We are just back from an incredible trip to Sri Lanka and a highlight was definitely our stay at the Old Clove House. We were two families staying together with three children each and the house suited us perfectly. Tai, the owner and host, does his utmost to make it a 5 star experience. His staff is lovely, seemingly working around the clock to meet all our needs. Tai has done an incredible restoration to make a tastefully designed yet incredibly comfortable home away from home. The children loved running around the spacious grounds in the day time and swimming in the pool. We all loved the outdoor dining area where we ate some of the freshest most delicious food per all our specifications. The beaches are nearby with the pretty, family friendly Wijaya Beach (enclosed beach and terrific restaurant with woodfire pizzas) a mere 5 minute tuk tuk ride away. Galle Fort is maybe 15 minutes away. We absolutely adored our 4 days and nights at Old Clove House and only wish we could have stayed longer!
Our family -- three generations -- spent a week at Old Clove House in November. It was a wonderful vacation! The house itself has been lovingly restored and is very comfortable. Good lay-out, nice beds, wi-fi, TV/DVDs, you name it. The hosts treated us grandly -- welcoming us back after sightseeing with tea or lemon soda, accommodating our diverse dietary requests, assisting with all of our travel plans. Our young boys, ages 5 and 7, LOVED the pool and the monkeys in the trees next door, also going to the beach that is within walking distance. The grown-ups LOVED the meals (and we weren't easy to please, with a diverse group of Indian vegetarians looking for spicy food, and the more bland young American palates) -- only issue was that we probably all ate too much! Our heartfelt thanks to Tai and his team, and hopes to get back there soon. Old Clove House has numerous reviews on other travel sites (all of which appear good).
