This Carmel getaway provides privacy, beauty, and plenty of outdoor spaces, while still being walking distance to the shops and restaurants of downtown. Hiking trails and the Forest Theatre are also just a stones throw away from this special hideaway. Enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature from this one of a kind retreat, backing up to the forested beauty of Carmel's Mission Creek.
This peaceful setting features views of the Carmel Forest, sounds of the babbling Mission Creek, distant crashing waves, and numerous song birds to sooth your spirits. Vaulted ceilings, fireplaces in the master and living room, and a handmade spiral staircase are just a few features that make this home special. This 3 bedroom, 3 bath home is on .6 acre lot in Carmel's Mission Creek area. Stairs from the street / garage level lead down to expansive brick patios and entrance to the main living area: large entry with sitting area around fireplace, expansive living room area with built in window seats for panoramic views of forest and tile and maple wood floors throughout, dining area separated from kitchen over a service bar, kitchen with gas range, refrigerator, and tile counters. One guest bedroom and bath (tub/shower) are also on this level. Get away in luxury amongst the redwoods and oaks. Picnic in your own private nature sanctuary. Enjoy a monarch butterfly dance. Listen to the distant elephant seal calls or the trickle from babbling creek below. Watch the wildlife pass by. You may see the red fox come out to play. See the moonlight imprint evanescent shadows of oaks onto natures canvas. Ponder a stroll to the ocean. Walk to town for coffee, shopping, Art Gallery strolling, exquisite cuisine,or simply stay in and unwind. Walk out the back door a few steps to the Mission Trails for a Gorgeous Nature Hike. If you are looking to clear your mind, this is the place to do it!
The house and setting is beautiful. We had the the most awesome time staying at this house, and cannot wait to come back. If you like walking it's a delight and refreshing.
This house is a real jewel. It is located at the edge of the mission trail. A great walking loop is down the trail to the Mission, then Santa Lucia to Scenic Rd into town. The house was clean, modern and spacious. Parking is about 100 yes away on the street unless you park on a steep slope in front of the garage- but it was no problem. The patios are big and private, looking over the woods. The house was better than described, making my first rental through VRBO a success. i highly recommend it to anyone.
We were two families who shared the house for a Thanksgiving holiday who loved this place. The house is spacious and comfortable and very tastefully adorned with art and artifacts of world travel. There is a terrific glass and wood dining table, Calligaris from Italy, that looks small in the photos but expands to easily seat 8. Nice kitchen with plenty of pots and pans and dishes for cooking and dining, which we did except for one dinner out to Il Tegamino in town, about a half mile away. The 3 bedrooms are nice, each with bathroom. The king suite has gas fireplace, large bathroom, great window views into the woods, and tons of space. Living space in with very cool recessed rim lighting and unique oval and round windows, a fireplace, and big screen TV with satelite and wifi. The house feels like a home which flows outdoors to the spacious grounds, and you feel private and privileged. The mission trail is on Mission Creek which runs (well, trickles) through the back yard and goes down the old mission passing some coastal redwoods. Hiked all of Point Lobos one day, drove and hiked Big Sur the next, went to the Aquarium another day, and generally got a good feel of the area. Highly recommend this home. Loved our stay.
The directions are easy if you follow them and the steep driveway is no problem if you back down to it. It was a wet road on arrival and I found headfirst required me to back out, up hill, with no weight on rear wheels and I spun out a bit. Backing down allows you to drive out forward and zero problem. A second car does need to park on the street at the end of the block, but it is clearly necessary and no big deal.
The setting is really unique for being so close to downtown Carmel; quite tranquil. Our overall impression of the house was a bit mixed. The kitchen could use some updating, like a dishwasher and some basic needs for those who like to prepare meals. We couldn't find a bread knife or baking pans but there were three coffee makers (!). It would also be nice to have extra paper towels and garbage bags; we bought more at the store. The TV in the family room has a green line going down the center, indicating that it's probably going out. If you are going to charge people for linens, a mandatory separate insurance policy, and a cleaning charge, you should build those into the quoted price; otherwise any price comparison isn't equitable. It should be advertised as a 3 bedroom 3 bath for the minimum per night, since the 1 bedroom 1 bath cottage is an additional charge. All the mattresses are very firm, noisy beds; every mattress squeaked (springs?) with the slightest movement. Our family did enjoy our stay, but since it appears that Steve wants to know about his place, we felt it was appropriate that he know about the items we have noted.
We had a great stay at this home. The location was good for walking to town. It is a little dated, as are the majority of the homes in Carmel. Great outdoor area to enjoy dinner and then drinks by the fire. Home is very quiet and great separation for privacy. Parking is annoying but fine for one car. We loved being near the big park, great for walks and hikes.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us for a great family vacation! We walked or biked everywhere in town and to the beach easily from your home -- all except my 86 yo mother who we needed to drive due to the hills around your home---but that is also true of Carmel in general downtown. On my he other hand, my much more fit 83 yo father did just fine walking to town from your home, and he liked the challenging exercise! The ability to all gather together every evening and sit outside in the spacious seating and enjoy the back yard while eating dinners together was a highlight of our trip! And there was family of raccoons (and many playful squirrels) that live in the nearby forest, and we loved watching them with their three babies scamper around seemingly unnoticed. Wonderful home! Great location! Thank you again! We would love to come back one day!
The house was charming and the owner was very helpful with his directions and email responses. The parking was not a problem--and worth it, as the great location allowed me to park the car, stow the car keys, and take charming, easy walks to the market, the beach, the nature area, and into town. Something for everyone to enjoy! The outdoor areas were a great place to have our meals; and we had fun playing Clue, which we bought at the local toy store, in the Jungle room. I do recommend finding the house in daylight, as it is located on a spur of 8th, and at the end of the little road. We had such a sense of privacy, even in a residential area. The house was very welcoming and we really appreciated the little touches- fresh flowers on the table and a bowl of mandarins to start off our stay. The plug-in air fresheners were a bit much, but we unplugged those. The days went by too quickly-we hope to return in the future. We recommend Bruno's Market for sandwiches and groceries. Very friendly staff and great food/wine selection. Our trip to Pfieffer State Beach was a treat as well.
