About owner/property manager

The Smiths purchased the first tract of the farm in 2006 and added to it with the cabin property in 2013 when the owner's decided to sell to move their operation closer to the highway. The cabin property was owned by an animal rescue operation that cared for abandoned pets. The cabin was the caretaker home and kennels provided dog housing facilities. The owner's office is now in the kennel building along with occasional poultry and small animals.

Why owner/property manager chose Jamestown

The owners live on the far side of the property from the cabin. We love living here as this farm provides the setting we have always longed for; privacy, beautiful nature to include the trees and creeks, wildlife, peace and quiet. Our children return frequently with the grandkids to hunt, ride dirtbikes, play in the creeks, sled, relaxing on the front porch, and enjoy the wonders of the farm. We have truly found our little slice of heaven and hope our guests find the peace and tranquility during their stays that we have been blessed with enjoying everyday.

What makes this cabin unique

We were delighted to buy this property as it is the perfect compliment to the property we already owned and live on. The cabin offers privacy and views of the wildlife that frequently pass through the area.

What a wonderful place for peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

I'm so grateful for this wonderful find that my wife and I got to enjoy. At the end of a 2 mile drive on a gravel road you'll find a clean, well-furnished, comfortable cabin on a well-maintained property. It's nestled in a small valley so you're surrounded by wooded hills. At night the sky is alive with stars, as there's no light pollution. The owners do not live on the immediate property and are very respectful of your privacy. We easily made a day-trip to Kansas City (2 hour drive) and got back to enjoy a wonderful evening. We could just as easily have made the same trip to St Louis (about the same drive time). Nearby Columbia and Fulton (with the National Churchill Museum) have lots to see and enjoy as well. We would happily stay here again.

Quiet retreat in the woods

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 5 and 3 dogs stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. Everyone, even our difficult to please 14 year old enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Being able to unplug was a key thing we were looking for. Camping experience yet not actually camping. Although we did make a few trips up the hill for cell service, it was so nice to enjoy each other's company without the distraction of devices.

The cabin had all the basic necessities and was nicely decorated. Nothing too fancy which was a relief to me since we had brought our 3 dogs. Definitely bring an inflatable mattress or cot if you plan to sleep more than 4 people. We had a little problem arriving during a huge rainstorm, but we made the mistake of trusting GPS rather than the clear directions provided by the owners. Finding the place at night was never a problem. All the street signs are clearly marked. My only complaint was the state of some of the cookware. We will bring some of our own on our next visit.

The kids enjoyed hiking the trails and exploring the creek across the street. We counted only one car passing the entire 3 days we were there. So nice to have the place to ourselves. The dogs may have enjoyed themselves the most. We are certain that they will be over the top excited the next time we stay here. We have considered buying land in the future but with a great place to rent, this seems like a great alternative.

All in all, a great stay with gorgeous scenery. We look forward to staying here again and exploring more around the area!

Great Potential

  • 2 of 5

If you are looking for a quite setting surrounded by wilderness, this is the place. Basic amenities are provided. Owner of 3 VRBO's myself, I have many suggestions. There were many dead an living bugs and spiders - I suggest a thorough cleaning and spraying. The carpet needs replacement as is in pieces that are taped down in areas and can be a trip hazard. It was very hard to find as GPS takes you to the wrong location and there is no phone service near the turn off. We eventually found it during the day, but when returning at night, it took us 45 mintues to find again. Signage would be most helpful.

Nice quiet retreat

  • 4 of 5

The rental was very clean and spacious for two people. We also chose this rental because they allowed our three dogs to come with us for our stay. It was a cute little house and the complimentary bottle of wine was thoroughly enjoyed! It did rain/storm the whole time we were there and couldn't get any service on our phone to check the radar. They had a weather radar there that would automatically kick on and I felt safe knowing what was going on. There was plenty room to wonder around on the property but due to the weather, we didn't leave the cabin. The only downside to this home is that there are people living next to the cabin and that was unexpected. The Shed behind the house in the photos had someone there all weekend.

Thank you for this nice quiet retreat from the city!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay and sorry the weather did not work out for getting outdoors. Our son does live in an apartment in the dog kennel building. He is usually away during the week working and weekends travelling for motorcycle racing series. He would have been gone all weekend but the rain cancelled his race. I hope it was not too much of an inconvenience and we will see you again!
