This was my first time ever renting a home instead of staying in hotels while we traveled. To say I was nervous is an understatement. I was looking for a true relaxing experience while we visited Acadia, and I this house provided us that. First and foremost, Tim was very accommodating and understanding of the many questions I had regarding the rental process. In my first email to Tim, I told him that I had never rented a home before and within five minutes I got a phone call. He did everything he could to calm my nervousness, which I appreciated tremendously. I knew from that point I was dealing with a legit homeowner. Even at the last moment, he allowed me to add my small dog to our trip when I initially thought I would be leaving him with family. The property was a perfect size for our party. We traveled with four adults, three teenagers, a three-year-old, and my dog. The two couples each had the same size master bedrooms, so no flipping of a coin was needed, and the teenagers shared a room with ample space and their own beds. We really appreciated the multiple bathrooms when it came time to get ready.
The house itself was stocked with more than what we needed to get by. It had everything! I kept saying to myself how much money I saved by not having to buy all those items that made our stay so comfortable. I have officially been converted to a home renter in my travels!
The area of the rental was central to all the great things the island had to offer. In my initial search, I thought we had to stay in Bar Harbor to be around all the action. I am SO GLAD we did not! We visited Bar Harbor for one day but it was such a busy place that we never went back. It was just full of shops. Besides, all the fun stuff was around us. We visited all the great spots: Jordans Pond, Cadillac Mountain, The Carriage Trail, etc, but also got to go on a deep sea fishing adventure where the captain pulled up lobster pots and gave everyone on board a lobster. We did our fair share of relaxing too. It was very convenient that just a short walk from the house was a quaint little Main Street with stores full of everything we could need. Also, there was a Walmart and a Shaws a short drive away. We ate out sometimes but also made good use of the BBQ grill on the property. Our last day we decided to explore the SouthWest Harbor. I am so glad we did because we got a chance to take a kayaking trip on Long Pond at sunset. I told Tim we will DEF be back again! THANKS TIM AND FAMILY!
Acadia has always been one of my favorite places, so it was a treat to bring my family for their first visit. Northeast Harbor has just the right balance of quietness, quaintness, friendliness, and ease of living after spending days exploring and hiking. The park and the other side of the island were both easily accessible. Town is just a couple of blocks away with everything you need, including a couple of places with great food and baked goods. The larger grocery store in Bar Harbor is only 15 minutes away. This brightly colored, comfortable and well-equipped cottage was the perfect place to call home. We loved the timber framing, the large kitchen, the spacious rooms, and especially the covered porch & outdoor eating area where we could linger over breakfast and morning coffee. The owners, who were onsite, were extremely hospitable and helpful with anything we needed, including recommendations for places a little off the beaten path. Many thanks to the owners for making our visit to Acadia such a special one with their hospitality and friendship. We hope to be back for a longer visit next time!
We are so very pleased with the stay in Northeast Harbor just at the outskirts of Acadia National Park. The unit was very clean on arrival, more than I have seen in other holiday rental apartments and houses, which both added to our level of comfort throughout the stay and attests to the care the owner puts into the property. When there were small issues, such as running out of gas for the grill, the owner was there to replace the gas within minutes. This to me is the great benefit of renting from someone on site--it is an extra buffer to insure things go well during your too-short holiday time. The beds were comfortable and showers were never short on hot water. The kitchen was perfect for making meals for the 7 of us (two small families). The proximity to the back door of Acadia both gets you to the park easily and also keeps you away from the busier front entrance on the Bar Harbor side of the park. Northeast Harbor provides all the basics you need for a good stay, and you are about a 10-15 mile ride from larger grocery stores. There is an elementary school across the street with a playground, baseball and soccer fields, great for running around at the end of the day of you have kids and with very little traffic at night, again perfect to enjoy the peace and quiet of the area yet close to so many activities. It could not have been a more pleasant stay. We look forward to coming back!
Our family likes to visit Acadia National Park to renew and refresh. We enjoy the scenic paths, the Jordan Pond nature trail or Mr. Rockefeller's Carriage Roads with meticulous stonework bridges and vistas of glacial lakes and the Atlantic shore line. We visit in July or August and enjoy perfect Maine summer days. There are opportunities for hiking, biking and kayaking while taking in the best in natural and manmade beauty. Close by is Thuya Gardens whose borders in August are in full bloom. Vacation days are filled with experiences that make you want to pull up your stakes and move to Maine! We are fortunate to have found this Northeast Harbor cottage to return to after our days of outdoor activities. Loon Crossing is a solidly constructed home, cheerful, with brightly painted rooms located within walking distance to Northeast Harbor's main street. It is a short distance to Brown Mountain Gatehouse for carriage road access. Within walking distance, there is a small local market for a few groceries and a bottle of wine or
a local restaurant for a lobster roll. The big shop, however is best accomplished in Bar Harbor. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. The property is clean, organized and well supplied. I am grateful for the hospitality the owners have extended to us and would highly recommend this Northeast Harbor cottage.
