2 queens, 2 twins, 1 sleeper sofa. "Northwind" offers great ocean and Pamlico Sound views! Located on a private road this is the perfect cottage for a getaway! Enjoy the loft with sitting area to read your favorite book while away.
This immaculately maintained home will show you some magnificent sunrises and sunsets of Hatteras Island. There is a sense of privacy here not afforded to homes in subdivisions. You will be able to watch rabbits scurry along the edge of the open fields. Excellent place to relax away your vacation...at the beach! 3 TV's DVD player loft area, wifi, jacuzz,i basketball goal, fish cleaning table, picnic table, screened in porch
Very comfortable. Beach view and easy walk.
Accommodations met expectations--house had everything we needed and was as clean as typical of a beach rental (though oven needs a cleaning and smoked badly). The bridge over the stream is out from the hurricane, but obviously is about to be rebuilt. It's an easy, quick walk to the beach via an adjacent driveway. The approach to the house is through maritime forest-type vegetation, very lovely, and passes a family graveyard. The area is exceptionally quiet and peaceful (at least in November!) and I for one welcome the sound of a distant rooster in the morning! Unfortunately the quiet is not matched with darkness at night so if, like me, you are a stargazer, or amateur astronomer, or just someone who appreciates not looking out at glaring lights or having them intrude into your space, then this is a problem. There is an LED so-called "security" light right next to the house, facing the small collection of trailers. It's glare-y, as cold spectrum LEDs without diffusion or shielding are, and the light spreads a great distance covering the yard area (deck too and light trespass into downstairs bedroom) that otherwise would be perfect for sky watching. Eyes could not fully adjust and ambiance was lost. It's a real shame because during a new moon or nearly new moon and on a clear, crisp night the sky here is as good as it gets on the coast. Hatteras National Seashore is applying for certified Dark Sky Park status from International Dark-Sky Assoc. which produces increase in tourists with that interest.
As stated good sunrise and sunset views. Well maintained house and was in a good central location for fall surf fishing. It's a nice private area. I would like to see some indication of the towels and linens being required on the property page (might be an off season thing). I would recommend this property and would stay here again.
Made my first visit to the Outer Banks for a wedding in Nags Head in October. Evidently nobody told the bride about the possibility of hurricanes and fortunately Matthew blew in a week before the nuptials. Having read the book, I looked for a simple home in Rodanthe about a half hour south of Nags Head. Rob's "Northwind" was exactly what I wanted. A modest three bedroom beach house with a comfortable living room, kitchen and pull out sofa for any extra guest. Having rented homes and apartments all over the world, I was somewhat taken aback by the need to bring our own linens, towels and supplies but have been told that is fairly common with beach properties. There was an automatic coffee maker pots, pans, dishes and utensils adequate for our needs and a Food Lion market nearby in Nags Head. The downstairs bath has a Jacuzzi tub/shower with plenty of hot water. Had some problem locating the home initially but a quick phone call to Rob steered us in the right direction. Keys are located in a lockbox outside and I had the combination. The recent storm blew out some screening on the porch upstairs but the place was clean and ready for our visit. A reasonably priced, well laid out home, I would recommend Northwind for anyone planning a visit to the Outer Banks and I look forward to a return visit.
This property suited us well for our 4 night stay in October. We enjoyed the proximity to the beach and also being in a quiet area that we could also drive north or south to visit other places, or just stay put. Being off-season the restaurant availability was more limited so we just cooked for ourselves a bit more. We were there a week after hurricane Matthew and the screen porch was blown out but it didn't affect our enjoyment of the property. There is paved road access to the beach just next to the property line and its an easy walk. The owner was easy to communicate with.
