Welcome to our Pinewood Cabin! This home away from home holds many memories for us. It is a family treasure since we are the original owners. We built, installed & decorated everything from the ground up. Many years ago our hands helped to paint walls, lay flooring & hammer nails. We have watch our children grow year after year enjoying this wonderful place. Many memories from snow ball fights & jigsaw puzzles, to hiking by the lake or BBQs on the patio. Now that the kids are grown, it is more difficult to gather for a weekend vacation. Our desire is to open it up for you & your family to enjoy time together - making memories of your own.
Bob Childress purchased this cabin in 1980
The Pinewood and Munds Park community is a charming town with a wonderful 'Mayberry' feel to it. Our neighbors are kind & thoughtful people -good 'ole folks. We have a golf course, community park, a lake, hiking trails, restaurants even a gas station all within walking distance. The weather is wonderful all year around. We enjoy the cold of snow in the winter & the warmth of the sun in the summer months. With the elevation near 6500 ft the winters are cold but not terrible. After a snow storm the roads are cleared quickly & tirechains are usually not required. The spring & summer months are near perfection. Average temps are in the mid 70's, sunny with a mountain top breeze. It's our favorite Northern Arizona place - we hope it will be yours too!
We have done our best to equip each room with all the comforts needed to enjoy your stay. Many extra items are stored in closets or storage rooms throughout the cabin; items like blankets, pillows, board games, jigsaw puzzles, snow sleds or tools & cleaning equipment. Please feel free to use these additional items as needed. We truly want you to enjoy your stay; however, our only request is that you return them as you found them, so others may enjoy these extras in the future.
Recently stayed here for our family reunion. I did not mind that the cabin was dated. My husband and I slept in the room upstairs with a bunk bed (bottom bunk). I have never encountered bedbugs in my life until staying at this cabin, nor did I know what they looked like until seeing them on the walls of this cabin. Our last day in the cabin was spent meticulously isolating all of our belongings before driving back home to Vegas. I was extremely terrified of bringing bedbugs into my home. We also cleaned the cabin before we left. The only furniture we rearranged were the sofa in the upstairs living room, in which bedbugs were found and underneath it, and aluminum/plastic beach chairs which I neatly put away along the wall on the outside deck. The kitchen faucet was completely functional during the entire stay as we cleaned and washed dishes the whole weekend. The infestation can be verified as we have pictures to prove this. My husband and I both started reacting to bedbug bites about 3 days after leaving the cabin. I now have blistering lesions mostly on my feet and legs, which were exposed to the bed we slept in. The bedbug bites have been torturous and extremely itchy. My lesions are finally starting to heal. As the owner said, the bedbugs could have come from anywhere or anyone, but it didn't make sense to inconvenience our entire family if we brought the bedbugs into the cabin, as the owner is implying, and then spend half the day ensuring we don't take the bedbugs with us. When the owner responded to our complaint, we were told someone would come in to spray the sofa while we were out exploring Sedona, but we're finding out now that the proper way to resolve the issue is heat treatment. So why did the owner send someone to spray the sofa? And what did they spray that might've been toxic and dangerous for us to be inhaling during our stay?? Why is the inspection protocol only being implemented now instead of inspecting the property routinely? If the property was being taken care of then there shouldn't have been yellow caution tape on the staircase to the outside deck which was not safely barricaded. I hope for some truthful feedback from the inspection conducted by professional bug experts. I write this review to warn future renters. It was a traumatic experience. I would hate for anyone else to go through this ordeal. Proudly, we are bedbug-free in our home and are still vigilantly inspecting that we didn't bring souvenir bedbugs home from this cabin
The outside deck was the best part of the cabin and is where we stayed the most during our stay. Cabin was adequately stocked. Location provided a very relaxing and quiet stay. Perfect stay for mature couples. Lots of stairs outside and in.
Our family planned a Summer Fun getaway trip to AZ months in advanced. We thought we were lucky to find a cabin that was not too expensive and would accomodate all of us because we all wanted to stay together to make the trip more fun for the kids. When we got to the cabin everything was fine on the first night but the nightmare begins Saturday morning when one of the kids sleeping on the couch upstairs woke up due to something crawling on his arm. When my brother turned the lights on to see what's going on, turned out that it was a bed bug crawling on the kids arm so immediately he inspected the couch he was sleeping on to see where it was coming from and surely when he pulled the cushions up he found bed bugs underneath and by this time everyone woke up from the commotions. I immediately texted the owner about it before heading for our trip to Sedona. He texted back after an hour and apologized for the inconvenience and assured us that the couch will be sprayed on. When we came home that night we decided to not touch the couch or even go near it anymore instead my brother brought in some cots for the kids to sleep on anyways we only have one night to stay. The next morning my niece who was sleeping in the master bedroom upstairs found a bed bug crawling on the pillow that came from the cabin's closet so she woke up everyone in the room. Her mom which is my sister-in-law checked the room and found bed bugs on the wall as well. Our last day were spent making sure that nothing got on, on all our stuffs. Surely no one wants any bed bugs coming back home with them. We had to put our suitcases in trash bags. That's how traumatizing our experience was. When I texted the owner he actually have the audacity to insinuate that we might have brought the bed bugs with us like seriously??? The first bed bugs experience were found underneath their couch and the pillows that actually came from their closets!!! We always use homeaway for our family getaway and this was the first time we ever had to write a bad review!
We arrived close to 8pm on 8/12/16. The cabin and furniture are very old. We 've stayed in many different cabins through Homeaway in places such as Big Bear and in Utah so older cabins are not new to us. All the kids slept in the living upstairs. One of the boys woke up in the middle of the night with something crawling on him. When my brother in law turned on the lights, he found a bed bug crawling on the yellow sofa that he was sleeping on as well as the pillow that he was using that came from the cabinet inside the bedroom that had the bunk bed. So we moved the sofa back away close to the kitchen wall. All the kids then slept on the cots that we had brought with us. My daughter slept on the sofasofa downstairs and woke up with bites on her upper arm and shoulders. Everyone who slept in the bedrooms didn't see or get bitten by the bed bugs as of yet. My sister in law emailed the owner about the infestation and asked him to do something about it since we're going to be out all day of the 13th. I believe he sent someone to spray the sofa while we were out although was never told exactly what was done. Thinking that maybe what the owner did may have helped to eliviate the situation, we decided to stay since we only had one more night and figured that we'd make the most of our situation and since no one was going to sleep on or even go near any of the sofas. We arrived close to 11pm that eveming. The kids slept on the cots again while my daughter slept with us in the bedroom upstairs on the floor in her sleeping bag. My daughter woke up in the middle of the night with a bed bug crawling on a different pillow that was also provided in the cabin. She had several bite marks on her fingers, hands and arm. We took pictures and my sister in law messaged the owners again with the pictures and letting them know of our ordeal. What was supposed to be an enjoyable and relaxing reunion that turned into a traumatizing experience. We've never experienced anything like this before with any of the cabins we've stayed in using Homeaway. And since we're not the type of people who would do steps such as giving negative reviews about anything, we tried to see if we can rectify the situation by asking the owner's to refund our money back and mentioned that hopefully their future tenants won't need to go through what we did, in hopes that the they would fix the problem asap. Owners said that maybe we brought pets (answer is NO!)......
Cabin was a lot of fun. Plenty of space for the family. We will definitely be renting here again!
We had an amazing time on our mini reunion. The cabin was amazing - it lived up to all our expectations. We will definitely go back. Beautiful surroundings and my hubby even caught some fish in Lake Odell. Thanks for the hospitality!
