Overview

About the property

THE PERFECT PLACE TO RELAX AND ENJOY ALL SORTS OF NEW EXPERIENCES.

WE ARE LOCATED IN A FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD OF 65 HOMES, EACH SET ON AN ACRE OF LAND. FROM THE FRONT I CAN SEE HUMAN NEIGHBORS, BUT FROM THE REAR YOUR GUEST HOUSE PROVIDES UNSURPASSED VIEWS OF SONORAN DESERT FLORA AND ALL SORTS OF ANIMALS AND BIRDS. MY FAVORITE ARE THE ADORABLE GAMBEL'S QUAIL. BESIDES BIRDS, FROM YOUR BEDROOM WINDOW YOU CAN WATCH THE GROUND SQUIRRELS AND BUNNIES MAKING PIGS OF THEMSELVES AT A FEEDING STATION. THE MAIN WATER STATION ATTRACTS THE BIGGER ANIMALS. ALWAYS COYOTES, BUT SOMETIMES DEER AND JAVELINA. JACK RABBITS ALSO FREQUENT THE YARD.

WE ARE IN AN AREA KNOWN AS PICTURE ROCKS BECAUSE OF THE INDIAN PETROGLYPHS FOUND IN THE AREA. IT IS EXTREMELY LAID BACK.

About Pat McMorrow

I AM A NEW YORKER WHO MOVED HERE 18 YEARS AGO VIA BASKING RIDGE, NJ. AS A CHILD I BECAME CHARMED BY ARIZONA THROUGH A SUBSCRIPTION TO ARIZONA HIGHWAYS THAT MY GRANDMOTHER RECEIVED AS A GIFT. MY COLLEGE ROOMMATE MOVED TO THE TUCSON AREA PROBABLY 35 YEARS AGO AND WE VISITED HER FAMILY MANY TIMES AS THEY MOVED FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION. I WAS NOT THAT IMPRESSED, NICE HOUSES, BUT NOT THE AZ FROM THE MAGAZINE. THEN THEY MOVED TO PICTURE ROCKS WEST AND I WAS HOOKED. I VISITED AT EASTER AND MOVED IN BY AUGUST, AND I HAVE NEVER REGRETTED MY CHOICE. WE COULD HAVE BOUGHT FOR WHAT WE SPENT ON OUR ADDITIONS, HOUSES IN THE PRESTIGIOUS FOOTHILLS, BUT WE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD OUR ENVIRONMENT AND EASY ACCESS TO ANYWHERE ON I 10.

Pat McMorrow purchased this house in 1997

Why Pat McMorrow chose Picture Rocks West

Because everyone who loves nature and the most relaxed, friendly environment love it. I can help you plan a very varied SW vacation. Or I can provide you with a getting away from it all vacation.

What makes this house unique

This guest house is removed from the noise of civilization, but a half hour from all the best of Tucson.

Notes:
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE FOR YOUR VISIT WITH US. WHAT WE DON'T HAVE IN-HOUSE WE WILL KNOW WHERE TO REFER YOU. LIVE ENTERTAINMENT IS PLENTIFUL AT MANY VENUES INCLUDING TWO CASINOS. BROADWAY IN TUCSON AND THE GASLIGHT THEATER USUALLY SELL OUT SO MAKE RESERVATIONS BEFORE YOU COME. 'WE HAVE A WONDERFUL SYMPHONY, BOTH CLASSICAL AND POPS. THERE ARE TWO GOOD CAVES TO VISIT AND I WOULD SUGGEST AN OVERNIGHT TO VISIT TOMBSTONE AND TAKE A RAIL CAR INTO A MINE SHAFT IN BISBEE. KARSHNER CAVERNS IS ON THE WAY BACK. OH, AND ONE MORE VERY IMPORTANT SITE TO VISIT IS THE BIOSPHERE. FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL, MEXICO IS WITHIN A 2 HOUR DRIVE. I ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION THE GEM SHOW WHICH STARTS IN LATE JAN. AND LASTS FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. IT IS SAID TO BE THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD AND VENDORS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD SET UP IN HUGE TENTS AND HOTELS ALL OVER TOWN. ANOTHER BIG EVENT IN TUCSON IS THE RODEO PARADE, THE LARGEST NON MECHANIZED IN THE COUNTRY, AND THIS STARTS A WEEK LONG DAILY RODEOS.

