About Jason

I call Lost River, WV home. I'm here just shy of full time. I work as a nurse at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital three days a week, the other four I try to spend in Lost River.

Jason purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Jason chose Lost River

Nearly every property in Lost River has a great view, but they are all different. When I was looking at properties, I kept coming back to this house. It sits at the base of large ridge (which in part is why I named the cabin Base Camp), while still having great views of the valley and surrounding mountains. I remember walking into the the house for the first time and thinking, "this is awesome." The main living area was completely open, had wide plank pine floors, and the kitchen had beautiful cherry craftsman cabinets.

This cabin is accessible in the winter. During my property search, I rented a couple different cabins on the weekends that I came out to look at houses and quickly discovered that during the winter months, some of the properties are difficult to access, even with four wheel drive vehicles.

Base Camp is the perfect retreat due to its views and location. It is secluded, but close to enough to the main road into Lost River, trails, and restaurants).

Loved loved loved!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful long weekend in a beautiful cabin which was stocked with all the comforts of home. The owner was responsive and very helpful in providing recommendations for places to visit in nearby cities. You can tell he has taken the time to think of hospitable touches to make you feel at home. We do plan to visit again in the spring...although the snow provided a picturesque background to a perfect relaxing weekend. Thank you Jason!

Wonderful weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

Jason's cabin was a wonderful getaway for us for the weekend. It was meticulously clean and tastefully decorated. We actually couldn't stop commenting on the decorating, we loved it. The kitchen had about everything you could think of (literally) and sometimes more than one of something. It was so nice having towels, hand towels, paper towels, and napkins provided - you don't always get that when renting places from vrbo but it was a nice touch. You can tell the owner loves to cook (and bake) and we do too, so we appreciated it all.

The living room had a small sectional in it that was comfortable enough to fit the two of us when we wanted to lounge around (which we did a lot of because we stayed in January). There are a few other chairs in the living room but they are not super comfy, so if you are going with more than 2 people when it's cold out, just know that there is not as much space to spread out inside in the common area. The outside though is a completely different story - there are plenty of options on the decks to sit, lounge, and spread out. We definitely want to come back when the weather is warmer to take advantage of the awesome outside space. The only thing that could possibly make the outside space even better would be a hot tub!

The general store was closed because it's their off-season, but we were able to speak to the owner, who was in there doing inventory. Great people. We are looking forward to going back to get some lunch there when they are open. There's a state park close by that has a lot of recreational activities, and the town of Wardensville isn't far with some cute shops and a farmer's market.

I think one of the best features about this cabin is the owner. His customer service was great, he was always responsive, and you can tell he really cares about his place and he wants guests to have a wonderful time. Thanks, Jason, for sharing your wonderful place. We will definitely be back.

Even nice than you expected.

  • 5 of 5

Based on the reviews and photographs I expected that this would be a nice place to stay, but it was even nicer than anticipated. The cabin was clean and well cared for. The owner did a great job of anticipating your needs, from the binoculars to the extra blankets to the marionette to the provisioned kitchen. The owner was also particularly responsive, answering inquiries promptly and providing excellent recommendations. Definitely 5 star.

Amazing stay and holiday to remember!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the holidays with family who have a small farmhouse in Mathias and this cabin in Lost River was perfectly located and provided us with the extra space we needed. We had 3 adults and 2 teenagers but the cabin never felt crowded or small. The layout is perfect for family gatherings and also has many spaces for quieter moments if we had too much togetherness! The kitchen had absolutely everything we needed, there was plenty of seating in the dining area, the beds were comfortable, there were games and movies to entertain, the water was always hot for showers, the three full baths were a bonus present with so many people in one home, the rocking chairs by the fireplace always beckoned us to sit for a few (or many!) moments and every aspect of the cabin was just so warm and inviting. It exceeded all of our expectations in every way. In fact, our 13 year old son didn't want to leave to visit family! And that's just the interior. The cabin is nestled in the woods only a few miles from the main highway which made travel to and from the area a breeze. We hiked the trail just off the cabin's front porch to the top of the hill and were rewarded with spectacular views and one night we ate sugar cookies by the fire outside. Even in winter, the cabin was a delight inside and out. It was relaxing, refreshing and peaceful. I can't imagine anyone anxious to leave!

The communication from Jason was superb. He quickly and thoroughly answered all of our questions, was available to us by phone, text or email and even called to check in on us during our stay. There were clear and easy to follow instructions for checking in well before we arrived and once we were there we found a welcoming packet that detailed things to know during our stay, details for how to check out and maps and information about local events, landmarks and businesses. We truly felt welcomed and cared for before, during and after our stay. We had a very special time during our visit, created many wonderful memories at the cabin and will always be grateful for our Christmas in West Virginia. Thank you, Jason, for a holiday and stay to remember!
