Two separate cottages that have been lovingly restored and modernised.
We offer private, luxurious, self-catering accommodation with a double bed, ensuite shower room in each cottage.
The 2nd cottage is 10m from the Stillery and is NOT suitable for very young children, but a pull-out settee is available in the Stillery to address this if necessary?
So, if you desire peace and quiet – a rare taste of rural Portugal as it used to be with picturesque surroundings, look no further than Covas.
Ideal for anyone wanting a quiet holiday and interested in enjoying and exploring the unspoiled Alto Minho region. Covas is situated approx 20 minutes from the Spanish border and the old town of Villa Nova De Cerveira. 25 minutes from Caminha and its pristine white sand beaches. Across the border is northern Spain’s Galicia region which is steeped in history with wonderful seafood and tapas. Our property was fully restored in 2007 and sits in 2 acres of private gardens. The farm is situated in an idyllic woodland retreat, full of native cork, oak's and mature olive trees complete with a 12m x 6m Swimming pool feed from a natural spring with fantastic far reaching views over the Serra de Arga..
The landscaping and facilities have been sensitively built using local granite and our own wood wherever possible with plenty of mature shrubs allowing privacy!
Please note that the new owners do live on-site in the old farm house.
Kayaking is available on the picturesque local River Minho,

We had a wonderful week in Covas. Melissa's place was so beautiful, peaceful , welcome atmosphere and whole experience was beyond our expectation.
We all wish we had booked one more week....(we have been to Western Algarve twice before and we were sort of ready to go home after a week... but this time we all wanted stay much much longer...)
Valenca was beautiful old fortress town and worth a visit, Caminha & Praia de Ancora was great fun and we had a few great lunch (fish) there. Cerveira's Saturday market was very lively! There are lots of other places to visit nearby but also just chill out in a garden/pool and walk around Covas is so peaceful.
Driving though the mountain, river,, very scenic, just beautiful.. it make you so relax, calm.. this is what a holiday is all about!!!
We had a lunch at one of local restaurant and it was a great experience! They don't have a menu!!! The dish we were served was simple yet delicous!!!
Our son's highlight was a horse-riding. It was his first experience and unforgettable memony.Melissa is a fantastic instructor too. Also we enjoyed playing with Murphy and Jack the dogs.... they were great company!!
I am so happy that we have found this place.
Thanks Mellisa for letting us stay in your beautiful house!!
We would definitely go back there soon!! Would love to visit Covas in different season too.
My husband and stayed here in the middle of September and absolutely loved it. This place is set in a quiet little village in a valley in the northern mountains of Portugal. The accommodation itself is wonderful - Melissa and Chris are wonderful hosts who make you feel welcome and yet leave you alone if you wish. We stayed in the main 1 bedroom villa. It has everything you need including a washing machine if your staying for long periods of time. The bed is amazing and had the best nights sleeps you could ask for. It was nice to have the opportunity to watch UK TV shows as well as well as having the opportunity to sit outside underneath the vines and eat BBQ's and just soak in the atmosphere. There's a supermarket not that far away - 20 mins over the hill which was really convenient. I would thoroughly recommend doing the coast around the area and also driving through the National Parc which is not too far away. There are so many quaint little villages to see and Melissa and loads of information provided on the areas to see which was very helpful.
We would definitely come back here again - to either sight see or just sit by the pool and relax. Melissa highly recommends coming in May - when everything is in bloom so you should definitely come then!
When we choose the destination for our precious 'week away', we try to find a destination that will provide an experience that is as authentic as possible. We want to avoid tourist-staurated destinations and all that acompanies them, heavy traffic, noise, too many people. Our ideal is comfortable accomodation with a good sized private pool just for us or shared only with the owners, to feel welcome but supported, if need be. We like to be set in beautiful countryside with interesting areas not too far away and yet to be able to walk to local restaurants and bars.
This, and more, is what we enjoyed while staying in 'Melissa's cottage'. From the moment of our arrival we knew that we were welcome and would be at ease here. We had a terrific holiday!

We are just back (yesterday) from 10 days in Covas with our 13months old baby. We had a fabulous time. The house is just like the pictures, very clean, very welcoming, the garden is great and the pool is perfect. Melissa, Chris and the girls made us feel welcome, always suggesting nice things to do or nice places to go to without being "in your face".
You get a "welcome pack" on your first day with milk, fruit juice, eggs, butter, fresh butter, etc. Lovely attention to details
We had a fabtime and are seriously thinking about going back as the region is full of lovely places to discover and we have not seen it all.
We stayed at this place for a week at Easter, nice place, fantastic views the property is well decorated the kitchen is furnished( no micro wave in the big cottage) there are two cottages in the property we got both(we were four) Melissa the landlady was really very helpful, the cottages were very clean, it was a nice surprise to find first provisions in the fridge and fresh bread in the kitchen when we got there.
the property is located in a beautiful area with great views, there are nice and recomanded cities and villages round, also not very long distance to some beautiful Spanish cities such as Santiago de Compostela coruña,vigo,Baiona......
A week in this place was not enough, we´ll go back soon.
Thanks Melissa and Chris.
We loved staying at the cottage. It is a very nice spot with beautiful views of the mountains. Chris and Melissa were very nice, they even invited us one night at their beautiful house to watch the soccer finals. But at other times we hardly even noticed that they were around. It is a quiet place, good to relax, but there are many towns to visit in the near surroundings so you won't get bored. We stayed all together in the main cottage, because our children are a bit to small to stay in the separate cottage, but when you have older kids, I imagine it would be perfect for them. The kids loved it, they are still talking about the lambs that were born when we were there. We were actually a bit sad when we had to leave after two weeks, we could have easily stayed another two. We would definitely go back their some day and we will recommend the place to all our friends.
Chris and Melissa and the girls, thank you for a wonderful holiday

Covas enjoys a well stocked mini supermarket, post office, cash point and 4 family run restaurant-bars, serving good quality traditional food. In the local town of Villa Nova de Cerveira you will find good supermarkets, shops, banks, and a large number of cafe'-restaurants, the majority of which are situated around the old square. It also accommodates a large Saturday market where you can buy almost anything! Caminha is a short 20min drive where you will find pristine, white sand beaches and plenty of good local sea food sold in the local market. Historical Ponta de Lima with its old Roman bridge and wonderful old cobbled streets is a 30 minute drive, there you will also find a fantastic 18 hole golf course. If you are desire fantastic scenery and walks look no further than our doorstep and the beautiful Serra de Arga, where you will find amazing views of the Atlantic coast and inland towards the national park.
