What can I say about Berkeley? It is home to one of the world's great universities and is known for the high concentration of fine eating establishments including Chez Panisse by Alice Waters, the Cheese Board Collective, as well as the first ever Peet's Coffee & Tea Shop. Sidewalk cafes, bakeries, coffee houses, wine shops, boutiques, artisan home decor, and flower stands all lend the area a European ambiance. Fourth street has fine shopping in a variety of stores.
Berkeley also features two major theater companies as well as numerous small theater groups, symphonic and chamber orchestras, Cal Performances, several movie houses, and museums.
Come and enjoy!!

East - West, Berkeley is Best
The east coast owner moved west 5 years ago, renovated her aunt’s house in Berkeley and has truly fallen in love with her home and all that Berkeley has to offer.
A retired Landscape Architect, I love to garden and am currently trying my hand at watercolor and pastel portraits.
I love to travel but always love coming home to Berkeley.
Jean Holmes purchased this studio in 2006
There is so much to do in this area!! I love the theater, hike frequently in many of the nearby parks, and take classes at the university whenever possible.
Location, location, location! The public transportation is convenient, and UC Berkeley is a 25 minute walk down the hill.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. Your place was perfect. The view, neighborhood and amenities were everything we hoped for. Cannot wait to get back to Berkeley for another visit!
I was very glad to spend almost two weeks at Jean's place while working in Berkeley. It was private, comfortable and very charming. The foliage and sunsets made it feel wonderfully meditative. Location was great too. I'd highly recommend it for a couple or single person.
This was absolutely perfect for my wife and me, revisiting old haunts in the Bay Area for 5 days. The location couldn't be better: walking distance to all the restaurants and activities both in North Berkeley and on Solano Avenue (down the scenic path past Indian Rock); and an easy drive to the San Rafael Bridge for our day in Marin. Even so, it's quiet and dark at night -- and the view is dramatic. The apartment itself is new, fresh, spotless, with lots of light, fresh air, and lovely decor (antique furniture, art on the walls, etc.). The bed is extremely comfortable; shower is great; kitchen had all we needed for several meals in. Jean was responsive and helpful, and couldn't have been a more gracious hostess. She even stocked a small library in the apartment with guidebooks and maps for the Bay Area. We will definitely try to stay here again when we return!
I was in Berkeley to pick up my daughter from school at Cal and bring her home for the summer. Of course, so we everyone else and it was graduation weekend. The result was not many hotel rooms and those that were available were horrendously expensive. So I booked this studio on VRBO. I don't think I will ever go back to a hotel in Berkeley. This place was great. Great views of the Bay and such a relaxing setting. I was perfectly located to do things on campus and to get my morning (and afternoon) fix of Philz Coffee. We were near all the good stuff on Shattuck. When you are in a nice place like Berkeley sometimes staying in a hotel can be depressing (and expensive). Staying in this studio in such a nice neighborhood was refreshing and invigorating. The bed was very comfortable too.
Jean was a superb host. She gave us a warm welcome, had catered for the minutest needs of travellers. This place is a quiet retrieve with breath taking view of the bay and GGB. I've experienced one of the most amazing sunsets from the patio chairs of this rental home.
I'm a frequent traveller to SF & Berkeley - would love to stay again
We stayed here the week of 11/24/15, and it was superb. The attention to detail, including all the kitchen necessities, complete furnishings, artistic decor was excellent. Great bed! Great shower! Great view! And a space for the car! We couldn't have asked for more. The property wasn't easy to find, but we had very good phone direction in the dead of night from Jean, the owner. She was always there for needed help in a very non-intrusive way. It was the ultimate "anti-motel!"
We just spent 6 nights at Jean's apartment and it made our visit to Brkeley! Our busy days were eased by this relaxing place, great location and enough amenities to be very comfortable. Jean is a great host too, both attentive and privacy-concious. We'd be very happy to stay here again.
