Benagil in the Algarve.: The Algarve has a Mediterranean climate with hot dry sunny summers and warm mild winters. Spring and autumn are also sunny with cooler evenings. It enjoys over 300 sunshine days a year. In the winter the days are sunny and cooler. One of the delights of the Algarve and the immediate coast at Benagil is that the sea breeze is refreshing in the hot summer. The weather is rarely grey, if there is a shower then it passes quickly and the sun soon emerges again. The light is superb, reflecting off the sea, cliffs and beaches, it is uplifting at all times of the year. The house, as well as having superb sea and natural parkland views, also has wonderful dizzying sunsets.
Please ask if you would like to see more photographs of our home and its surroundings.
Local environment: The Algarve offers a wide range of entertainment and activities with something to suit everyone. From Casa Atlantico it is possible to walk along the Coastal path west to Praia de Rocha or East to Armacao de Pera. You will see spectacular cliffs and golden beaches, watch the fishing and yachting vessels, see the birds circling, smell the perfumed Mediterranean vegetation and visit the old churches like Senora da Rocha, and other landmarks along the way. Some beaches are unique as they are accessible only from the sea; others such as the unspoilt beaches of Praia de Marinha, Praia de Barraquinho and Praia da Albandeira can be approached by almost hidden pathways and are never very crowded. As well as walking there are opportunities for fishing, golf, scuba diving, parasurfing, sailing, horse-riding and photography.
Local activities: Benagil and Carvoeira have fishing festivals as one of their long-standing fishing traditions. Further inland the villages of Porches, Pera, and Ferragudo maintain their old world charm with local crafts such as pottery and ceramics being widely available. The fascinating Moorish castle at Silves and markets at Lagoa and Carvoiera are also worth a visit as is the mountain area of Monchique with its spas and copper crafts. Larger settlements like Vilamoura, Faro, Armacao, Portimao and Lagos are no more than 30 minutes away with their bustling old quarters, markets, lively squares and restaurants and cafes. There is much of historic and cultural interest to explore.
It is possible to get to Lisbon in 3 hours, Seville in 2.5hours and Tavira, Cordoba and Gibraltar/Morocco are also accessible. The route along the west coast of Portugal is a so a possibility by car as is exploring inland and northern Portugal.
Most of the towns and cities mentioned can also be asccessed by a train ride.
It is unique and the owner is experienced in helping guests. Please get in touch with Angela by phone or email to discuss bookings.
A wonderful location- the best in the whole of the Algarve.
I thought I had submitted this review when we got back from our holiday last year - it was only when I went to re-book for this year that I realised I hadn't! So here goes....
I went here with my wife and 15-year old daughter last June. We all agreed that this was a perfect holiday location (for us anyway - if you are looking for night-life, then this might not be YOUR perfect location). Main attractions here were the 2 lovely beaches within about 10 minutes walking distance. Both beaches are small, but certainly were never too packed when we were there. There is also a shared pool at this location, though as other people have mentioned, we would often have it to ourselves. There were quite a few restaurants within walking distance; one was a bit mediocre (not bad), and others that we went to were very nice. Staff were very nice in all the restaurants.
We hired a car which was handy for shopping - it's about 4 miles to nearest shops (as far as I know) so I don't think we would have managed otherwise. The only other possible downside is that the area is quite hilly - this suited me as it was very scenic, but it might not suit someone with mobility difficulties. The house itself was lovely. It had everythng we needed in terms of furniture and utensils, etc. Also had a nice table and chairs in the front porch which we used for lunches sometimes. The big attraction was the rooftop terrace - apart from being a good place to hang out your washing, we would often head up in the evening to sit at the table and chairs there and have a drink watching the sun go down over the cliffs - a nice start to our evening. The house is part of a development of houses, but it is a very quiet locatioin nonetheless.
All in all, we found this to be a perfect holiday location for us. The area was always quiet and peaceful despite the fact that there were 2 splendid beaches beside us. If you want a relaxing holiday, it would be hard to do better in my opinion.
