About Pam Sims or David Liske

David and I met in the Slocan Valley in 2005. We were married on a dock on Slocan Lake. I've lived here for 25 years and love it. It's a beautiful, peaceful place with a diverse community. I am a landscape painter and sculptor. All the art works in the home are mine and reflect my love of this Valley. Most of the realistic landscape paintings are for sale. The Lodge has beautiful natural lighting and is a perfect art gallery. A dream come true! I offer one-on-one art tutoring at my studio here. (View my portfolio on flickr. Just google Pam Sims.) My other interests include gardening, cooking and photography.

David has worked as a touring musician and managed a large ranch in Alberta. He loves hiking and paddling and plays music locally. We're friendly, easy going and knowledgeable about the area. You'll enjoy complete privacy of the home and yard. We live in a separate house on the property and are here to help if need be.

We look forward to meeting new people from all over the world. We will do our best to make sure you have a comfortable and memorable visit to the Slocan Valley. All peoples are welcome.

Cheers ! Pam

Why Pam Sims or David Liske chose British Columbia

The beauty of this pristine river valley area was what attracted David and I. Peace and Quiet. Fresh air and clean water. It's a safe place to live, and be accepted for who you are. Many creative and thoughtful people come here to escape urban and mainstream cultures. The Valley is known for spiritual healing, freedom of choice and Back-to-the-Land lifestyles. It's small communities are vibrant, positive and cooperative.

We are a 45 minute drive from Nelson, which is known as the 'Best Small Town Arts Community', in Canada. It's skiing scene is world renowned. We are a 45 minute drive to Castlegar and it's airport and mainstream stores. We are a 3.5 hours drive to the International Airport in Spokane, Washington.

What makes this lodge unique

I have enjoyed creating an artistic living space and bringing the outdoors to the interior with large windows and skylights and houseplants.

Every room is beautifully lit with natural light, and has views of the garden and surrounding trees. Beautiful flower beds bloom from April to October. The large fish pond blooms with lilies and attracts birds and wildlife.

There is room to gather and connect, as well as have privacy. The house has 1723 square feet of floor space, on 2 floors, & a 14 foot ceiling in the main room. The entire home is beautifully finished with custom crafted woodwork, antiques and art. The romantic master bedroom space is 24 by 11 feet, with heritage wallpapers. There's room to waltz. The home is quiet and private, yet near to stores, restaurants & gas station. We like being able to walk or bike to the store or the river. It has easy year round access. The town of Winlaw is very friendly and welcoming.

Guestbook comments from the owner

House was clean, well stocked, and pleasing to the eye. Pam can not do enough for you. The place has a wow factor of ten.

Owner's Response: Thanks Sue, We sure enjoyed having you stay at our Lodge again. We now have all the basics for young children: 2 cribs, playpen, highchairs, potty chair, baby bathtub, diaper bin, books, toys, shade canopy, kiddie pool and slide. This makes it easier when you are traveling by air, especially and also gives you more room in your car when driving. See you next year!

Paradise Valley Lodge - Slocan Valley

  • 5 of 5

Large lodge with 3 bedrooms and a sleeping loft. Beautiful artwork and furniture. Very comfortable and perfect for a long weekend or longer stay! Much preferred to a hotel room. :) The yard was also beautiful and Pam had so many tips and recommendations for us. The food in the area is delicious and the lodge is not too far from many hikes and Nelson, BC. Great stay, thanks again!

Paradise Valley Lodge

The Lodge offers really everything you could want, it's wonderfully clean and comfortable and the setting is beautiful and quiet. The location is was perfect for us, between Slocan and Nelson with good trails within walking distance. The views from almost all the windows in the house is wonderful, especially from the upstairs bathroom. Our hosts, Pam and David are wonderful, friendly and knowledgable of the area and always eager to help if required. The lodge is perfect for those simply looking for a comfortable base to explore from, or those that may want to spend some quiet time in this quiet setting. I would encourage anyone to stay at this lodge in any season.

Canadian Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This home is very clean and has a very relaxing atmosphere. The kitchen has two stoves for larger parties. The yard has plenty of natures surroundings, including a patio and barbeque gas grill. A fire pit for evening relaxation, was such an additive. The owners are wonderful and have maps and lots of tourist info printed and lots of handouts. Pam is so helpful in ensuring we did not get lost.

There were many golf courses in the area and several hot water springs within an hour or so. The golf course within about 10 minutes has wonderful food. There are mini markets nearby for quick groceries too. We will definite return!

Absolutely fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

Pam and David were fantastic hosts .They went above and beyond to try and accommodate our needs. We have a special needs child prone to wandering and we had no issues with the yard which is beautifully landscaped and fenced. Pam also put me in contact with a therapist in the area to help enrich my son's abilities. They sent us tons of information about the area and things to do. David even took my husband fishing. The lodge itself was absolutely beautiful. Lots of fridge space, Huge bathrooms, and bedrooms, and very clean. We were so comfortable we didn't want to leave. What made our holiday even more special is that my son did not want to leave. He felt so comfortable at this beautiful place, We will definately be back.

Great place for vacation. Love the owners, PAM and DAVID

  • 5 of 5

I along with some of my family friends spent couple of days in this place. We came from Calgary. The owners, Pam and David, both were so helpful. They provided all the important information about the place, how to reach there, provided us many detail maps and many more. While our stay, we found Pam so much caring. She treated us like her own guest. There are ample amount of space in the house. Very big and pretty new BBQ machine, fire-pit, nice veranda, big kitchen. I strongly recommend people to be the guest of Pam and David.
