Huge hallways and an elevator are at your disposal. If you come by car we might even have parking spot for your in our building.

Interaction with Guests

I live in the same building and I am more than happy to show you around and show you all the spots of the beaten track to get to know Antwerp inside out.

The Neighborhood

Restaurants, shops, designers studio's, theater, cinema as well as the student district are all around us. A wonderful food market on Saturday and Sunday at your doorstep.

An epicenter for high, avant-garde fashion, Antwerp's also known for its expansive, intricate and gloriously labyrinthine markets. In winter there's the Christmas Market in December and once a year, on August 15, the Rubens Market transports shoppers back to the 15th Century as medieval merchants strive to live up to the Baroque lifestyle of its nominal father, Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens.

Here are five almost weekly markets for you to get down on, just like Antwerpens.

1. Vrijdagmarkt: For over four centuries, since 1547, Antwerpens and their admirers have flocked to Vrijdagmarkt every Friday (Vrijdagmarkt translates to Friday market) to auction off second-hand goods. From antique furniture and books to vintage clothing and jewelry, Vrijdagmarkt has it all, every Friday morning, every week, for everyone.

2. Lijnwaadmarkt: Located in Antwerp's historic center, this weekly Saturday flea market is sure to offer chotchke-seeking tourists a rare, authentic find. Prices are little more expensive than at some other markets, but the one-of-a-kind wares available here are worth the extra Euros.

3. Sint-Jansvliet: Sint-Jansvliet has quite the personality. It's a basketball court most of the week but on Sundays from 9-5pm it transforms into a wonderful, beloved antique market that was from (phone number hidden) called Kleine Tunnelplaats after the pedestrian tunnel that runs alongside it, but Antwerpens demanded the old name be revived, and so it was done.

(Vrijdagmarkt, back in the day.)

4. Vogelenmarkt: Sint-Jansvliet has some competition from 8am-1pm on Sunday, when the "bird market" spreads its wings to showcase flowers, fabrics, antiques, exotic birds and pets at Theaterplein Square in Oudevaartplaats.

5. Exotic International Market: Though it doesn't have as striking a name as Vogelenmarkt, this straight-forwardly named Saturday bazaar, also at Oudevaartplaats, features not only local, native Belgian products, but also spices, beads, fabrics, cheeses, nuts and fishes from Turkey, Morocco and various far-flung (website hidden) Market: The greenest of the green descend on Falconplein in the Red Light District to buy up the most eco-friendly products around at this weekly Sunday (8am-4pm) event.

We stayed for 7 nights as our base for exploring Antwerp and taking day trips by train to nearby cities. The spaciousness of the place, and excellent design really was appreciated. Ernst is a special person; a really caring and helpful host.

All the previous guests have said it all. Ernst is very welcoming, organized, and the suite is as just a dream come true...... We slept soundly and comfortably in the loft area bedroom.Beautiful bathroom with large tub and bathrobes and plush towels- very elegant - Loved the kitchen with all the necessary pots, pans, well stocked kitchen - thank you a million times for that it's great to just shop for food and not have to buy basics that you can't travel with- well done and much appreciated- you feel like a local and we hope to come back. There are wonderful art books to peruse, lots of brochures and maps, guide books to help with sigh seeing and a well documented binder with Ernst favourites in the city. We hope to come back and stay longer

Beautiful and stylish.

  • 5 of 5

It was very pleasant stay in this spacious and stylish two floors apartment. Located in the center of the city just 3-5 minutes walk from Rubens museum, and cathedral. In the middle of shopping district, but located on small quiet street this apartment make ours vacation even better.

The host is very nice. If I visit Antwerp one more time, i stay only there.

Thank you again Ernst.

Spacious, Central, Superb!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful four night stay here in the heart of Antwerp.

The description and photographs of this second floor apartment are entirely accurate and our host Ernst could not have been more helpful and welcoming. There is a lift to all floors including the car park in the basement .

It was spotlessly clean and had a very effective heating system.

The guest briefing information is extensive and detailed including bars, restaurants, supermarkets and attractions.

The apartment is so near the centre of the city that we walked everywhere, save for one tram journey to visit the De Koninck brewery.

We travelled by car and availed ourselves of the on-site parking option, but you could reach the apartment by train and tram as the Route 11 tram from the station stops virtually right outside the apartment .

We preferred to eat in at night, cooking in the spacious and well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, buying our produce from the Supermarket just 400 metres away. In the same street is the bakery for your breakfast croissants!

The sheer space in this apartment is a real joy and you have a lovely second floor view of the St. Jacobskirk opposite and the comings and goings on the road and tram route below.

Thank you very much Ernst, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would have no hesitation in recommending this apartment to others and look forward to the opportunity to return.

Fantastic Location with Old Style Charm

  • 5 of 5

What a view from the spacious windows!! Very clean and well equipped. After being on the road for 6 weeks, this is the most comfortable bed we have slept in. The loft bedroom was a little gem. Ernst could not have been more helpful. Although the historic building could use some work we loved the apartment and the location.

Be sure to visit the Red Star Line Museum and take the Antwerp Bike Tour. Loved the underground elevator. The Fiskebar Restaurant was delicious and so was Grammas.

Owner's Response: It was a shame that we could not have spend some more time together, because I would have loved to show you some hidden places in Antwerp, but as you know your stay coincided with my travels :(, But nevertheless I am pleased you both had a fabulous time in Antwerp. Also that you enjoyed our original and historic building dating back from 1845, with its fantastic views on the cathedral which is the last resting place of Pieter Paul Rubens. As a frequent travellers myself I know how important it is to have a fantastic bed and all amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Please come back soon, each season has its special feel to Antwerp Regards, Ernst
