About The Owner

We were going to rent this house on a permanent basis. But we couldn't bear to... It's too wonderful. We want to spend time there too. So we're making it available for vacationers, and we'll be there when you aren't.

The Owner purchased this house in 2011

Why The Owner chose Ontario

***PLEASE NOTE: An inquiry is not a booking! A booking is confirmed only when a reservation agreement is signed and the initial deposit received. This protects everyone in the event that we receive several inquiries for the same week.***

Our 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 summers were 100% occupied (please read the reviews) and we expect 2017 will fill quickly. We would be delighted to hear from you!

What makes this house unique

A perfect day: Rise to the mist over the bay. Then off to explore the gallery at Huff Winery. A visit to Bloomfield and Wellington for unique shopping. Then a couple of hours on the sand banks catching the sun. Stop at a local winery to sample and select wine for dinner. A visit to one of the local county markets for the freshest meats, vegetables and fruits, then home for dinner on the deck, watching the swans sail regally by, and then looking up at more stars than you've ever seen before. And so to sleep in the perfect quiet of a County night,.

Tomorrow? Golf and boating. Or maybe the area museums. A visit to Picton, or even Kingston.

Or just relax at Hawthorn Cottage, swimming, crafting and scrap-booking, reading, playing games, and re-charging the batteries with family and friends.

You can do the rest tomorrow. Or on your next visit.

Perfect for 2 families!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Hawthorn Cottage! It accomodates 8 and has two separate wings which allows for space/privacy. The cottage is well stocked, clean and comfortable. Look forward to another visit in the future!

A clean updated modern cottage in a quiet neighbourhood.

  • 5 of 5

We, a group of four senior couples, thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay at the cottage . It is a bungalow with all the living areas at the ground level . It has four spacious bed rooms with large enough windows and comfortable beds , two nice clean bathrooms, a well furnished living/sitting room with a large screen satellite TV that lets you tune into a multitude of channels, a second sitting room, and a recreation room where eight of us could play cards together. The cottage is stocked with plenty of cutlery, plates, cups , cooking utensils, barbecue and small appliances. etc. The back yard that backs into a lake is large and kept mowed, well suited to set up a volley ball or badminton court. We set up and played badminton with the equipment we brought with us. The internet was readily accessible. The road in front of the cottage (the cottage is sufficiently removed from the road) was not busy and we found it very convenient for our morning walk. The owner was readily available for consultation by phone or by text and invited suggestions for improvement.

We have previously vacationed together in cottages in and around Prince Edward County and this one we like the most.

Perfect Cottage Getaway with Family and Friends

  • 5 of 5

We spent two wonderful weeks at Hawthorne Cottage. The first week was spent with our extended family - both sets of grandparents and our two children (ages 2 and 4). For the second week, the grandparents left and our friend's family moved in with their three children (ages 18 m, 3.5 and 6). The cottage was incredibly well-stocked (more so than our own home!) with endless dishes and glassware, good quality appliances, large capacity washer/dryer, great quality linens, comfortable beds, a hammock, loads of outdoor seating, a campfire pit and even two bbqs. The property was absolutely beautiful and very spacious for lots of time spent playing outside with the kids. There was even a horseshoe pit and a golf mat/net for practice. We did take the kids swimming at the cottage (water shoes suggested), but also spent a lot of time at close by North Beach which we found to be much less busy than Sandbanks. We went kayaking at the cottage as well (brought our own kayaks) which was wonderful and calm. The kids didn't mind being dragged around to the areas wineries as well - especially those equipped with trampolines (Norman Hardie, Broken Stone). Inside the cottage layout was perfect for two families as there are two sides (even two kitchens!) to keep things separated if desired. There was also a great craft room for rainy days where the kids enjoyed painting rocks and playing games. There was also wireless internet and a fully stocked media console with netflix, video games, etc. for evenings or when the weather wasn't particularly nice. This was much more a 'vacation home' than a 'cottage' as it was so well-equipped. On a side note, we had arranged for family photos to be taken in the area with our extended family during our stay. The property was so beautiful that we ended up staying right onsite at Hawthorne cottage with it's beautiful gardens and shoreline. We don't have enough good things to say about our stay and hope to be back again to make more great memories in Prince Edward County. Owner Tom was a pleasure to work with in coordinating our stay. We highly recommend Hawthorne for a vacation getaway with family or friends.

Owner's Response: Jessica, I took the liberty of using a couple of the great photos you shared for our website, with thanks. You know, sometimes I can start to forget how great a place we have, just from familiarity. It's wonderful to see it through fresh eyes again!

Great Family Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Our extended family (six adults, two children) stayed at Hawthorn Cottage for a week. Lots of space for everyone, comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen were very much appreciated. Great deck overlooking the lawn and the water. Lots of space for the kids to play. Hawthorn is ideally located to explore the County and handy to North Beach if you want a sandy swimming beach. Thanks for a great time.

happy memories

  • 5 of 5

Had an awesome week at Hawthorne Cottage . We were 5 adults and 3 children ages 7/4/2 yrs. The layout of the cottage is great for two families with younger children. We had everything we could possibly need from the appliances, cooking needs, comfortable beds, hot showers etc and this was wonderful. The large waterfront yard was perfect for games of soccer, baseball, football, Frisbee and water squirters! Likewise on the rare occasion we were indoors - the availability of board games, WII and a big screen TV to keep up with the Pan Am games was a bonus plus access to the internet was useful for those needing to check in on work projects. The location near Consecon provided easy day trips to North Beach , Sandbanks beach and the adults enjoyed some wine tasting at the local wineries. Our host was very obliging and we felt quite welcome and " at home" in this lovely cottage. I highly recommend this vacation site for families wanting so spend some quality time together.

Fabulous cottage. Great owner!

  • 5 of 5

We spent an amazing week at Hawthorn Cottage with our extended family. I was there with my husband, 10 month old son, my parents and my sister's family with her twin five year-olds.

The layout of this cottage is a little bit quirky - it actually kind of feels like two cottages stuck together, with two separate wings. This works perfectly for two families, as you have a lot of privacy (and screaming babies don't wake the others!). We were also thankful that it was a bungalow with plenty of space to play and no stairs to fall down. The front lawn is huge and is ideal for games and crawling around. It is an amazing set up for young families.

The property itself is beautiful and very well located. It is close to North Beach Provincial park, as well as a number of wineries. We had expected to spend more time in Picton, Sandbanks and Bloomfield, but the cottage itself was so nice that we did not venture too far most days.

Tom is a conscientious owner who is very accommodating and always looking for ways to improve the experience of his renters. He was a pleasure to work with. The cottage was clean, well equipped and has a great vibe. We will be back next summer, if not before!

Thanks for a great week!
