There are multiple flat panel televisions and DVD player in the Living Room. There are games and also children's toys in the bunk room to keep the kiddos busy while you adult! Floors are all tile and we welcome your fur babies! You are definitely off the beaten path, but quick and easy beach access is straight down 10th street which runs in front of the house. If you want to kayak on the bay, you're 1 block from a Bay Front park where there are covered picnic pavilions, a kayak launch and grilling areas! There is a lovely screened porch on this end of the house that both of these bedrooms open onto which faces natural vegetation for privacy. With 1600 sq feet of living space, there's plenty of room to stretch out and maintain "Island Time!" There is also a 10 by 28 foot boat or motorhome storage area under the house with about an 11 foot clearance. Sorry, there are no hookups for electrical or plumbing for RV's or Campers. There is ample off street parking for four or more vehicles. In the back yard behind the RV parking bay is a "park-style" grill for those burgers and dogs after a long day at the beach! The apartment under the house is used only by the owners storage and not for rental. Please do not try to access this area.

About Cliff Butler

Cliff has visited the area since his early childhood, first visiting St. George Island shortly after the bridge opened in 1965. He and Denise had their first date on the coast and relocated to the area in 1977 buying a bay front home across the bridge in Eastpoint. Their two daughters grew up enjoying the Island and the surrounding area. Throughout their professional lives, both Denise and Cliff have been active in many aspects of community life in this bit of heaven nicknamed, 'The Forgotten Coast'. As Denise likes to say, 'It was never the Forgotten Coast to us, it's home!'

Cliff Butler purchased this house in 2011

Why Cliff Butler chose Florida

The opportunity and benefits of owning a vacation rental home on St George Island came together at the right time as we were starting a new phase of our lives. It gives us the opportunity to share what we have enjoyed for so many years with our children, grandchildren, extended family, friends and others we have yet to meet. We plan to use a share of the profits to support nonprofits such as Rotary, Wounded Warrior Project and related organizations.

What makes this house unique

Observing gorgeous sunrises, sunsets as well as other related weather events are some of the most unique benefits that can be enjoyed while staying at our property. There are many other opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of our area from the beaches to our bay, river and forests. It's fun to watch all the creatures that make their home here. You do not need to even leave the deck to listen to and watch birds or to find the constellations in the night sky. No city lights dim the stars on the island. The home is newly tiled throughout. Open the windows on cool nights and listen to the surf!

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

Totally enjoyed our stay at the last straw. The set up was ideal for our group. It was comfortable and the location was great, just a couple blocks to the beach.the kitchen had most things we needed including big pots and colander to cook lots of local seafood. We had some key issues but those were quickly resolved. Having a washer dryer was a definite plus but given the limited towels provided it was a must. I would suggest a couple extra towels for convenience. Throw rugs for inside the front door would be nice also to help cut down the sand factor. We stayed with our family pets which was also a big plus. The additional fee was reasonable.i think it would be nice to make it a deposit instead that could be returned if kept clean which we worked hard at, the only other concern was the oven. It would only go up to 280 temp wise but then cooked WAY higher than that and we had some early casualties as a result. Either a repair or a thermometer in the oven I think would be great. Overall I would absolutely stay again as would my family members!

A Great House for a Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at "The Last Straw". The owner and his family were very nice to work with and accommodating if we had any concerns or needed anything. We had a bit of a scare when we first arrived as the previous guest hadn't checked out but he stayed in communication with us until it was ready for us. We only got delayed an hour on our check in but the owner did all he could to make sure we got in that evening. After an 8 1/2 hour drive we greatly appreciated that! We really enjoyed all of the outside decks and porches. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and I really liked the layout. All of the bedrooms are located on the four corners of the house so the living, dining and kitchen are in the middle. There is an apartment below the house, it is in the pictures but we didn't notice that it was separate from the main house. We didn't have any issues with noise or anything but I would recommend updating the listing detail so that future guests know that there is an apartment for rent on the property so that they aren't surprised, and two it may appeal to larger groups. The walk to the beach isn't bad and the island itself is very quiet and laid back. We trailered my husbands bike and the kids loved riding up and down the side roads with can't do that in Panama City or Destin! We had a great time, thank you for letting us stay in your beach home!

It was the best place we have stayed at!

  • 5 of 5

It had everything you needed. it was not far to the beach and also we found when you face the road from the house go right go down to the stop sign

turn right go not even a quarter mile and on your left is a park you can fish there play with the kids and dog's and have great sunset pictures!

and if you need ANYTHING do call Jolly Roger Beach Shop he DOES HAVE ANYTHING YOU NEED! we booked A half day Deep Sea fishing trip with him.

it was half the price everyone else was asking. and he just took me and my husband out it was very nice. the beach was very clean not much people on it.

very close to the house we took 5 little kid's the ages are 1/2/4/6/8 and they played every day at the beach and we took them to the other end of the beach there was only 4 other people that day down there with us. and yes the home is kid friendly very helpful and was dog friendly too we have two shih tzu's

both under 5 lps and we did not have a problem with them being there at all. Harry A's you can even take your dog's out to eat loved it.

the only problem we had was on Friday morning the guy that cut's the grass showed up and started cutting the grass and yes your right I had 5 kids ASLEEP!

ya thank's grass boy! next time go up and ask hey is everyone up our better yet wait until Saturday at 12:00pm when you know everyone has to be out of the home at 11:00AM cst and Yes UNDER the home is A apartment someone showed up Friday night we never had a problem. just felt weird because there was a door in the hall you could not open a made me feel like there was someone going to just walk in our out without us knowing! and my brother said he thought it was maybe a door to go into the apartment down stairs i think he was right.

the owner was very nice i am a planer i have to have everything planed 2-3 day's before i called him on Tuesday and he was not upset at all said he was going to email me Thursday and he did. got all the info in time. it was very clean and easy to keep clean.

great beach vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just stayed at the last straw and had a very good experience. After emailing several properties Cliff was the best in responding quickly and being willing to work with our schedule.

The house was clean and spacious and provided everything we needed as a group of 7. The rinse off shower outside was very helpful in keeping the sand out of the house.

Thanks again to Cliff and family!

Great Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for two weeks of relaxing vacation. We were a group of 4 adults and two young children, and we certainly would have been comfortable with even a couple more people. The house had everything we needed. It was close enough to the beach to walk in less than 3 minutes. My kids loved the deck and screened porch, and of course, the beach. Lovely vacation. We'll return when we can.
