About Muriel Yataco

My husband and I co-host. I am from Colombia and moved to Orlando in 2011. My background is in fashion design but I'm going back to school for ESL. I'm a total extrovert of the relationship and love to entertain. Javier and I both enjoy to travel and like to experience trips through a locals perspective and meet fun people. We've met several in our travels already. We are simple folks and balance each other out. I'm the voice of reason and he's the dreamer, ha!

Javier is from Lima, Peru but raised in Miami, FL. He grew up in South Florida and in 2006 made the move north and now calls Orlando, FL home. His job is in the travel industry, cruise to be exact. He's been been doing it since after college and he loves what he does.

We've been to: Italy, France, Germany all around the Caribbean, parts of Canada, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Australia and all around USA. On our bucket list is Tahiti, Spain, Brazil, discover more of Europe, Japan and the moon!!

We began hosting guests in Oct 2012 on a different platform and it's been a blast! We look forward to hosting guests from different parts of the world. We would share with you tips for shopping, dining and of course the parks. We strive to have your stay with us as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Also while you're here we would hope you can see the "local side" of what Orlando has to offer. You just might be surprised!

We've hosted guests from: Poland, Argentina, US, Belgium, UK, Guyana, Malaysia, Germany, Spain, Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina, China, Japan, Delhi, Scotland, Ecuador, Australia, Bolivia, Korea, Japan, Tahiti, Estonia, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, India, Finland, Colombia, Peru, France, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Israel, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Slovenia and South Africa. Where will our next guests be from?

Life motto for us, we are big believers in karma so in our daily lives we try to put out as much positive energy as possible because, "what goes around, comes around!"

Muriel Yataco purchased this house in 2008

Why Muriel Yataco chose Orlando

This home was our first home Javier purchased it back in 2008 and did a complete remodel. We've put our personal touches and have put a lot of love into the home over the years. Javier is a tech person and he would say this is a modern home, smart thermostat, smart lights, solar water heater, energy efficient appliances and etc. This was also the 1st home we used to start hosting travelers. Since then we have moved on to another home and use this home as a full time short term rental that we both manage. Make this home your home during your stay in Orlando!

What makes this house unique

The home is in a great neighborhood of Orlando. What we love about the location is that you can easily walk around the neighborhood and find restaurants, shops and grocery store all near by the home. In addition you can see the neighborhood is going through a transition of builders buying up the older homes and building new builds all around. Finally there are a few great lakes nearby such as Lake Adair and Lake Ivanhoe, all great areas for a run.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Alex and her friends were great with communication. They respected the house rules and left things tidy. We didn't get a chance to meet her, but communication was pretty each through here. We would highly recommend Alex to other hosts and welcome her back again anytime.

Up and comer...

  • 3 of 5

This home is in a beautiful location. Truly special. For those who visit Orlando and think it's all theme parks and tourist traps, you should live like a local and rent a home Downtown. There are cute little areas all over and this one is no exception. Lovely little shops and restaurants to walk to including a convenient Publix right down the road. The homes are high end and one of the many area lake parks is close.

I can't give it five stars though because of a few things so I will break it down like this:

Location: 5 stars

quality of home: 4 stars

quality of bathrooms: 2 stars

quality of kitchen: 4 stars (almost 5 but no back splash and many drawers were kind of cluttered, important if you are staying long term)

quality of pool: 2 stars

So we picked this home because of the pool. Sounds strange, I know, because we are choosing an urban area but there were homes in Iona and Thornton Park we liked better but they didn't have a pool, so we chose this one. But we didn't use the pool once. It is not inviting at all. It could use re-surfacing and/or painting but it is truly a missed opportunity here. The access to the pool is a back door, so you don't even feel like it's part of the house. The thing is there is a bonus room (not pictured when I was looking). It's the one with the portable A/C in the pool pic (probably a throw back to pre-renovation but not at all needed, the home has modern central air, of course). But this bonus room seems like a next on the To Do List kind of thing. If they renovated this room which now features an old desk and is used as semi-storage/office it appears, they could have a sliding door entrance to the pool area. They could add some lighting and plants to the pool and really make the pool cute. The "bonus room" would make a cute little game room or library. Instead it blocks your access to the pool and is unsightly. Too bad.

Then there's the bathrooms. Neither tub drain stoppers worked so couldn't use the tub but the shower had strong pressure so that's good. The ensuite is very dated and could really use some work.

