Peaceful. Great for walking, biking, birding, and swimming if you like the Atlantic Ocean. Very conveniently located.
Great sunsets, second floor deck ideal for drinks or dining. Or choose to have full meals on front porch, back deck, or in dining area. Island ideal for biking, walking, and all summer activities including swimming and boating
I have rented many vacation homes over the years. The turtles nest is the cleanest and most comfortable I've ever rented. It is very comfortable for an extended family. It is a very lovely home in a great location. Highly recommended!
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Turtles' Nest cottage. We enjoyed the sunset and ocean views. We loved the beautiful back garden. Adding to it's charm was the occasional visit by a couple of local chickens.
The kitchen appeared well stocked and everything we needed was available. The upstairs beds were comfortable. There was a convenient full bath located on the first level. The family room furniture was very comfortable and there was an assortment of books, dvds, and a few games for relaxing with the family.
The location was close to everything. It was about a 5-10 minute walk to the beaches, restaurants, shops, and grocery stores and just a few more minutes to the ferry.
We would stay at this property again.
Thank you for having us! We really enjoyed our stay at 'Turtles Nest'. We loved sitting on the 2nd floor porch and admiring the water view, and we were also happy to find a lovely garden in the backyard.
Also, we loved that this house actually had working wifi & cable! We've stayed on Peaks before and found that other houses are less connected than this one. It was especially appreciated because we had one day of rain and were glad to be able to relax and watch TV!
The house is ~12 min walk from the ferry and just a few minutes to the island general store, so it's feasible without a car.
Unfortunately, this property did not live up to our expectations. We differ from many renters in that we stayed a month in this home. I can image that someone staying for a week would not have been as bothered.
On the plus side, it had a good location, within easy walking distance of the ferry and the shops. The sunsets could be viewed from the front porch, and were breathtaking. The best feature of the house was the kitchen, which is modern and has several small appliances. The internet service is great. We had an electrical problem and a serviceman showed up that day and fixed it.
The homeowner was very easy to reach by email. She always responded within a day and sought to be accommodating most of the time.
However, considering the rental price, we expected a better maintained property. The hand rail for the steps leading from the street to the yard was broken and duct tape had to be placed over holes in some screens (on the porch and the second floor balcony) to keep the mosqitoes from coming in. The clothes dryer made loud grinding and screeching noises. We dried our clothes on the porch and an outside railing. It was fixed during the third week of our stay, though the owner was notified during the first week of our stay. The VRBO entry advertised satellite television but it was basic cable with about ten channels. One of the king-size beds was two twins pushed together, unevenly at that. Be advised, the fourth bedroom can only be accessed by going through another bedroom, and is a tiny space. We expected the home to be clean when we arrived. The glass doors were dirty, the kitchen counter tops had crumbs and dust behind and under canisters, and who knows how long it had been since the baseboards behind pieces of furniture or the floors under the furniture had been dusted. We have never rented a house in this condition in the 30 years we have rented vacation homes.
In fairness, it is an adequate property. Compared to other properties we have rented in resort areas through the years, this property is not as well maintained.
