About Tom Hicks

Property manager for 20 years who moved full time to Puerto Vallarta two years ago. Have other vacation rentals in Puerto Vallarta from 2-4 bedrooms in the Romantic Zone

Tom Hicks purchased this bungalow in 2013

Why Tom Hicks chose Puerto Vallarta

I bought this property that was built by the Puerto Vallarta radio station owner in the 1960s and had been in the same family since that time. I updated and renovated the entire property in 2013-2015. The studio was the maid's quarters on the property and was renovated first. I lived there for about 4 months until the main house was completed. I really liked it as everything was in one room. It is spacious for 1-2 people.

What makes this bungalow unique

I liked the property because of its design. It is very unique in terms of the angles of all the rooms. Everything is a triangle or polygon.

Great little Casita in Las Gaviotas, Puerto Vallata

  • 4 of 5

Perfect little gem for a couple. Walking distance to Costco - Wal-Mart and Soriana as well as many Mexican owned restaurants. Puerto Vallarta's best Pizza, Pasta, Tacos and Ceviche are all right around the corner.

Close to the city bus stop 10 minutes to beach - 15 min to Old Town. Quite, clean and a great Landlord. "We Will Return".

Excellent accomodations, private, secure, easy parking. Lovely private patio with access to pool. Owner takes great pride in property and is very responsive. Beautiful neighborhood close to stores. restaurants and entertainment. Nice kitchen, everything is new and works well. Far superior than the suite hotels in the hotel zone. The water pressure is excellent with plenty of hot water. Recently remodeled with high end finishes.

Private, Quiet, Well-appointed & Very Accessibile

  • 4 of 5

Having been given great directions to the Casita, Tom welcomed me and showed me around. The outdoor enclosed private patio made the place seem much larger. The kitchen was very well appointed. A Saturday market was a block away, as well as a butcher and most everything else you might need. Costco is a short walk and Walmart a 5 minute bus ride. Bus transportation is very inexpensive and a 10/15 minute ride to the Romantica Zone. Taxis are also very inexpensive. After a busy day downtown, it was heaven to come back to the quiet and clean air of Tom's Casita. My only disappointment was not being able to access their pool. Instead, I joined the Sapphire Ocean Club( 2 properties from the Blue Chairs) for a small monthly fee. It was interesting that after I had become accustomed to the heat, I seldom used the air conditioning at night. As the temperature dropped at night and with the cross drafts, sleeping was amazingly comfortable. Although someone had previously mentioned about a dog barking and a parrot, it was never an issue for me........and I love my quiet!

I stayed for a month and it seemed like a week.

Highly recommended.

Thank you Tom

The place is in a old historic quarters.

Roads are field stones with many holes to ruin your tires.

The quarter is remodelled and on a different street listed.

No issues about the place itself, however many noticeable happening are to consider if this is where you want to stay for your vacations.

1) if you already know PV it may be easier to navigate.

2) the public beach is as far as 5 kilometers, but canto del sol.

3) if you are a swimmer of ocean waters be careful high weaves and currents.

4) The nights are noisy, if is not the ruster, the Iuana, the cat, the music coming from a corner bar till 5am...the Dogs sure will wake you up.

5)when I asked the owner if he could control these noises, his answer that the dog 2 doors done is the problem, could not do anything...and he owns one german shepherd which barks too much.

6) when he emailed me on thrs. for the checking out procedure on the next monday he mentioned that he was going away for the long week-end.

7) I could not believe that for the 3 next nights no dogs were barking during the night

conclusion: he claims that dogs are needed for protection of property, but disturbing with is own dog his guests is a deterrent to this property rental.

Owner's Response: Every where you go in Mexico in Mexican neighborhoods you have more noise than you may be accustomed to if you are coming from the suburbs of the United States. There are dogs. There are roosters. There are cats. There are donkeys. People are very happy and have lots of friends and have parties. I believe the client was staying with a Mexican woman, whom he never introduced. I would have thought he would have understood the culture. If you have issues with this then you would probably be better off in a hotel or more controlled environment. The area is a neighborhood of expensive homes owned by business owners, physicians, lawyers, and judges. Welcome to Mexico. All the things he mentioned are just part of a trip to Puerto Vallarta.
