Location, easy access to and into the property and cottage.
Could not have asked for anything better. Comfortable and had everything we needed.
Site is just like pictures. Very peaceful - even the local rooster waited until 9am to announce the day! The house is very cozy and welcoming with the owners artwork throughout. The layout with master bed/ bath on one end with two bedrooms and a bath on the other is ideal for families and/or friends. Once we navigated our way to the main highway (10-15 min) we had many choices to eat, shop or just be tourists. My favorite activity was rocking on the front porch where you stayed cool and dry no matter the weather. Thank you Rick for your help with our questions and especially your hospitality.
Location. location, location. This spot does not require driving up precariously steep, winding roads [many of them gravel] to the top of a hill and yet still offers beautiful views of a valley and a cascade of those "blue hills". The house is near the end of a quiet dead-end road so there is little traffic and only a scattering of neighbors. Your most constant companions are the cattle grazing across the road, the flock of turkeys that wander through at dawn and dusk [sometimes with chicks], the oblivious groundhogs, an occasional deer, a hawk or two, and lots of songbirds. If you is are attending classes at John C. Campbell Folk School, it is only a 7 minute drive to the campus.
The house offers three good size bedrooms with very comfortable beds. The queen mattress was a bit firmer than I like but the two pillow-top mattresses in the guest rooms were like sleeping on a cloud. The kitchen area is large and open to the living area so the house feels very spacious. The AC/heating unit is very efficient and quickly cools/heats the area to a very comfortable temperature in just minutes. Ceiling fans keep the air moving and when the windows and doors are open, the fans provide all the temperature control you might want. The front porch is easily the best asset and we spent almost every meal and most afternoons sitting out there in the rocking chairs just watching the wildlife. Even when the temps climbed into the 80's, that porch was cool. And there's nothing more enchanting and peaceful than sitting in the dusk watching hundreds of lightning bugs twinkle in the fields around you.
The house itself does not have a lot of minuses, but here are a few minor things that might bug you: water-restrictor shower heads that provide only a fine mist spray; a master bath across the hall from the bedroom rather than en suite; kitchen with lots of pots, pans, casseroles, and plastic ware but almost no lids; an outside security light so bright that the guestrooms are never really dark at night.
The two negatives that will prevent us from returning to this lovely spot, however, were the metered wifi and the last minute change in payment that cost us an additional $745. Guests are allowed only 10g/month wifi and each additional gig costs $10. You can use that up pretty quickly just reading email, doing banking, looking for travel adventures. As for the unexpected fees, just be sure you get a TOTAL cost IN WRITING to prevent unpleasant surprises.
My husband surprised me with a trip to the mountains this past weekend and he had rented this little cottage. It was absolutely perfect. Loved sitting on the front porch in the rocking chairs. Everything was very nice and clean. Hope to stay again soon.
My wife and I enjoy taking classes at the Folk School and we have rented this cottage from Rick 3 times and every time has been a wonderful experience. The house is always clean and neat and Rick is a fantastic host, who is gracious, caring and responsive. We don't even consider staying anywhere else and plan a return visit next September. I would absolutely recommend this home for anyone staying in the Murphy, Brasstown area.
We had a wonderful stay at this little cabin in the woods! Rick was there when we arrived bringing some nice soap for us to use! That was such a nice added touch. The place was just being finished up getting cleaned and it was exceptionally cleaned. Very friendly owner and would have been there for any needs we had. The cabin had everything we needed! Perfect little getaway surrounded by gorgeous mountains! We checked out the casino while there, and had a good time doing that. A perfect Valentiens dinner at Doyles was wonderful! Would recommend and would stay again! Thanks!
