About Pam and John Flynn

We used to live in Atlantic Beach on Bogue Sound. While we loved it for many years, we yearned for more acres and privacy. John and his friend Ron discovered this beautiful property and we all knew we were destined to build here! We did, and our children were in high school/middle school at the time. We love the privacy and being so far away from reality, but in fact, wthin 6 miles of a beautiful town, Beaufort! As well as 7 miles from the fishing village of Harker's Island! We couldn't have animals other than cats or dogs in Atlantic Beach, but out here we have a mini horse, and 2 goats that love to be petted and fed carrots and apples! Our 4 chickens love attention! Our 2 dogs, an old, gentle golden retriever, and a frisky pound puppy, can either stay at the house or we will relocate them. They love going swimming with you!!! Great for kids that love animals!!! We will be in charge of their care, so no worries there! :)

Pam and John Flynn purchased this house in 1998

Why Pam and John Flynn chose Coastal North Carolina

Peaceful, serene, secluded location, panoramic view of North River, which connects to the Atlantic Ocean, 'God's Country', open floorplan with tropical colors, plenty of room for large family gatherings

What makes this house unique

Escaping reality, enjoying nature at its best!! Private sandy beach...Water view from most rooms...being near so many awesome restaurants, coastal points of interest, Cape Lookout, Beaufort, Harkers Island, the Ocracoke ferry, the NC Aquarium, the Atlantic Ocean, etc etc etc!

Inclement weather didn't dampen our stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Pam and John's house the week following Memorial Day. Despite Tropical Storm Bonnie, we had a wonderful time. The house was comfortable and provided everything we needed - towels, toiletries, etc. The kids loved the animals and enjoyed helping Pam feed them! We didn't get a chance to use the beach area because of the weather, but we took full advantage of the lovely covered deck and the awesome view. We highly recommend this vacation house!

More than I ever imagined!

  • 5 of 5

I have never felt more at home in a home other than my own until I had the pleasure of staying here! We had everything we could have needed and more. Our children loved the animals and they were so friendly! The owners of the house couldn't have been nicer! We had our wedding in the yard and it was everything I ever imagined! I would recommend staying here for any occasion!

More than a Home away from Home...Amazing Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

First off, cannot thank Pam and John enough for opening their home for us. We took nine 7th grade Cadette Girl Scouts and they were overwhelmed! There is so much to do, and the animals did not get neglected a bit! I think they enjoyed all the apples that we brought. ;) The dogs are also super friendly and followed the girls even in the water, which was so impressive! The fact that we didn't have to bring anything but food and clothes was KEY! EVERYTHING else was provided. A special thanks to Pam for the wonderful cake that was there upon arrival, and to John for showing my girls how to rake clams in the water. They had the time of their life: cooking, clamming, playing pool, ping pong, kayaking, petting the animals...you name it, they did it! This is just an incredible place to stay and we will be coming here again, as this is now our Girl Scout Home Away from Home! I also recommend this to all Troops, Groups, families and friends who want to get away...plenty of room and TONS to do, and very private! Thank you again Pam and John, we had a BLAST!

Owner's Response: Dearest Cathy, What a wonderful review to wake up to this beautiful morning! We are so thrilled you and your girls enjoyed our home!! And we are glad that you took advantage of the various activities we provide. The girls were just lovely; so polite and friendly! I'm sure the animals miss them terribly! It makes us happy to know the dogs helped out with fishing lol! And John was happy that the girls showed interest in clamming, and learned how to hear the "ping" that indicated a clam was hiding in the sand! It's good to hear that the household items we provided were appreciated. You ladies are wonderful to devote your time and energy to the scouting family. You are providing such a positive influence in their lives! We look forward to seeing you all again! Is was our great pleasure to meet you all!! Thank you for taking the time to share what you enjoyed about "Bettie's Best Kept Secret"! With much appreciation and warm regards, Pam and John

Wonderful retreat at the water

  • 5 of 5

Thank you very much, Pam and John, for making this weekend such a wonderful event.

At our arrival a yummy cake awaited us. What a lovely surprise and welcome. The house was even bigger than expected and offered so many things to do that we could have stayed 2 weeks straight without being bored. I loved the wonderful beachy decorations throughout the house and the amazing seashells everywhere.
