The Last Straw is the perfect family beach cottage! It's all one level with an open floor plan and very spacious! Entering the front door from the large sun deck, you are faced with the large Living Area and Kitchen and Dining Room. Perfect for those family gatherings and meals at the end of the day! There are multiple flat panel televisions and DVD player in the Living Room. There are games and also children's toys in the bunk room to keep the kiddos busy while you adult! Floors are all tile and we welcome your fur babies! You are definitely off the beaten path, but quick and easy beach access is straight down 10th street which runs in front of the house. It is literally a 5 to 7 min walk to the beach walk over! If you want to kayak on the bay, you're 1 block from a Bay Front park where there are covered picnic pavilions, a kayak launch and grilling areas! There are views of the Gulf from the large deck if you grab your chair and kick back looking down 10th street. Grab your favorite beverage and listen to the surf roll in! The house has 4 bedrooms (sleeps 10) and 2 bathrooms. There are 2 Queen bedrooms that share the "Jack and Jill" bath. Both of these bedrooms open onto sun decks and the King bedroom and bunk room are on the other end of the house with the other bath. There is a lovely screened porch on this end of the house that both of these bedrooms open onto which faces natural vegetation for privacy. With 1600 sq feet of living space, there's plenty of room to stretch out and maintain "Island Time!" There is also a 10 by 28 foot boat or motorhome storage area under the house with about an 11 foot clearance. Sorry, there are no hookups for electrical or plumbing for RV's or Campers. There is ample off street parking for four or more vehicles. In the back yard behind the RV parking bay is a "park-style" grill for those burgers and dogs after a long day at the beach! The apartment under the house is used only by the owners storage and not for rental. Please do not try to access the downstairs apartment.

A Merry Christmas

Went on a short Christmas retreat to St. George Island, with family. The house was more than adequate, with lots of open space, a nice deck to relax on, and a very short walk to the beach. The kitchen, which was a necessity, since nothing was open on Christmas day, was perfect for putting on a Christmas dinner, and there were still shrimp available at the local markets, when we arrived Christmas Eve. Best of all, it was just relaxing. A good time was had by all.

Comfortable and spacious.

We enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable and spacious, plenty of room for our group of 8. A big plus was that it was only two blocks from the beautiful beach. Had some concerns about maintenance, trouble with window blinds and a kitchen drawer fell apart. One huge plus is that Sammy was very quick to respond to any calls.

Last. Straw first

We enjoyed the stay. The last straw accommodated our entire family, the young grand kids loved the bunk room, C liff even had some toys on site for them to play with. We got there and the ac would not kick on, within the hour Cliff showed up with the ac tech and got it running. We have been to Myrtle Beach and enjoyed this more, thename forgotten coast is perfect.

Good Value, Plenty of Room, and Quick Walk to the Beach

Our Family of 4 and Dog enjoyed the stay at Last Straw. Quick walk to the public beach access directly down the street. House is dated but clean and well maintained. Outdoor living areas both screened and open are very large We would stay again.

Mixed feelings about this place

I have mixed feelings about this place. The plus is that it was an affordable rental. The linens, pans and dishes were provided, comfortable beds, and it has plenty of space. It is a little worn, but that didn't bother us at all because we had no intention of hanging out in the house all day.

The problem was that it really needs a little maintenance. There were cobwebs above the bathroom mirror, food splatter on the kitchen cabinets, crumbs in the silverware drawers, needs cleaned under furniture, 2 smoke detectors hanging by wires from the ceiling, broken mini-blinds. The washer was not working, which we were not made aware of beforehand. I did contact the property management and they responded immediately and were apologetic and offered to reimburse us if we needed to go to a laundromat.

I hope they address the issues because it would make the place much more comfortable.

Overall, this place was functional and we had a good vacation. St. George Island is an amazing destination!!!

Owner's Response: Hi Anna! So very sorry about the issues you encountered while staying with us at The Last Straw. I went in myself after you departed and cleaned the house so all of the cleaning issues have been remedied. Sometimes in the High Season it's difficult to touch each area every single time but again, my sincerest apologies. I've put the smoke detectors back up with new batteries and tested and the appliance technician has repaired the washer. About Cliff Butler

Cliff has visited the area since his early childhood, first visiting St. George Island shortly after the bridge opened in 1965. He and Denise had their first date on the coast and relocated to the area in 1977 buying a bay front home across the bridge in Eastpoint. Their two daughters grew up enjoying the Island and the surrounding area. Throughout their professional lives, both Denise and Cliff have been active in many aspects of community life in this bit of heaven nicknamed, 'The Forgotten Coast'. As Denise likes to say, 'It was never the Forgotten Coast to us, it's home!'

The opportunity and benefits of owning a vacation rental home on St George Island came together at the right time as we were starting a new phase of our lives. It gives us the opportunity to share what we have enjoyed for so many years with our children, grandchildren, extended family, friends and others we have yet to meet. We plan to use a share of the profits to support nonprofits such as Rotary, Wounded Warrior Project and related organizations.

Observing gorgeous sunrises, sunsets as well as other related weather events are some of the most unique benefits that can be enjoyed while staying at our property. There are many other opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of our area from the beaches to our bay, river and forests. It's fun to watch all the creatures that make their home here. You do not need to even leave the deck to listen to and watch birds or to find the constellations in the night sky. No city lights dim the stars on the island. The home is newly tiled throughout. Open the windows on cool nights and listen to the surf!