My wife and I have travelled to the Algarve twice a year for over 15 years. During that period of time we have stayed at a number of properties. This year, (2016) we stayed at Casa Atlantico, in Benagil. This was a marvelous residence, on the cliffs. It was spotlessly clean, with all of the modern amenities one would wish for. The property managers were first rate. The owner of the home was a pleasure to deal with. We hope to return in the fall. We can't say enough good things about this excellent rental.
This was a perfect place for our visit to the Algarve. Benagil is a small community that was very relaxing to return to after exploring the region or great to just stay around the area for the day. The pool was large and often we were there by ourselves. We enjoyed Casa Atlantico, it met all our needs plus more. The roof top terrace was a favorite, the property was clean and tidy, the trails for the cliff walks were just minutes away, there was easy access to get to the beach and restaurants. The property is well described and what we expected. The manager when needed was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again and would recommend to others. We really enjoyed this end of the road tucked away location.
Our family of 4 (2 children ages 6 and 8) just stayed at Casa Atlantico for 6 days, and we could not be happier. The property was clean and well equipped and was a very nice size for our family. We loved the rooftop patio, and enjoyed breakfasts and even one dinner up top with it's spectacular views of the ocean. We also loved having a small BBQ/grill in the front yard for cooking.
Our young boys loved the shared swimming pool which was well maintained, and also the 2 beaches that are within a short walk from the property. Be careful of the nearby cliffs if you have young children, but if you are careful, the cliffs offer a wonderful view/experience for a family stroll.
The onsite property management was helpful and offered good suggestions for day trip options (we did the Wildwatch Dolphin tour out of Ferragudo which was excellent). Information and instructions that were sent with confirmation were very detailed, and the information provided inside the unit on appliances and local services were a great help.
We highly recommend this property for those seeking an affordable place with spectacular sea views and access. Thank you Angela!
We had the best holiday- the beaches were gorgeous- we were on Carvalho one day, Benagil the next. Fab fish restaurants and exciting boat trips. The neighbours were friendly and help was always on hand from the managers nearby. We could see the sea from the pool which felt like our own private pool. The house is very tastefully decorated with lovely views of the Atlantic- it is very well named- and would suit couples or families. We would like to recommend Casa Atlantico very highly. For a special occasion or a short break- this is the place!
Casa Atlantico is a little piece of heaven. The house was perfect-we are a couple and we had my elderly afther with us for our holiday. The views were magnificent from every floor, the outlook over the nature reserve and the quiet neighbourhood afforded peace yet plenty of interest. It is possible to walk directly onto the Algarve coastal path and to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Benagil and Carvalho within 2 minutes walk. We also enjoyed boat trips and quad bike tours. Our elderly father also had a super time- the downstairs cloakroom and easy front access making him relaxed and restful an we all enjoyed sitting by the pool.
You will find every mod con in the house, including a washing machine and air con. For the first time in along history of holidaying abroad, we have found somewhere ' we will definitely look forward to returning to!' We thoroughly recommend this lovely Benagil house.
This stunning Benagil/Carvoeiro coastal location is ideal for walking, golf, pony trekking, sailing, surfing and swimming. The villages of Porches, Pera, Ferragudo and Armacao de Pera maintain their old world charm with local crafts such as pottery and ceramics being widely available. The fascinating Moorish castle at Silves and markets at Lagoa and Carvoiero are also worth a visit as is the mountain area of Monchique with its spas and copper crafts. Larger settlements like Vilamoura, Faro, Armacao, Portimao and Lagos are no more than 30 minutes away with their bustling old quarters, markets, lively squares and restaurants and cafes. There is much of historic interest to explore in the Algarve. For those seeking even further adventure, Lisbon and Seville are no more that two and a half hours way by motorway and there are many organised one, two or three day visits to these place as well as to Morocco. There is information in the villa about such trips.
Golf: As well as being a stone’s throw from two golden sandy beaches, golf enthusiasts will enjoy Val de Milho, an established 9 hole, par 3 course which is only 5 minutes away. The Quinta do Gramacho golf course and Val da Pinta, where you will find the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, are within a ten minute drive.
