that goes with it. The outdoor kitchen was a dream as it was great.
Thank you for your review. We do our own cleaning and try to keep everything working well. We try to provide everything needed to make a stay enjoyable for our guest. It has been a pleasure to have you as a guest and hope you will return soon.
Winter family vacation
The cabin was nice and we enjoyed the outdoor hot tub and outdoor fireplace. There was no internet or cell service at the cabin. Not much to do in the area and no views from the cabin. But we enjoyed exploring the state parks and drove 1.5 hours into Chattanooga. The local people in Guntersville are the nicest people you can ever meet.
We plan to install Wi-Fi in the near future.
Beautiful Cabin on a Knoll
We needed to get away with family from the hussel and bussel of holidays. The cabin was a perfect getaway. The beds were comfortable. 2 queens upstairs and 1 king downstairs. The Christmas tree was decorated and ready for presents to go under. The kitchen was well stocked and Christmas dinner went off without a hitch. Because of poor reception for cellular service, a real plus, we got to reconnect as a family. (No WiFi either) If you must make a call, we drove a short distance to the pier at the lake and checked our messages. This turned into an adventure since the scenery is lovely there. The owners are very communicative, answered any questions and the Hot Tub was ready when we got there. We want to return in the Fall and utilize the outdoor kitchen/fireplace.
Thank you for the wonderful review. We try to provided the things needed for a pleasant stay and hope you will tell others about our house and return in the future. We keep our place clean and provide things we think might be needed by our guest.
A wonderful, romantic mini vacation!
My husband and I seen pictures of Mentone on Facebook. We knew we just had to visit! When everything in Mentone was booked I found this cabin in Guntersville. I am so glad I did! It was gorgeous and well kept. The owners really take care of the property. We enjoyed the hot tub under the starts at night. We also enjoyed grilling in the outdoor kitchen.
