Overview

About the property

Queen Street

These luxurious flats are located in an elegant Georgian townhouse, less than a 5 minute walk from central Princes Street and provide a very high standard of accommodation.

The first floor unit (up one flight of stairs), apartment 2, is bi-annually inspected by the Scottish Tourist Board and awarded 5 stars - a world class grading. The flat is superbly equipped with a 43' plasma screen TV and an integrated sound system supplying music to every room in the flat. The 3 large windows overlook the delightful private Queen Street gardens for which a key is provided. This elegant room benefits from a remote controlled gas coal-effect fire and the two large sofas convert into beds should guests be staying over. The modern kitchen has granite worktops and is fully equipped with a Miele washer/dryer, Siemens dishwasher, two Siemens ovens - one with microwave - fridge freezer, waste disposal unit and wall-mounted LCD TV. There is a 3 ring electric induction hob and a large gas ring to choose from. The luxury shower has a ceiling 'drench' head and 4 body jets. The bedroom, situated to the quiet rear of the property, has a fantastic antique 4 poster bed, fitted wardrobes and dressing table. Clock radio, hair dryer, iron and ironing board are provided as is free Wi-Fi.

The ground floor apartment (no 1) has a similarly impressive living room but has the added feature of an early 19th century wall mural. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher and washer/dryer. The stylish bedroom faces the quiet rear of the building. Please note that the shower room is accessed from the bedroom.

The apartment overlooks the private Queen Street Gardens for which a key is provided. This is a peaceful haven in the middle of the city centre with manicured lawns, mature trees and an array of beautiful flowers and shrubs. There is small lake with an island in the gardens which is reputed to have given Robert Louis Stevenson (who lived on the other side of the gardens when he was a boy) the idea for his book 'Treasure Island'.

If you require parking please let us know. We can provide a garage space a short walk away, subject to availability, for an additional charge.

This flat occupies the Drawing Room (1st) floor of what was a Georgian gentleman's 18th Century Town House. The property was fully renovated in 1998 and our flat has been continuously improved by us since we bought it in 2001.

Old School Perfection in the New Town

  • 5 of 5

We traveled from the United States with a husband, wife, and twin seven year old daughters. We stayed in the first floor (by European reckoning; 2nd floor for US) apartment. The place is absolutely stunning and beautifully appointed. The drawing room was comfortable and spacious, with high windows that poured in lots of natural light. The bedroom's four-poster bed was roughly American queen sized and very comfortable. The drawing room has two pull-out sofa beds. Kitchen had all manner of sleek appliances including a brand new Miele washer-dryer, one of the few we've come across that delivers an American-style dry and comes pre-loaded with detergent. Shower had top and side nozzles and plenty of hot water pressure.

Francois greeted us on our arrival and gave us a detailed introduction to the apartment, recommended local shops and restaurants, and some general overview of the area. He was gracious and made us feel very welcome. And the key to the private Queen Street Garden gave a lovely oasis of green space where our girls could run around a bit.

The prime location made it a 10 minute walk from Waverley Station and a short walk to all the shops, restaurants, and sights of the Old and New Towns. In short, it was an ideal, stunning home base for our Edinburgh explorations. We were sad to leave it, and look forward to coming back!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post such a carefully considered and detailed review. It is always satisfying to meet and, even better, to exceed, one's guests expectations. We like this area of Edinburgh so much that our home is just a few doors away so we can only agree with your assessment of the neighbourhood. We look forward to welcoming you next time you visit by which time the four poster bed should have new, more luxurious drapes and an updated 65" HD TV should feature.

Spacious, well appointed and well situated!

  • 5 of 5

This property is central to Edinburgh's many attractions. The flat is well appointed and though Queen Street is a busy road, the bedroom was pin-drop quiet and cozy. Views from the parlor are spectacular. Francois was incredibly accommodating - providing access to drop our bags in the early morning and responding to various inquiries throughout our stay. Though we did not venture into the gardens, I imagine that would be a luxury in the warmer weather months. My daughter and I had a wonderful time and would recommend this property!

Luxury flat in the heart of Edinburgh, close to all the action and fabulous restaurants

  • 5 of 5

We could not have found a nicer place to stay while visiting Edinburgh. The lovely 1 bedroom flat on Queen St in New Town, with huge windows overlooking the private gardens across the way (to which we had a key) was nothing short of perfect. Cosy yet elegant, with compact new kitchen and bath, it sported a 4 poster in the bedroom. There was plenty of room for our daughter, visiting from Paris, to stay on the pullout couch in the beautiful period living room for part of our visit.

No detail was overlooked. Francois, the proprietor, arrived promptly before our cab pulled up. He showed us around all the switches and remotes prior to leaving us to enjoy. We were walking distance from all of the essential sights, and near dozens of delectable restaurants. Though we only used the kitchen for snacks and heating leftovers, it was quite well equipped if one desired to eat in.

We hope to return to a city we’ve come to love and stay in this perfect flat again!

A wonderful haven

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to have as our very own! We loved Edinburgh, where we stayed for about 10 days, and this apartment was a good part of that. Exactly as pictured. Very comfortable in all aspects. Close to anything and everything. And most important: Francois! There when we arrived to show us all the ins and outs, and advise on some terrific places to eat. And when my husband had a medical emergency, he went way, way above and beyond duty. We will always be grateful. And we will hope to be back!

Edinburgh Stay

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a week's stay in New Town close to Princes St.and all the sights of Edinburgh. Although the flat is in a heritage building dating back to the 1700s and the living room and bedroom reflect that, the flat has been very tastefully updated. The kitchen features an electric induction hob with a side gas wok burner. A dishwasher, and a refrigerator, faced in the same wood as the cupboards was a nice touch.

Bathroom equally updated with a walk in shower with body jets or rainfall showerhead. All was very comfortable and a way to re-live a bit of history. Francois, the owner was most gracious and helpful.
