Why Neal Collier chose La Quinta

As historic property enthusiasts, we were drawn to the Legacy Villas for their unmatched execution of early 20th century architecture in a stunning desert location directly adjacent to the Santa Rosa Mountains. We were also very taken by the designer-friendly interior finishes, fixtures and furniture that created a true cozy southwest ambiance.

Furthermore, the close proximity of various local events, from widely acclaimed music festivals, nationally-rated sports tournaments and myriad other film and arts festivals made this an ideal destination for year-round vacationers such as ourselves.

Lastly, as active vacationers, our family loves taking full advantage of the warm desert climates by swimming in many of the 12 pools the resort, entertaining guests on our private verandas and exercising in the state of the art fitness center.

Best Location with Maximum Privacy and Light: Both the living room and king master bedroom open through charming french doors onto private verandas, where the aromas of surrounding bougainvillea complement romantic evenings of al fresco dining or wine tasting under a canopy of stars. The dual master suites each contain en suite bathrooms with deep soaking tubs and stall showers.

What makes this condo unique

We were drawn to our "Classic Paseo Greenbelt" Villa given its optimal central north location, which is close to many of the 12 resort pools, but far enough away from the main entrance for maximum peace and quiet.

Our lower villa unit was also ideal to us as occasionally we have guests who have difficulty with stairs and also prefer direct access to the beautifully manicured greenbelt lawn and "Paseo" walking path leading directly south to the main Clubhouse pool or north to a nice walking trail that encircles the Legacy Villas resort.

As we love entertaining outdoors with our friends and family, the private patio off the dining area has a gas barbecue which can be used while watching our children entertain themselves on the expansive lawn and view of one of the many resort fountains!

The single car garage parking was also very appealing to us and our friends who travel to La Quinta during the warmer times of year. There was also plentiful street and unmarked guest parking.

After we purchased our villa, we made sure to add all new luxury mattresses, kitchenware, linens, towels, new HD electronics for the living room and bedrooms along with many other creature comforts to upgrade the experience for our guests.

Good location

We've stayed at the Legacy Villas before and the property is great, especially for those traveling with small kids. The location of this particular unit, toward the back of the property, is also nice.

We had a few issues with the unit that are costing a few stars in our review. I will say, I think these things just happened to us on our particular stay and I'd guess that usually the property is as nice as the other reviews state.

First thing was the cleaning crew was there 45 minutes past our check in time and seemed to cut a few corners trying to get out of there quickly--dirty towels in one bathroom, damp sheets on a bed, no extra trash bags left for our 5 night stay. While annoying, we got in and got settled after they were done.

Second, after opening windows to air the place out after the cleaners left (it smelled heavily of cleaning products) we realized upon closing stuff up for the night that one of the back windows wouldn't close. We called the property manager the next day, and while we were on the phone with him we realized that the oven in our unit was not working and wouldn't power on. He came out later that day to look at the window and oven, fixed the window, couldn't fix the oven.

I contacted the owners the next morning since I never heard back from the manager about getting the oven fixed. We heard back from the owners that the oven couldn't be looked at until sometime Thursday (we were there Sun-Fri). The owners responded quickly and apologized for the inconvenience and offered some compensation that I felt wasn't quite enough since a major component of the unit (one that we would've used every day) was not working. After a bit of negotiating they ended up reimbursing us for a night's stay. Also frustrating was the amount of time I had to spend on the phone during our vacation to keep track of who was coming to our unit when to fix things. I wasn't totally comfortable having random people there while we weren't around...that's just me.

There were a few small things like no tongs for the barbeque, a very wobbly chair at the table, having to call to get extra garbage bags from housekeeping, and the dishwasher that wasn't anchored properly and would wobble when loading/unloading. All things that just needed to be fixed, but got to me on top of the other stuff....hence the three stars. If there had been a half star option I probably would've given 3.5. Our experience just wasn't the best.

Owner's Response: Courtney, I'm disappointed that your experience wasn't up to your standards and we will try to better our service for all future guests. As private homeowners, we do our best to make things as pleasant as possible for all our guests, but we are not a professionally run hotel that has tens, if not hundreds, of people at our disposal to identify and fix every little problem before our guests check-in, especially since our villas is more highly appointed than a standard hotel room. Instead, please understand, like all those renting their homes on these short-term rental sites, we are private homeowners doing the best we can with the limited resources we have. Secondly, you rented at the busiest time of year and the guest that checked out the same day you arrived stayed well past the 11 a.m. check out time forcing our housekeepers to delay the cleaning. Our housekeepers do not intentionally cut corners, as you assert, but obviously missed a few things to minimize their remaining time in the unit when you arrived. We supply our housekeepers phone number on our guests' arrival instructions and they can be contacted directly to remedy these situations when they occur. Additionally, we paid you $300, which is a tidy sum, for the inconvenience for not being able to use just the oven part of the range and that money could have been used to feed your entire party for the entire length of your stay. Instead, I'm not sure why you still felt it necessary to try to hurt what I believe is our well-deserved reputation with this review despite our generosity. You also speak about spending a large amount of time on the phone dealing with problems, but I do not recall speaking to you at all other than once regarding the stove so I am confused by that assertion which I believe to be baseless. Every problem you pointed out, but the stove, could have been addressed in less than one hour while you enjoyed yourself at the pool, but apparently you were unhappy to deal with a few minor inconveniences which happen from time to time. Instead, you chose to malign the character of our contracted employees as "random people". While it may not have been your intention to write this condescending and derogatory remark to describe our housekeepers and tradespeople (who have earned my trust over many years), that was is certainly disheartening to hear.

Nice, clean and well-maintained

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend with our young daughter. It is a ground-floor, 3-bedroom unit with 3 bathrooms. This is a dual master layout, each with an ensuite bathroom, and the third bedroom would use the bathroom in the hall.

The unit has a one-car garage, and is also close to additional parking and the trash, which is convenient. The interior is nicely decorated and very clean. The kitchen has everything you need, but if you plan to cook, be sure to bring everything you need - I mean even salt and pepper, because there are no consumable supplies.

Everything else was turn-key, which we really appreciated: A new scrubber sponge, some trash bags, rolls of paper towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner in the showers, etc., in addition to plenty of pool towels.

We didn't use the bbq on the patio, but that is also a nice amenity for a condo.

Overall, this was a nice place and we'll definitely be back the next time we go to La Quinta.

Great condo, perfect for families
