Rest and relaxation is just a short drive north of metro Detroit. Our cottage offers a wooded retreat with Lake Huron access a short walk down a quiet lane, perfect for launching kayaks and canoes although there is no beach. You can soak up the quiet lounging on the front-porch swing or walking the peaceful wooded lane during the day, and enjoy stars and smores around a pleasant campfire in comfortable Adirondack chairs at night.
The location offers endless possibilities for day-tripping around MIchigan's thumb. It's an easy half mile bike ride to Wagener Park which offers trails, a playground, and a boat launch. Harbor Beach, only five miles away, offers sandy beaches, lighthouse tours, walking/biking trails, parks, fishing, quaint shopping, a farmers' market, and restaurants.

We visit the thumb region of Michigan annually to visit with family. This was the first year that we did not book a house on the lake/beach and I was a little worried that our kids (5,10,13) would be bored. Nothing could be farther from the truth! The cottage was clean and comfortable. The yard is very large and has a tire swing, fire pit and lots of grass to kick a soccer ball. The lake is a short walk down the street.
Wagener Park is a short drive, maybe a mile. We went swimming, beach glass hunting and played on the playground every day. We also got out to Harbor Beach (beautiful and sandy) and Port Austin for a fishing trip. We took a charter boat out and landed 7 HUGE lake trout and 2 small salmon. There were also cute shops in Port Austin.
My parents enjoyed the porch swing. We were able to get together for dinners and there was room for all 7 with the counter seats. The kids thought that was neat.
The lake breezes kept us cool most nights. There are plenty of fans and the wifi kept the kids entertained during any downtime. There were also several games and movies for rainy spots and evenings before bed. In all, we were happy with our first rental off of the waterfront!
Our group only stayed for a short time, but from the moment we walked in, we could not have felt more comfortable. The cottage was clean and inviting, and very well-fitted. I had a feeling before arriving that we were going to wish we had more time to stay, and I was right! I would absolutely visit again, and would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone else coming to the area. Thanks again for an excellent experience!
Loved the location! A deer walked down the dirt road in front of the house, robins abounded and the fireflies were amazing! We used the front porch swing all the time. The property is next door to Wagener Park which is a great place for walks, however the bridge to get there is no longer there. We had to cross the drainage ditch on our own, but it was well worth it (unless you want to drive there). The kitchen is fully stocked with all the kitchen wares you could possibly need. The information about the house said to bring your own toilet paper, but there was plenty of toilet paper and paper towels. We are an extended family of 5 adults and one child and we used the house as home-base for visiting family and attending a wedding. It was perfect for that and we enjoyed out week.
We stayed with our four young children at the beginning of October. The house itself is beautifully decorated and cozy. Our children loved running around in the yard and playing on the tire swing. We used the fire pit one evening to make s'mores. The house is really just steps away from Lake Huron- we enjoyed getting up and walking down to watch the sunrise. There is a small wooden bridge that connects to a trail that leads to a park and beach area. Our kids brought their bikes and we loved walking over there almost every day, playing on the beach and the playground, and exploring all the trails that were just across the road from the house! Because we were there in October there was not much open or much to do in Harbor Beach or the surrounding area, but that didn't really matter to our family- we are happy just playing in the sand, throwing rocks in the water, walking out on the breakwall, exploring parks and trails and playgrounds. The owners were fantastic- answered all our questions quickly, and there is also a lot of great information that they've listed on the HomeAway app, so check that out too! It was exactly the perfect, relaxing getaway we were hoping for. I really could not say enough good things about this house- we would definitely recommend it to anyone!