But like I said, it's an up and comer and I'm sure the owners are improving as they can. They are nice. So when it's done, this home is one you will definitely want to book. I will keep track and see if improvements are made for any future vacations. The main part of the home is very lovely and like I said, perfect location.

Quick note to owners: No post it notes everywhere, please.

Owner's Response: Hi Manon thanks for the detailed review of your stay. We've been hosting for 4 years on other platforms and appreciate the feedback from our guests as it improves our hosting skills. Just a few points below in regards to your feedback: - kitchen in the pictures shows there's no back splash so not sure if this was a surprise to you. We'll consider adding one. - during the conversation phase prior to making payment to confirm the home you never once mentioned anything about the pool or if you had specific ?? about it. Wish you did if this was important to your family during your stay. The pool is over 15 years old and yes it can use resurfacing but that's a high investment at the moment. We do however have a weekly pool surface by NuWave Pools to keep chemicals up to par and to brush the walls and floors weekly. - the access to the pool is the back door because we've noticed over the years when guests used the sliding glass door they would repeatedly forget to lock the sliding glass door and not put back the security stopper. So instead we've made it where guests use the back door. - The space you're referring to is my old office. We did not highlight it in the pictures because we did not think guests would enjoy to work while on vaca. Also this space is the warmest part of the home since there's no AC vent from the central AC so we have a wall unit there and a ceiling fan. The sliding glass door brings in a lot of heat during the late afternoons. I know because I worked there for years, ha! - We are currently working on beefing up the lighting for the back yard should be online by early next year (investment we are saving for). - you messaged me about the stopper in the shower. I replied back advising they were out of order however I could have my handyman come over to add them. You replied back "no that's ok". We purposely do not have them working because outside of the bathrooms are wood floors and we would hate to have guests accidentally flood the bathroom tubs and have it spill to the wood floors outside of the bathrooms. We'll make a note in the description the stoppers are not working in the bathroom tubs. - yes the en suite bathroom is retro as you can see in the pictures. Not sure if this was a surprise as it's was shown in various angels. We've thought about investing to update it, but as of right now it's not scheduled for the immediate future, maybe down the road. Thanks for the feedback and all the best to you & your family!

Perfect spot, close to downtown!

  • 5 of 5

This was the greatest little place, within walking distance to some great food. Or a short ride from downtown, winter park, dr. Phillips. The pool was nice, and owners were very responsive and freely gave great suggestions during our stay. Very clean, great little neighborhood.

Thanks so much!!

Pam

Completely Satisfied!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I were completely satisfied with our lodging experience. The home was as advertised and as in the prior recent reviews. The hosts were very responsive and helpful in explaining what was needed for a most pleasant stay. We especially appreciated all the large spaces--2 living rooms, a useful kitchen, and the pool area. The master suite with bathtub and large tiled shower was great. All the beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept well as a result. The leather sectional couch easily accommodated all 6 of us sprawling out watching the wide flat screen TV. We hope that this listing is available should we return to Orlando.

BEAUTIFUL home. EASY access. HELPFUL owners.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Orlando for our son's university graduation. What a treat to stay in such a beautiful home, great pool, lots of room, easy access to all the places we need to go. We were told that it could be a 40 min commute to Winter Park, but it wasn't. Access was easy and we spent a lot of time at the house with our family. The owner's made some great suggestions for things to do and they were always available if we had questions. We made some great memories and would rent this house again!

Great expereince and really easy to book!

  • 5 of 5

“This was a great VRBO experience for us while in town for a family wedding. Really nice kitchen and living room area as you can see in the pictures. A very high tech approach with electronic keypad entry (so no need to arrange to meet for keys), awesome internet and lighting. Muriel also left a bottle of wine and some carrot cake which was great out back by the pool. Super awesome and very convenient to downtown Orlando and Winter Park. 100% recommend. ”

Great stay for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

We had a large group coming to stay and this home accommodated us all great. There was a welcome note with a bottle of wine and dessert left for us upon arrival, and Muriel was a very active host, checking in through email a few times just to make sure everything was working as expected, offering suggestions of local things to check out and seeing if we needed anything. Everyone in our group loved the home and the neighborhood, we all felt very safe walking to grab dinner, going for a walk or just relaxing at the pool in the backyard. We would stay here again in a heartbeat on our next visit. The home is nicely updated, affordable and centrally located within a short drive to anything a guest would need. Thanks for having us!
