About Ken

We (Dave and Ken) migrated from the Chicago and New Haven areas 17 years ago and moved to Tampa. Ken served as Director for Information Technology for a large non-profit, and Dave, first as a techie, turned mortgage underwriter.

Settling first in the Tampa's Carrollwood suburb we opted to return to the city's core three years ago where we took on the task of rehabbing our investment property of ten years into a permanent home. We love the location and urban feel of living just north of downtown.

Ken purchased this house in 2003

Why Ken chose Tampa

A quaint Tampa Heights neighborhood undergoing significant gentrification in recent years; where neighbors know one another and large oak trees canopy much of the area. A convenience store is located across the street for sundries and snacks. Tampa's weather and nearby attractions make it a great destination for business travel or a getaway weekend.

As the oldest neighborhood in Tampa Heights, it is culturally diverse, inhabited by mostly working class families, and includes some older homes in need of repair. If you like eclectic, urban neighborhoods, with lots of ethnic restaurants and conveniences, this is a great place to stay. The owners have lived here for 15 years, know their neighbors, and have never had any security or safety issues.

The home, built in 1923, was scheduled for demolition in 2003. We purchased it in early 2004, completed improvements, and it served as a rental property until 2012. Construction for the new space began in 2013 when we added the guest wing and completed other upgrades.

Come enjoy our great weather and wicked awesome hospitality!

We are LGBTQ affirming property hosts.

Lovely home centrally located

  • 5 of 5

I was in Tampa for a local event over the weekend with activities at three different locations. This space was never more than ten minutes from any of the locations with easy access to the highway as well as main roads and thorough fares.

This space is clean, well decorated and very comfortable. The shower in the bathroom is on the level of a spa. The space feels new and inviting.

Ken was an excellent host offering the same level of service found in a five star hotel at half the price. There is also a nice patio with a lovely garden to enjoy a morning cup of coffee which is graciously provided by the hosts.

This rental offered the perfect combination of a clean, comfortable and affordable lodging in a beautiful 1920's bungalow that one can tell is cared for by Ken and his partner. When I say affordable, do not read this as cheap; rather,it really is a gem of deal given the finishing touches from the quality of the linens, free parking and access to the living areas and kitchen of this home. I would easily book this space again on a return trip to Tampa.

If you are in town for a sporting event, festival or just to enjoy the fun Tampa has to offer, you will not find a nicer space for this price.

The property is beautiful, relaxing and full of creature comforts.

  • 5 of 5

I rented this property with the intention of having a full kitchen to cook for my college freshman who is missing her mom's home cooking. The kitchen far exceeded my expectation as did the entire experience. The hosts were incredibly generous and open. The house had every creature comfort imaginable. I will stay there again for subsequent trips to Tampa. The location is ideal for downtown. The grounds and property were pristine and exceptionally comfortable. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Tampa.
