Southeast Carmel Estate Rental Photos and Description

Estate Property, Main house 3+3, (Sleeps 6), and Guest Cottage 1+1 (Sleeps 4)

A charming and eloquently designed contemporary craftsman home and humble cottage on a secluded estate. With the help of a Feng Shui master, our home has been designed to keep your Chi in tact! This Carmel getaway provides privacy, beauty, and plenty of outdoor spaces, while still being walking distance to the shops and restaurants of downtown. Hiking trails and the Forest Theatre are also just a stones throw away from this special hideaway. Enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature from this one of a kind retreat, backing up to the forested beauty of Carmel's Mission Creek.

This peaceful setting features views of the Carmel Forest, sounds of the babbling Mission Creek, distant crashing waves, and numerous song birds to sooth your spirits. Vaulted ceilings, fireplaces in the master and living room, and a handmade spiral staircase are just a few features that make this home special. This 3 bedroom, 3 bath home is on .6 acre lot in Carmel's Mission Creek area. Stairs from the street / garage level lead down to expansive brick patios and entrance to the main living area: large entry with sitting area around fireplace, expansive living room area with built in window seats for panoramic views of forest and tile and maple wood floors throughout, dining area separated from kitchen over a service bar, kitchen with gas range, refrigerator, and tile counters. One guest bedroom and bath (tub/shower) are also on this level. Upstairs is the master suite with fireplace, balcony, en suite bath with jacuzzi tub and shower over; and third suite with balcony and en suite bath (shower). All 3 bathrooms are elegantly designed and oversized with stone tile floors and counters.

We welcome a maximum number of six guests (including children) in the main house and 2-4 in the 'optional' guest cottage which is located across a cute little bricked breezeway adjacent to the main house.

After a challenging day of shopping, beach-going, golfing, or dining, this special home is perfect for relaxation and recharging for your next day's adventure! Surrounded by the forest and the sounds of nature, this is truly a special place!

There is driveway (on a hill) parking for one normal size SUV vehicle and additional on-street parking 150-200' away on Forest Rd.

Sorry, NO SMOKING and NO PETS (no matter how small or trained).

Note, the cottage will not be rented to other guests and is not available to guests unless the cottage option was booked during the reservation process.

The experience!

Get away in luxury amongst the redwoods and oaks. Picnic in your own private nature sanctuary. Enjoy a monarch butterfly dance. Listen to the distant elephant seal calls or the trickle from babbling creek below. Watch the wildlife pass by. You may see the red fox come out to play. See the moonlight imprint evanescent shadows of oaks onto natures canvas. Ponder a stroll to the ocean. Walk to town for coffee, shopping, Art Gallery strolling, exquisite cuisine,or simply stay in and unwind. Walk out the back door a few steps to the Mission Trails for a Gorgeous Nature Hike. If you are looking to clear your mind, this is the place to do it!

Beautiful quiet home with spacious rooms

  • 5 of 5

This house is a real jewel. It is located at the edge of the mission trail. A great walking loop is down the trail to the Mission, then Santa Lucia to Scenic Rd into town. The house was clean, modern and spacious. Parking is about 100 yes away on the street unless you park on a steep slope in front of the garage- but it was no problem. The patios are big and private, looking over the woods. The house was better than described, making my first rental through VRBO a success. i highly recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful home with an amazing backyard & patio that we used every night this enjoy dinners outdoors

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us for a great family vacation! We walked or biked everywhere in town and to the beach easily from your home -- all except my 86 yo mother who we needed to drive due to the hills around your home---but that is also true of Carmel in general downtown. On my he other hand, my much more fit 83 yo father did just fine walking to town from your home, and he liked the challenging exercise! The ability to all gather together every evening and sit outside in the spacious seating and enjoy the back yard while eating dinners together was a highlight of our trip! And there was family of raccoons (and many playful squirrels) that live in the nearby forest, and we loved watching them with their three babies scamper around seemingly unnoticed. Wonderful home! Great location! Thank you again! We would love to come back one day!

