This lovely Victorian home in Pacific Grove harkens back to Monterey Bay’s past as a shipping and fishing port, with vintage nautical touches and coastal artifacts that will make guests feel as though they’ve stepped back in time.
At the same time, the 4-bedroom, 2-bath home has been extensively remodeled with modern conveniences and a spacious yard that’s perfect for barbecuing and entertaining.
Its location is also ideal for enjoying the wonders of Pacific Grove — it’s just a few steps from shopping and dining in the quaint downtown, or a 10-minute walk to the beach or to the butterfly groves. It’s also only 5 minutes by car to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, 10 minutes to shopping in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and 15 minutes to golf and fine dining in Pebble Beach.
Windows and skylights throughout the home bring in warm natural light as well as offering great views of Monterey Bay from the upper story.
The 1,400-square-foot two-story home, built in 1890, has been completely refurbished for guests’ comfort, with a nautical color scheme in reds, blues and tans, vintage furniture, a window seat in the front room’s bay window, a fully equipped kitchen and a backyard fenced for privacy, which includes a hand-laid flagstone patio.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary wine and cheese, passes to the renowned Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, spa robes and beach gear.
The pet-friendly home features a cozy front room with a gas fireplace featuring hand painted tile, where games and books will keep guests entertained on evenings around the fire. A 50-inch HDTV is available over the fireplace, and an adjacent sitting area with chaise lounge and console table is another place to curl up with a good book.
The large dining room table seats 8 on slip covered parson’s chairs, and the updated kitchen includes taupe tile floors, quartz composite counter tops, new appliances that include a gas range, and a deep porcelain farmhouse sink with goose neck faucet.
The downstairs master bedroom, decorated in the same vintage nautical theme, contains a queen bed, and the nearby bathroom has a large custom-tiled shower in ocean colors as well as an adjustable shower head.
The second floor features three bedrooms and a bathroom, as well as a children’s play area with beanbag chairs and a TV with DVD player. The bathroom features vintage tile floors and a pedestal sink as well as an old-fashioned claw foot bathtub to which an adjustable shower head has been added.
The backyard contains an outdoor kitchen with plumbed gourmet gas grill and granite counter top for food preparation and serving. Guests can enjoy evenings under the cypress trees around a fire pit, and find serenity in the sound of a built-in waterfall.
A one-car garage with bonus room for beach gear is available as well, in addition to street parking.

House was very clean and welcoming with lots of themed decorations.
The updated kitchen was nice, and we had plenty of room to sit and dine (party of 5).
Short drive to downtown, the beach, Monterey etc so it was super convenient.
Quick communication, and seamless booking / instructions process.
Great older home. Fixed up nicely and exquisitely decorated. Perfect location for walks to town and to the water. Beds and pillows and towels were super comfortable. Enjoyed a birthday party in the outside entertainment area around the fireplace. Definitely made our first trip to California as a family feel more like being home away from home. Thank you.
We had a delightful weekend at Ship's Watch in Pacific Grove. The listing was accurate in describing the location, layout and amenities. The house itself was clean, well maintained and cozy. We especially enjoyed walking to the beach, Cannery Row and restaurants. Our three night stay was not long enough! I have recommended this property to relatives and friends, and we are planning to return.
Ship's Watch is a charming retreat.
Ships watch was everything we could have hoped for and more! Great location and the house was stocked with everything we could ask for. Loved the outside fire-pit and patio. Julia, the house manager was extremely helpful and gave great recommendations for the area as well. Thanks again for a great stay!
There was know detail leftout in this house! Fully equiped with anything you may need from extra bedding and blankets to anything you may need to take a trip to the beach. My family and I just fell in love with the home and never wanted to leave! It's modern yet oldfashion all at the same time! Couldn't be happier with the home.
Wonderful home, beautifully furnished! We found everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The location was perfect- an easy walk to Lighthouse Ave and Lover's Point, about a mile to Safeway and Trader Joe's. Everything in the house was as described. We had plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 teenagers. The only challenge for our family (one is disabled, two are elderly) was the "old house quirkiness." The house was very charming, but be aware of odd ceilings, uneven stairs, and somewhat awkward layout. The house was also a little cluttered- again, with lots of charm and very nice furnishings- but made access a little challenging. We managed just fine, though, and enjoyed a wonderful week! We would happily stay here again.
