A little gem in a perfect location
Just returned from a wonderful week staying in this lovely house in Aigues Morte with my husband, my brother and his wife.
We had visited Aigues Mortes before but the opportunity to stay 'intra-mural' was too good to miss so we booked, I am pleased to say that everything lived up to our expectations and the description on the website.
Arranging the booking and the payment with the owner was smooth and simple, they were friendly and courteous and happy to answer my questions. The same high standard of customer service was experienced in France, where the local agent was helpful, friendly and easy to contact when necessary.
The house was clean and well maintained with everything we needed for a great holiday; visiting in August we made alot of use of the quiet, secluded courtyard for mealtimes and a little sunbathing and welcomed the air-conditioning in the bedrooms.
Aigues Morte is a picturesque town with great restaurants, cafes, bars and shops - all of these were literally on our doorstep, aswell as some great festivals and markets to enjoy without having to take the car out.
Everywhere you go you can buy local produce, from the superb wine and cheeses, to juicy fruit and honey and not forgetting the wonderful bull products (for the meat-eaters) - all of which are well worth a try!!
On the days we left the town, we went to the beach at Stes Maries de la Mer or visited historic attractions such as Arles, Les Baux de Provence, etc - all in easy driving distance, and accessed via the beautiful Camargue countryside.
We love this region of France and I would recommend this property to couples or families who are either looking for a perfect base to explore the area or just seeking out a relaxing get-away with first-class facilities within easy walking distance.
We can't wait to go back!
Lovely authentic old inner-wall old town home, needs a bit of TLC tho to be spectacular
We had a great time staying here... that is, after the kinks of housing 4 kids and two adults in a small 3 story home with pleasant bed rooms were worked out. The house is very nice, and has great amenities all around. However, if you stay here, ask in advance that the plumbing, the electricity, and the air conditioning are all in good working order.
Also the home is quite dusty and a bit dirty, but overall it's just fine for the price. Indeed, the house is a good value. The patio is large and wonderful, but overrun by weeds and bird droppings, so outside needs some TLC as well.
The 2nd story master bedroom has a great patio and clothesline overlooking the 1st floor patio, which we enjoyed. If the beds had nicer quality cotton sheets, they would be much more comfortable, but the mattresses were good. Plenty of clean towels - which was great, nice working showers, a small washing machine, and a great fridge too - all very useful, and many many movies and books on hand was cool. The one thing that was kind of a bummer was that we found bikes in the garage, but no key to unlock them to use them. Richard, the house manager, is very easy to get a hold of too.
The walled town of Aigues Mortes is, of course, a gem. The 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house is brilliant, located in a quiet street, only yards (metres) away from the lively square, shops, galleries everything you could want. The house is clean and well equipped. Car parking is available, at a small price, and wi-fi works well.
Thank you very much for your kind words. We are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday.
A wonderful place
We have had a wonderful time at the house and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. Everything we needed was available and the property manager Richard was very helpful. The kids had a great time, and they loved spending time at the beach and at the water sports. The only thing that we could complain about was the weather on a few days but there were videos and games to keep them occupied. Thank you again for the use of your home.
Thank you for choosing our house and for your kind comments
AIGUES MORTES DELIGHT
A really charming house with 4 good bedrooms, and two good bathrooms. The living area on the ground floor works well, for me the highlight was the wonderful courtyard garden, perfect for enjoying the sun during the day and delightful for dinner in the evening. Loads of space generally in the house and attractively decorated. Absolutely nothing to criticise.
Aigues Mortes is a magical atmosphere with many restaurants, shops and galleries and there are fascinating towns and sights quite nearby like Avignon, Arles, Nimes, the Pont du Gard etc. The Camargue is full of mystery, with white horses, black bulls and flamingoes.
The coast has huge beaches easy to access, the beach to the West of Les Saintes Maries de La Mer has particularly good restaurant cafes on the beach itself.
Prepare to put on a kilo or two with the excellent local food and wine. Unusually well served by airports, with Montpellier, Nimes, Avignon and Marseilles.
There is public transport but either hire a car before you set off to collect at whichever airport you use. The excellent high speed TGV train network serves the big towns and the station usually have hire car companies on site.
aigues mortes Sept 2011
great location in centre of town. much more choice of restaurants than expected. plenty with reasonable prix fixe menus. very comfortable house although staircase is steep and narrow which caused a bit of a worry with young children. Parking outside city walls is close by, but the permit is 35 euros per week which is not mentioned in the description. Communication with owner was limited and needed chasing to confirm that payments had been received. Local agent was helpful and responded to all calls. House would benefit from a small information pack e.g. rubbish collection, info for local beach etc. Neighbours seemed a bit grumpy complaining about noise in the garden and shouting over the walls at us. This was at 8.30 pm with 3 over 40's adults having a conversation over dinner. Not exactly a wild party. Overall though, very enjoyable holiday and will definately return to the area.
Positioned in the stunning countryside of the Carmargue (South of France), sits a beautiful period town house within the ramparts of the dramatic medieval town of Aigues Mortes, on the Canal du Rhone-Sete. This beautiful location boasts some of the most spectacular scenery, wildlife, food and wine in France. Arles, Nimes, Montpellier, Avignon, Marseille are all nearby and within easy reach, as are Carcassone, Sete and Agde. You can visit Greco-Roman remains; shop in some of the best districts in France; visit the local art galleries; eat the fresh seafood by the Mediterranean; drink some of the excellent regional wines in France such as Château Neuf du Pape; see the medieval history of Europe in Avignon at the Palace of the Popes; experience Cathar country and the hill villages or wander the seaside towns of Sete, Agde or the Camargue. Golf: For golf lovers there are a number of excellent courses in the area, the nearest a 10 minute drive away in Le Grande Motte. This is a public course and tee times can be organised through their website or by telephone. There are a further 5 golf courses within 35km of the property. Ski: In the winter months it is possible to drive the 1 and a half hours to the ski slopes of the Pyrenees for a day in the snow!
