Lost River Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom Log Home with Mountain Valley Views on 10 acres.

Base Camp provides a comfortable and stylish interior with wide open living spaces, high ceilings, and wrap around covered and screened porches. The cabin features a well appointed gourmet kitchen, gas fireplace, outdoor shower, commercial outdoor grill and an outdoor fire pit. Base Camp offers guests two beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with adjoining bathrooms. The master bedroom features a queen bed with a Tempur-Pedic mattress. The attached bathroom includes a walk in shower with a rainfall shower head and double sinks. The second bedroom features a queen bed, sitting area with a twin sleeper sofa and its own private attached bathroom. Both bedroom bathrooms were completely remodeled in 2016.

The Kitchen: I am here just shy of full time, therefore the kitchen is kept well-stocked with cookware, bakeware, and pantry items. Pantry items provided include coffee filters, general baking items like (sugar, flour, cornstarch, baking powder and soda), basic spices, and cooking spray. In addition to the basics, the kitchen is equipped with a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, professional waffle maker, and a Ninja blender.

Base Camp is the perfect retreat due to its views and location. It is secluded, but close to enough to the main road into Lost River, trails, and restaurants. The cabin is less than a mile from the Lost River Yoga Barn and LR General Store. Less than 5 minutes from the Lost River Grill, and Guesthouse Lost River, 15 minutes from the town of Wardensville with the Lost River Brewing Company, Lost River Trading Post and several other quaint shops. Explore the new Lost River Farmer’s Market on weekends, at the big red building on SR 259, just 2 miles away. Hike nearby Lost River State Park Cranny Crow Trail or George Washington National Forest. Whatever your plans, allow Base Camp to be your Lost River home away from home.

Teets Cattle Company has now opened a Meat Market in the Lost River Barn! All Natural Farm Raised, Corn Fed Beef. Aged 21 Days and Federally Inspected and packaged. They are open Fridays and weekends till 6 pm. Check out Teets Cattle Company on Facebook.

About Jason

I call Lost River, WV home. I'm here just shy of full time. I work as a nurse at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital three days a week, the other four I spend in Lost River.

Jason purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Jason chose Lost River

Nearly every property in Lost River has a great view, but they are all different. When I was looking at properties, I kept coming back to this house. It sits at the base of large ridge (which in part is why I named the cabin Base Camp), while still having great views of the valley and surrounding mountains. I remember walking into the the house for the first time and thinking, "this is awesome." The main living area was completely open, had wide plank pine floors, and the kitchen had beautiful cherry craftsman cabinets.

This cabin is accessible in the winter. During my property search, I rented a couple different cabins on the weekends that I came out to look at houses and quickly discovered that during the winter months, some of the properties are difficult to access, even with four wheel drive vehicles.

Base Camp is the perfect retreat due to its views and location. It is secluded, but close to enough to the main road into Lost River, trails, and restaurants).

Great Get-a-Way, Almost Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent the Thanksgiving weekend at the cabin. From the moment we pulled into the driveway and saw the cabin I knew it was exactly what we were looking for. Just lie most people we went thru the entire cabin to see if the place actually looked like the pictures, it did only better! The rooms were very well decorated but comfortable at the same time. The open concept living, dining, and kitchen area allowed us to all have some space bet yet still be altogether. The bedrooms were very comfortable with each having their own bathroom was really great.

On the outside the decks surrounding the entire cabin offered great views and their was seating on the entire deck. We enjoy the screened in deck. Even though it was late November the weather was mild enough for us to spend sometime on the porch enjoying some wine or coffee. We also enjoyed the large fire pit. We spent most evenings by it staying warm and looking up at the stars, no noise or light pollution at the cabin.

Finally, the kitchen is very, very well equipped. We were able to prepare an entire Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings and we never needed anything, the kitchen had it all!

Oever all we had a wonderful time and we would highly recommend that you consider the cabin for your next time away!

Spoiled in the Mountains

Jason has done a wonderful job with this cabin. The location overlooks a valley that is incredible! It makes you want to wake up as early as you can just to hear everything wake up and see the sunrise. At night, clear skies reveal the galaxy and allows for marvelous stargazing. That's just the location. Jason has thought of everything and makes staying at this cabin as comfortable as possible. The open kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, Every utensil and appliance is within easy reach with plenty of counter space. The bedrooms were so comfortable, that you wanted to go to bed early after a long hike just to get that great night sleep. Whether your stay is a short or a long one, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

It is like visiting a friend

  • 5 of 5

Base Camp reflects the owners love for this cabin. We visited Base Camp a weekend ago, at the height of the fall foliage in West Virginia. It is an easy ride from DC as we reached the cabin in just two hours. On arrival we all observed how quaint it was, well positioned between the trees, and the neat and well kept house already impressed from the outside.

The way the cabin is stocked, with everything you need for a good relaxing weekend in the woods, the care that was taken with the instructions, and the way everything is neatly stored in cupboards and storage areas where you would expect it, contributed to the feeling of being at home. From the well equipped kitchen, to the several seating arrangements on the deck (and the screened porch) that surrounds the cabin, at both levels, all made it so easy just to switch off and forget the hustle and bustle of city life. We especially liked the bird feeders and the many winged visitors, just a continuous stream of activity.

In the evenings we did a braai (yes, that is what we call a barbecue in South Africa) and once again the equipment, outside and inside were all there to make it easy and enjoyable. The way the house is stocked and equipped make you feel that you are at a friends place, not renting. The open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area contributes to the inviting and inclusive atmosphere.

A good example of the continuous thoughtful instructions was whenever you had a question about using equipment, and you may wonder how to operate it, you should just pause, and there will be a neat short instruction attached exactly where you were looking. So intuitive and thoughtful. We enjoyed it, felt at home and enjoyed the cabin, the setting and the vicinity. We will be back.

Fantastic Weekend Away From it All

  • 5 of 5

Base Camp is a wonderful place to completely unplug. The linens were luxurious and the cabin was very thoughtfully appointed. If you must leave during the day, there's a general store and barn at the bottom of the hill where you can pick up some steak (or other Teet's meat of choice- lamb?) for dinner. Recommend you bring several bottles of wine, maybe a book or puzzle, your dogs, and your favorite people and just enjoy the surroundings and each other. Thank you, Jason- we can't say enough good things about your beautiful home away from home.
