The Space

This is a privileged spot on Gloucester Harbor. Great for vacation or for a living space throughout the year.

Obviously, the key feature is the priceless view of Gloucester Harbor, looking over the bay to Ten Pound Island and Rocky Neck that hosts the famous Paint Factory.

There is a small spare bedroom with a single bed. One of the sofas in the living room folds out to a very springy bed.

Second floor apartment. It has a large kitchen closet and a spare room.

Interaction with Guests

I'll meet you upon check-in or moving in. Give an orientation to the place and the neighborhood.

The Neighborhood

This area hosts some of Gloucester's, and America's, richest maritime history. The harbor is the oldest seaport in US history. Remnants of this fishing town are still alive and well. Rezpned in recent years, the old Fort and Flats area as well as the old Birdseye factory create an environment of a renewal with antiquity. You are within walking distance to many conveniences and restaurants, both for locals and tourists.

Walk to the beach, downtown, and trains, notably the MBTA commuter rail to Boston and other North Shore towns.

Walk to the beach, playground, restaurants, supermarket, train station.

Car or train recommended for getting out of the main town area.

Lots of parking in front of the building which is a dead-end parking lot.

You can walk to nearby shops and restaurants. Even the Shaw's supermarket is just .7 miles. On Railroad Ave are banks, shops and the commuter rail to Boston.

Getting Around

A bike would be great and a car is needed for travel out of the area.

MBTA commuter rail is nearby for travel to Boston or other nearby towns.

Other Things to Note

All utilities are included. Heat, electricity, water, basic cable and wifi.

Sq. footage 1200 sq ft.

Full Bathroom with shower

This location was perfect! Mark was a great host. The place was clean inside, spacious, the views were incredible! We enjoyed watching all the fishing boats going out and coming back in. Everything was within walking distance - lots of great places to eat. Mom's Kitchen for breakfast and Topside Grill for lunch and dinner were our favorites. Do not let the location or the look from the outside deter you from renting this place. We had a great time and couldn't have stayed in a nicer place!!

This location is soooo amazing and the view from the balcony is absolutely stunning!!!! It was centrally located and we were able to walk to restaurants and shops in downtown Gloucester within 5-10 mins. We also walked to all of our activities such as whale watching (about a 20 mins walk). If you walk the opposite direction from downtown you will reach the seawall to the fisherman's memorial.

Mark was incredibly welcoming and wonderful to work with in terms of organizing our check in etc. Also, prior to arriving in Gloucester, Mark responded very quickly to messages and answered any questions we had about the area as well as the apartment. He also offered us complimentary tickets to the Gloucester theater. Unfortunately we did not have time to go to one of the shows. He also provided us with a complimentary baked loaf that we had for breakfast one morning.

I would recommend this apartment to everyone. I think the only criticisms I can think of are the bed mattresses (they were a bit hard) and the bit of noise that you hear from the business beside the apartment. This won't be a problem if you are early risers, but if you tend to sleep in a bit you may hear some noise within the building. A fan for the bedrooms (to drown out noise) and some mattress foam toppers would definitely remedy these two (very minor) criticisms.

Overall, what a great apartment and location! My friend and I had a wonderful experience in Gloucester and I definitely plan to head back.

We had a very enjoyable experience. The unit is in a more industrial area (although that is almost a misnomer because it isn't a large area like Boston would be) but because the unit is where it is, the view is great - was always cooler than the warmer part of the city. Mark is Johnny on the Spot for anything that is required. There are places to eat within walking distance....shopping near by - could be walked to if one wanted to enjoy the experience of being in Gloucester more. There is a beach close by and playground.. For longer stays, the kitchen is fully equipped for eating in and there is a bbq as well on the patio. This is an apartment, not a hotel room which has advantages for everyone. Do not hesitate to think about this unit. It is priced very well for the area and is a great value on top of all the other pluses.

Great Experience!!. I was working in Gloucester and stayed at the apartment for 13 days.

I must admit that when I first arrived to the apartment I was kind of skeptical about the location because it is located in the small industrial/commercial like area; but don't be scared, the location it is as safe as it can be. The apartment is located in the second floor of a small warehouse, so when you first go through the outside door, you walk up a set of stairs to the apartment on the second floor. There is also office like areas to the side of the apartment that isn't unoccupied, but don't get thrown out by that. Once you go through the white door into the apartment, its a completely different story! The apartment is nice and cozy, and most importantly it is very clean! The view form the master bedroom to the water is spectacular. There are plenty of windows so you have unlimited view to the harbor. If you are looking for a place to relax where you can be by the water the entire time, this is your place! (as long as you get passed the outside entrance look).

Couple more things to add:

1) I couldn't make it to Gloucester during the first three days of my original booking due to unforeseen circumstances, and Mark (the owner) was extremely fair with me by moving the dates of my stay so that I didn't have to lose those three days.

2) Mark was away during my stayed but he had his parents take care of me. When I arrived, there was a welcome cake and card on the table waiting for me.

Five stars doesn't seem to do this lovely place justice! Neither does it tell you what a darling, wonderful host you will encounter! If you're looking for a quaint little "crib house" to Totally relax, convenient to any and all shopping, restaurants and touristy spots DO NOT pass this up. I'm only sharing this with you because Mark needs this. When you find a gem of a place like this you hate to let it out because the world moves in and future reservations get tight, if you know what I mean. Just wish we could have stayed longer!!!!!!!!! my wife and I stayed her last week (7 days) and enjoyed the accommodations Here is a detailed report so future renters can get an accurate assessment of this rental. The unit is 2nd floor in a warehouse with the owners apt at the far opposite end of the building. Downstairs is a lobster processing business. There is no negative's regarding either the apt or the business. You enter at an outside door and walk up a flight of sstairs that are easy and well covered with a nice rubber type surface. You continue a few feet and there is your apt door. Upon entering you are in a large kitchen with a large table. the kitchen is new and modern. To the left is a bathroom and that contains a nice shower stall, a newer toilet and newer sink. Also a handy corner table for all of your "stuff" The water is hot and the pressure is good. Everything worked as it should. Through the kitchen is your living room that has total views from each window of Gloucester Harbor ........you are on the water here and you have 24/7 unrestricted views of all the fishing boats and all the pleasure crafts moving in and our of the harbor. Turn left and you are in a very large bedroom with a nice sitting area and a desk for your computer. WIFI works well. This room ha a sliding glass door to a nice open balcony with two very comfortable shairs and a table and a grill. You are directly over the water and it is a delight to site and watch the boats. Off of the bedroom and down a little hall is another small room with a bed in case you have kids or another adult that can sleep on that bed. The soda in the bedroom area also opens to a bed. The bed itself might be the only area of concern with this rental. It is not as comfortable as it should be and could stand to be upgraded. It is hard, uneven and ready for lunmch/Dinnerretirement. We would have given this rental 5 stars if not for the bed. Overall it is a wee bit overpriced. Now for the surroundings Remember you are in a warehouse and you are surrounded by other similar buildings and businesses. To get to downtown you jut walk straight down Commercial St and you are on Rodgers St about 5 min quick walk or 10 min slow walk. This street has many restaurants and Pubs. One st over is Main with many many shops, galleries, boutiques, and many more restaurants and pubs. You do not need a car and walking is the best way to see the sights. For your convenience here is a list of the good spots we found.
