Welcoming and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

This property in the Capitol Hill/H street area was a cozy row home that was just what we, a family of 4 including 2 adult children needed for a long weekend in DC. We are walkers so did not mind the approximately 1 mile walk to the middle of the mall (less to the Capitol). There is a cozy first floor living room without a TV which was perfect, as well as an upstairs living/family room with a nice TV. The kitchen was well stocked, small but adequate with nice appliances. The master bedroom's king bed was extremely comfortable and I loved hearing some street sounds (not loud at all). There are many restaurants on H street, a scant one block away. We definitely will try to learn to this VRBO.

The property was exactly as presented, close to Union Station, restaurants, grocery and transport.

It was great having a place to relax and get some down time after busy days in the the DC area. We used the Giant grocery store a block away for incidentals and basic supplies. We did breakfast at the house every morning and had all the basic supplies, dishes and appliances necessary. There were several restaurants within walking distance and a coffee house two blocks away. Union Station was only three and a half blocks away and that made it convenient to catch ground transportation or the Metro to wherever we needed to go. If you are visiting the DC area for vacation to see the monuments and museums they are all very readily accessible from this location. We had two couples and one teen and the accommodations suited our needs. The dining table in the kitchen would not seat more than three comfortably. There is a full seating for six in the dining room but we managed with the kitchen table as one couple were early risers and our teen got up later.

The neighborhood is nice, tree lined streets and we were not concerned for our safety even when returning later in the evening.

Lovely home in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of two adults, a teenager and a "tween" stayed in Mark's house in early July. We couldn't have been happier with our choice of accommodation. It is situated in a great, leafy street close to Union Station which made it easy to access since we travelled to DC by train. The house immediately felt like we were at home with the lights on for our arrival and the excellent decor. We loved all the artwork in all the rooms.

The master bed was very comfortable and the walk in robe and ensuite were great.

One daughter slept on the sofa bed near the top of the stairs and one slept in the second bedroom. Those beds were okay for the girls, but the sofa bed would be uncomfortable for an adult.

There are great shops, cafes and restaurants within a 10 minute walk from the home, so lots of choice.

We would definitely recommend this home and would certainly look to stay here again next time we come back to DC.

Thanks Mark for letting us stay in your lovely home.

Great location, responsive owners, and great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

I arrived around midnight after dealing with a lost bag so it was dark, and I was tired. I couldn't get the lock box to open to retrieve the key. Fortunately, Mark, the owner, picked up my call and came out to rescue me. Mark is responsive and very attentive. He stays in a separate apartment under the row house. The lock box was fixed.

The row house is located a few blocks from Union Station where you can pick up the metro. There is also a large grocery store, coffee shops, and great restaurants 2 blocks away. Try the Etheopic Restaurant. Its was a great experience with great service.

The row house community was quiet, with the exception of some sirens and backup alarms on the big trucks. Much quieter than downtown, which is where I usually stay. The neighborhood consists of families and professionals. I felt safe after getting through the panic of being stranded in an unfamiliar place at midnight on the first night. You will see a lot of people walking dogs.

The interior is spacious, well-maintained, and clean. The beds were comfortable. The cabinets were well stocked with kitchenware and utensils. Mark went above and beyond by stocking the fridge with a selection of a few beers, wine, and condiments. There was ample supply of toilet paper, trash bags, and paper towels. It's worth mentioning because I've stayed at many homeaway and VRBO places where we get a single roll of paper products; a couple of trash bags; no salt, pepper, or basic condiments; and no wine and beer. We have to go buy everything ourselves. It's actually quite a cost savings and an added touch that sets this property above the others, in my opinion.

There are 2 bedrooms and a loft area upstairs. We brought a 20 and 16 year old, and the loft area has a comfy couch that pulls out and a TV with access to Netflix, etc. They had plenty of private space away from us (the parental figures).

There is a 2 level deck in the back with a grill, a bistro set, and a table and chairs for 4. The exterior could use a little love, like paint and some repairs to the deck. The furniture was in good condition. We spent several evenings out there enjoying the space.

I would definitely come back here with a family.
