About Claudia Zucker
I am a transplant of 28 years from Manhattan. My husband dragged me kicking and screaming out of the City and now I wouldn't have it any other way. I enjoy organic farming (available to guests), outdoor activities, reading and being with my family. I am 66 years old with three grandchildren and a fourth on the way. I own my own business in town and would love to share my property with you!
Claudia Zucker purchased this Farmhouse in 1985
Why Claudia Zucker chose Acra
Located at the end of a dead end road in East Durham, NY, this 1870’s farmhouse was built on what is now a 98 acre forest preserve (surrounded by over 300 acres of undeveloped land). The main house has been updated to include an enlarged master bedroom with cathedral ceiling and a large attached deck overlooking the northern end of the Catskill Mountains and our organic garden below. There is a large stone fireplace in the living room and an updated kitchen. With waterfalls, pond and hiking trails you will have the option of quiet serenity or active outdoor activities. Additional services available include massage, acupuncture and catered meals. ( The house includes a fully stocked kitchen for cooking because no meals are included in this rental. All additional services must be set up in advance of bookings). There are nearby restaurants, shopping, galleries and four seasons of sports activities. We are 15 minutes from Ski Windham so you can get on the slopes quickly in the winter and in the summer there is mountain biking, fishing and no shortage of swimming options (one of which is our seasonally heated pool).
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The property is yours to enjoy. There are a number of requests we make. There are currently 2 well marked hiking trails but many guests take advantage of our full 98 acres. If you plan on going beyond the two marked trails we would like you to tell us so we know that you are out there. We do have maps and trail markers to assist.

Beautiful property with a cozy rustic farmhouse
Host was very friendly and helpful. The house was warm even with the outside temp in the negatives.
True vintage farmhouse
Our family of 5 (3 littles ages 3-8) spent a long weekend here at the farmhouse. Claudia could not have been a more gracious, thoughtful & accommodating host. She and her husband have gone to great lengths in big & little ways to update the house & property. She met us when we arrived to show us around. The property offers all kinds of adventures, from hiking on the private, well-marked trails, to boating on the pond, to perusing the gardens and swimming in the indoor heated pool.
The house itself is has quite a nostalgia about it. The kitchen is quite cozy space-wise with a small oven/stove & island/bar, but sufficient for a small family/short stay. We loved the fresh eggs waiting for us there! Dining table with 4 chairs sits near some pretty windows in the next room. Claudia filters the water, but we found it must be an acquired taste so I'd recommend bringing in bottled water if you're at all sensitive to water taste. There is a playroom stocked with all kinds of fun finds for the kiddos, and it adjoins Claudia's living space. The only bathroom is located at the top of the stairs, which has an amazing 2-showerhead shower, plenty of hot water. The floors are quite creaky upstairs, which is something to think about if you have light to medium sleepers traveling with you. We did notice a fairly strong moth ball scent which we were able to cover with some air fresheners purchased at the local grocery nearby. Thank you, Claudia, for helping us spend a memorable weekend with our family!
Rustic escape with amazing host & amenities
We're loved our stay in Claudia's 1880 farm house! Claudia was a great host. She provided for all of our needs during our stay, including a high chair, and a pack & play. She even provided eggs from her chickens as well as fresh vegetables from her beautiful garden.
The covered pool was amazing. The kids were able to swim for hours every day, regardless of the weather outside.
There is a stocked pond on the property, just a short walk from the house with a row boat and a fire pit.
There are also walking trails surrounding the property. Pay close attention to the trail markers, as they can sometimes be difficult to find.
Claudia is a smart, kind, and interesting host. Everything on the property is well thought out, and well run. We'd highly recommend staying herer and would love to return.
Perfect countryside gateaway
We had an amazing stay at Claudia's house. The house was very cozy and confortable, located on a huge property with its own forest and pound, perfect to enjoy the Autumn foliage. Claudia was lovely and always there to help if we needed anything. She had left us some delicious vegetables and eggs from her garden. The heated pool was the cherry on the cake! I definitely recommend staying there and would love to come back!
A Perfect Place To Stay Without Leaving Premises!
We had a wonderful time staying here. The house was clean and the beds were comfortable. The pool was great, my kids spent hours in the pool! Claudia was great in showing us around the property and my kids had a great time with her chickens! They had a nice swing set and sandbox . The lake was amazing with the row boat and the sitting area ! We really had a very nice time that was worth 5 stars! My wife said we for sure would come back if you would put a hot tub on the private porch off the master bedroom!
Magical Property, Lovely Owners
We rented this amazing property for 10 summer nights for our family of 4 (including a 4 and 6 year old boy) and my mom. We had the most incredible time. And we barely left the property. We picked (and ate!) raspberries, lettuce and kale from the organic garden out back; we hiked all over the property - including the two marked trails; we cooked up lots of yummy local food (farmer's markets and the local supermarket were great, the Walmart in the next town is actually superb) in the brand new kitchen; we spent HOURS everyday in the heated salt-water pool; we played board games in the living room in the evenings; and slept VERY soundly in the air-conditioned bedrooms. It was a wonderful trip. The private pool spoiled all future rentals and vacations for us - it was incredible!
Claudia was particularly amazing. She was organized and responsive (even after we clogged the toilet the first morning and managed to trip the circuit breaker right afterwards!). She's warm and friendly and even brought over a plate of asparagus for us one night! She showed us her chickens and told us about her adventures as a maple syrup farmer. We just adored her!
We also made a day trip to Hudson to visit the amazing Museum of Firefighting and to window shop, and another day trip to Albany to see the Capitol.
We highly recommend this property!
I feel the same way about my guests! They treated my home as if it was their own. Their children were adorable and so very well behaved. Their parents were warm and friendly and I loved meeting them, getting to know them and especially loved meeting mom. They would be great guests for anyone to have.
Located 15 minutes from Ski Windham and 30 minutes to Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl. Downtown Hudson (25 minutes away), Windham (15 minutes away) and Catskill (15 minutes away) have theaters, restaurants galleries and shops. Within 15 minutes there are state hiking trails and historic museums.
