Overview

About the property

Rural house, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps 7

Have you ever dreamt to spend your holidays in the Tuscan country-side in a romantic, cosy house on a river? Your dream has come true!

Casa Carlotta is an old house, a mill, completely restored, preserving its original image with a warm and cosy atmosphere where the old and the new perfectly meet. It is the ideal place to spend both a relaxing and cultural holiday.

Casa Carlotta is a two-storey house: on the ground floor there is a living-room with a fireplace, a dining room, a kitchen (equipped with all the modern comforts) a toilet and another smaller living-room, in addition to a terrace where it is possible to relax. There is also a garden equipped with tables, chairs and check-chairs where guests can have their meals or relax surrounded by the Tuscan countryside. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms with private bathroom and shower and a living-room/studio with a sofa-bed. Guests can enjoy a private terrace overlooking a river, a paradise for reading and relax. The outdoor area also features a barbecue grill and a dining table to enjoy the outdoors while cooking a typical Tuscan product on the grill. The house has a music system with a wide classical music collection. The house is also equipped with an internet mobile wifi router, for guests use. The router is portable, so it can be also used outside the house.

As per beds, you can count on two bedrooms with double beds, another room (studio) with a french bed (in between a double and a single) and a sofa bed in the second living room (which can work as a forth bedroom), for a total of 7 places. In addition we also have one baby cot for guests use (if needed).

The house is extremely fresh even during summer months (it is not unusual to sleep with a blanket even during August).

The house is situated in an old, quiet village called Ponte agli Stolli, in the famous area of Chianti Classico (10 km from Greve), a strategic point to reach the most famous Tuscan cities such as Firenze, Siena and Arezzo. It is the ideal place to spend both a relaxing and cultural holiday. The house is in the middle of nature, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees. The site is of untouched nature, very panoramic/romantic and charming. Walking distance to the house (200 meters) there are a grocery shops, a bar and a restaurant/pizzeria (extremely good and value for money, only open on saturdays and sundays). The house is very close to Greve in Chianti (around 10 Km, around 10\15 minutes), Florence (35 minutes by train or car), Arezzo (40 minutes by train or car), Siena and San Gimignano (1 hr by car). Nearby the house there are horse riding facilities (1km) and a swimming pool (1km). The house overlook a small river that forms some natural pools where (in the right conditions) it is possible to swim.

The neighborhoods offer wonderful walking itineraries and wine tasting experiences. There are some nice market places close to the house: Greve, Panzano, Arezzo with its antiques market.

Upon request, we can arrange cooking lessons with an English speaking cook who will teach you to prepare a delicious Tuscan lunch or dinner.

The prices include taxes, bed-linen, towels, the consumption of water, gas and power and final cleaning. Expenses for heating will be charged separately (on consumption - to be paid at check-out - no overcharge applied).

At arrival we ask for a deposit of €150 against possible damages and/or losses. This deposit will be refunded at departure, expenses caused by damages or losses may be deducted.

Great country retreat

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for seven weeks and enjoyed seeing the seasons change in Tuscany and the weather go from rain and more rain to lovely bright sunny days in the last couple of weeks.

The house is part of an old mill and is very rustic - Watching the waterfall under the house during the flooding rains was very interesting.

It's in a great position to drive around Tuscany and further afield if you have the time. A fifteen minute drive down to the station at Figline Valdarno allows you to catch the train into Florence (thirty minutes) or other destinations in Tuscany and throughout Italy.

Ponte Agli Stolli is a friendly little village and we enjoyed meeting the locals and practising our Italian.

A couple of things to be aware of if you're booking this property - the wifi connection is very poor and we found we needed to drive to Figline to use emails and Internet. Another shock was the cost of the gas when calculated at the end of our stay. This wouldn't be a problem in summer, but it's a significant expense in cold weather.

Also, there is a small shop in the village for daily essentials at reasonable prices but at Figline there's an excellent supermarket. On Saturdays and Sundays there's a pizza restaurant in the village which is fun to go to.

We enjoyed our seven weeks in Tuscany and Ponte agli Stolli was a good base for us

We absolutely Loved This Place!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Old Stone Mill House for eight nights and defiantly plan on returning sion! The location was at the beginning of the Chianti Road of which the beauty is indescribable. We enjoyed the awesome sound system throughout the house and the classical selection was extraordinary. We love the town of Ponte Ali Stoll and enjoyed dinner at the local Italian restaurant which was open on the weekends. There was also a small market around the corner which was very good. There was a lovely large grocery store in Figline that we loved for shopping. The nearest train station is in Figline for day trips to Florence. Near the house there were many good areas for hiking and exploring. We cooked many of our meals in the wonderfully equipped kitchen. We loved the time spent in the garden and veranda reading, drinking Chianti wine, and listening to music The place was quiet with the sounds of birds and running water from the stream. We would rate this place a 10 and look forward to returning some day soon. Thank you for providing your home to enjoy.

Awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful and beautiful house! The house was located in a small community overlooking the mountain tops. It had lots of room and everything was provided even cds. We truly enjoyed our stay there. Luca, his sister and mother were all very accommodating. We had a cooking class our first day there and was an amazing experience. We went into the village several times to the grocery store and ate at a really nice pizza restaurant. The house is in a really good location for driving through Tuscany and also not far from the train station. You really need a car to get around the area even to get to the train station. The only thing was that the house had a poor wireless connection. It was hard to get any phone service because of it. We will definitely be back, though. We loved it!!

Highly, highly recommend staying here

  • 5 of 5

I would highly recommend this house and the overall experience was wonderful. The booking process was quick and efficient and on top of that, Luca provided us with detailed information before our arrival on local attractions and even on other Italian cities to which we visited later in our trip.

From this home, you are a very easy commute to Siena, Florence, and many of the other hill towns in Tuscany. Also, just a quick drive to the Chianti Classico wine road. But perhaps our favorite was to buy local foods and just enjoy relaxing and eating in the home.

We were a party of 4 but the house could have comfortably slept quite a few more.

From start to finish, the whole experience was great. I would recommend staying here to anyone, and have already done so in just the few short days we have been home. We are already looking forward to our next stay!

This place is a steal!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 2 weeks here with our family of five and after traveling around Italy for 9 weeks (mostly Tuscany), we can say with confidence that Casa Carlotta is a gem. It was the nicest home we stayed in our entire trip, yet was one of the least expensive. The house is very spacious and in no way feels like a holiday rental, but a cozy home. It is filled with beautiful art, antiques, books, vinyl, etc. that you wouldn’t expect to find in a rental. It is a bit difficult to get a feel for the place from the the pictures as they do not nearly do it justice and make it look smaller than it is, but in reality is a proper family home with two permanent bedrooms (with queen beds) and a 3rd child’s room, but has so many common rooms (3 not including the child’s room) that you could easily have a fourth bedroom for larger groups. The kitchen is a good size with plenty of counter top space for preparing meals and a large fridge/freezer and plenty of cupboards and room for storage (not always a given in Italy). The main bathroom is beautiful. It is very large as well with a full-sized bathtub and separate shower, plus there are two other bathrooms (one with small shower) as well. We won’t go into the great location etc. as we have blogged about it here (fiveitchyfeet.wordpress) and other reviewers have covered it. Suffice it to say Chianti is the Tuscan experience you are looking for and Casa Carlotta is an amazing base from which to explore. The only thing lacking is internet access at the house, which can at times be inconvenient (we did eventually find wifi very close by at Villa la Palagina, which has a very nice restaurant and swimming pool). Thanks very much to Luca and his family for a great stay -- we would return in a heartbeat!
