About Dave and Pamela Waleri

Pam and Dave Waleri have been owners of 30 plus restaurants, 2 hotels, and a 10 bedroom Inn on Catawba Island on Lake Erie. The Inn on Smith's Hill is their retirement home (although they live in a 37' motor home 26 weeks each year). The hospitality business has been in their blood for over 40 years and the Inn on Smith's Hill is a reflection of the many years of serving the traveling public. Dave spent 9 months restoring the 14 room Victorian farmhouse to it's present glory and Pam's has decorated and furnished it as it might have presented a 100 years ago.

Dave and Pamela Waleri purchased this farmhouse in 2014

Why Dave and Pamela Waleri chose Ohio

The Waleri's had been looking for a small cottage property to use as a home base for their motor home travels when Pam suggested that another bed and breakfast would be a fun retirement. Within a day, Dave was online searching all over the country looking for a cottage suitable for a small B & B. Instead of a small cottage, he found a 14 room, 7 bedroom farmhouse in disrepair only a few miles from where both were born. The home needed the couples time and resources (that is money). It took 9 months to complete the full remodeling and redecorating. The Inn opened in August of 2015 exceeding the Waleri's initial expectations ( and budget). They are anxious to share their Inn and home with you, their guests .

Wonderful Stay! Spacious, comfortable ,lovingly decorated ,well-equipped great for groups

  • 5 of 5

Our group really enjoyed their stay at the Inn on Smith Hill. There were nine of us and we had plenty of space to spread out inside and plenty of outdoor space Also. We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the front and having a cookout on the patio in the back. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you might need. The TV room has plenty of comfortable seating and the sitting area in the living room and on the back porch were comfy and cozy also. We enjoyed visiting Malabar Farm Kingwood Gardens, the Historic Carrousel District in Mansfield while we stayed at the Inn. We also enjoyed canoeing at Mohican State Park and having a campfire outside behind the Inn. The owners Dave and Pam, were very friendly and very helpful.

Wonderful, spacious retreat for family gathering

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 (parents and college-age daughters) and my sister’s family of 4 (parents, teen son and daughter) had a wonderful time staying here after Christmas and over the New Year holiday. Immediately upon entering the inn, we were happy to see all the holiday decorations. We hadn’t had time to decorate at home and it was so nice to be surrounded by lovely decorations that must have taken considerable time to install.

There was ample parking for our 3 vehicles. Indoors, we had tons of space to spread out all our gear and people. We weren’t spending a lot of time in the sunroom, so we used it for storage (we did use the unique toaster). Having many bedrooms and baths made our gathering very comfortable. The girl cousins used one of the spare bedrooms as a study/play room, and we took advantage of the extra showers and dressing areas.

We cooked several meals in the kitchen which had everything we needed though we brought some specialty items (e.g., couple electric frying pans for New Year’s Eve hot pot meal). The dining room was a lovely place to relax during and between meals. We also gathered quite a bit in the den; both the den and living rooms had comfortable seating and nap-worthy sofas.

We were able to watch shows via a laptop connected to the TV via an HDMI cable. We didn’t have time to enjoy the large DVD library. The Wi-Fi worked fine and we had excellent Sprint cell phone coverage.

We enjoyed purchasing fresh meat and meat salads from MaryAnne’s Meat Market which is only a short block’s walk away from the inn. We also skied at Snow Trails (warning: no Sprint coverage there but you can use Wi-Fi calling from the lodge), rode the carousel at Richland Carrousel Park, and spent time at the Ohio Bird Sanctuary. We missed the Mansfield art museum and hope to see it on a return visit.

We cannot wait to return to the inn and hope to bring our elderly mother next time as she could stay in the den with attached bath. We have rented many homes through VRBO, and this was one of the best. The accommodations were excellent, the owners were friendly and timely with their communications and our security deposit refund, and there is convenient shopping and interesting sightseeing/entertainment near the inn.

The inn was my grandfather's home.

  • 5 of 5

This former Smith family home has changed hands 7/8 times. The Inn owners have done a wonderful job of keeping it true to its original self. It truly is a historical experience and well worth a visit. It is very heart warming to have my grandfather honored in this way.

Wonderful and Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We had a family gathering over a weekend in July and the house and accommodations we very good. Kitchen appliances and cookware were nicely arranged and available for our use. The deck at the back of the house filled our needs nicely for the group of 9 adults. Nearby state parks are a nice feature as well. We are looking for another opportunity to take advantage of this rental.