Relaxing stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house was charming and the owner was very helpful with his directions and email responses. The parking was not a problem--and worth it, as the great location allowed me to park the car, stow the car keys, and take charming, easy walks to the market, the beach, the nature area, and into town. Something for everyone to enjoy! The outdoor areas were a great place to have our meals; and we had fun playing Clue, which we bought at the local toy store, in the Jungle room. I do recommend finding the house in daylight, as it is located on a spur of 8th, and at the end of the little road. We had such a sense of privacy, even in a residential area. The house was very welcoming and we really appreciated the little touches- fresh flowers on the table and a bowl of mandarins to start off our stay. The plug-in air fresheners were a bit much, but we unplugged those. The days went by too quickly-we hope to return in the future. We recommend Bruno's Market for sandwiches and groceries. Very friendly staff and great food/wine selection. Our trip to Pfieffer State Beach was a treat as well.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

  • 5 of 5

My little family of 5 had a lovely time just relaxing around this beautiful home and enjoying the gardens and peaceful sounds. Although the home is really nice and modern for Carmel standards, we cooked and ordered our meals but ate most of them outside using a different spot each night. We had asked the owner about dining out side and noise before we booked. The owner kindly told us about numerous places to order great take-out and about the myriad of places they have setup for outdoor dining. They just recently added a deck so guests could relax, eat and listen to waves crashing as the sound is funneled through Carmel Mission Creek. It's amazing! We walked to town and and even bought groceries at Brunos. We made one mistake which I'll pass-on; We flew into Monterey airport which was perfect but we picked up a rental car. Once we parked, we never had to to drive it again and the airport is literally only 10 min max away. We'll definitely be back!

Peaceful woodland retreat

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home, well suited to our needs. On arrival parking appeared to be interesting, as the allocated parking space was on a fairly steep slope, but providing you follow the instructions to reverse in, this was fairly easy to master. The pictures accurately portray the property. We enjoyed sitting in the garden for lunch, especially when it was sunny. Easy short walk to the local shops and restaurants. The property backs on to the Mission Trail, which is a great place for hiking. We would highly recommend this property, and if we return to Carmel, would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful location, difficult to find...

  • 3 of 5

The good: This home is nestled beautifully into a tree filled ravine with lots of great patio space. The home was nice & clean. We loved the 3 bedroom/3 bathroom layout for our group. The bad: The home didn't feel that welcoming to us. Notes were left to remove shoes and not let our luggage hit the walls (we always use care with the homes we rent, just seeing these little notes made us not feel very welcome). The biggest challenge was getting in and out of the home, via car. The home sits at the bottom of a very steep, crooked street with cars parked along the side. The only way to get a vehicle down the street is to back down, and leave your car outside of the garage (there is no driveway). These logistics made it very difficult to unload/load, with one vehicle let alone multiple.

Owner's Response: Nicole, we appreciate your kind comments regarding our home but feel we should address each and everyone of your comments. Lets start breaking down your feedback. To start, "the home is hard to find". Well, try finding some of carmel's best galleries. That is the charm of carmel and what makes it so unique and attractive. Our home is secluded as described. But with that said, we include detailed directions in an arrival package that is sent to our guests 8-10 days prior to their stay. This package includes an over-the-top detailed description of property and it's location including printable property layout diagrams. Thus, I'm not sure how I can improve on this point "hard to find". Most people go there for this reason sorry you don't feel that way. "There's no driveway and parking is on a steep hill". You are correct but you are stating fact or what's in our VRBO property description. Your comments sound like we hid something from you and that's a pity because we take pride in getting our beautiful home ready to exceed our guest's expectations. It's not a typical home or property and it takes a lot of effort by a crew of people to get it ready. Perhaps the most insensitive comment we've heard to date was your comment about our politely worded inconspicuous signs stating "Please use luggage racks located in closet". We try our best to make sure there's a good fit with our guests but the truth is we don't really know them most of the time and we end up with an entire spectrum of guests. Unfortunately we've had guests that have treated our home like a hotel room and others that left it cleaner than they arrived (not at all necessary) and everything in between. We need and have to protect our home so we can share our jewel with many future guests and our few little requests are merely requests for guests that prefer and need them. Sorry but we cannot see how they are offensive to begin with let alone give you reason to describe our home as not warm or welcoming. Finally, and for those of your reading this response our home is not located in a ravine but in an alcove of the beautiful Mission Creek Forest. We welcome and encourage people to ask questions about the property during the booking process to help ensure a good fit.