An Amazing Desert Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for the month of March, 2016. We could not have been happier! The guesthouse was as comfortable as any home. It has a big kitchen with a gas stove, a large bedroom, lots of storage space, good Wi Fi connection, cable TV and great views of many desert plants, some of which were flowering.

The layout of the property consists of the main house and two car attached garage in-line with the house. The quest house is behind the garage. This provides for a large L-shaped covered patio behind the living quarters, which was great for lounging, reading and cocktails. There is a hot tub on the far end of the patio, which was a bonus for us.

Pat was a great hostess. She was available, but respected our privacy. She also provides a lot or resource material for things to do in the area. We enjoyed the many birds, gambels quail, doves, humming birds, etc, which were attracted to Pat’s feeders. We will miss the three little dogs who scampered over to say hello every morning.

We went hiking most days. There are many trails available locally within the Saguaro National Forest and Tucson Mountains. Our favorites were the Hugh Norris trai and the King’s Canyon trail, which are real close to the Saguaro Desert Museum near Pat’s house. Catalina State park to the north west also had some nice trails (don’t go on a weekend).

We would not hesitate to rent this again and highly recommend this house to couples interested in a stay in the Tucson area.

Owner's Response: I also enjoyed your stay and hope you come back here the next time it gets too cold up north. April is also beautiful. The cactus are all in bloom now and the Saguaro in bud.

Beautiful desert retreat

  • 5 of 5

If you want to be in the desert and close to everything at the same time, this place is great. I loved relaxing on the porch watching the wildlife and beautiful sunsets. The stars at night took my breath away and I marveled at the beauty of Saguaro National Park every time I made the short drive into town The Sonora Desert Museum is close by and I recommend all newcomers to the area to visit.

I am looking forward to my next visit to this beautiful area and homey guesthouse!

Peace and Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this home many times over the years. It is a home away from home. The guest house is comfortably furnished and very clean. The back bedroom window looks out onto endless desert and where you have the opportunity to see all sorts of desert life. Picture Rocks is a short drive outside of Tucson and only minutes away from The University of Arizona, Fourth Avenue, and downtown. If you like hiking there are numerous trails to explore in the nearby Tucson and Catalina Mountains. After your hike you can soak in the hot tube and at night you can sit out by a bonfire, watch the stars and listen to distant coyotes howl. It is a truly magical place to stay. Pat is a wonderful and attentive host. She is quite knowledgeable about the area and will make you feel like family. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy the simple, rustic beauty of the desert. I wish I could be there right now!

Our favorite place to stay in the Tucson area!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this guest house for several winter trips to the desert. The house and the views and desert access are exactly as advertised. The house is clean, well furnished and very comfortable. We feel as if we are at home, rather than in a rented space. It is neither over or under done, a rare feat in our guest house experiences. Pat is a perfect hostess, she has the wonderful and unusual quality of knowing how to be just available and helpful enough without being intrusive. We've never found this quality in any other guest house owner and value it highly. While staying here you will truly feel as if you are experiencing the desert and every year we see many wonderful desert animals and cactus right out of our windows or front porch. No need to go anywhere to enjoy the unique Sonoran Desert. On the other hand, if you love to hike, as we do, then it is just moments (literally) to some of the best trails in the Tucson area. I-10 is easy to access and it is a very easy drive to the downtown area, U of A, 4th Avenue, and so on. We cannot say enough about how unique it is to be able to stay in some of the most stunning, quiet, unspoiled desert in southern Arizona yet within minutes be taking in all the attractions that the city of Tucson offers. To top it off, the sunset's from Pat's guest house are magnificent, as are the stars at night! A unique and comfortable place.

THE MOST FAMOUS ATTRACTIONS IN THE TUCSON AREA ARE IN OUR VALLEY: OLD TUCSON STUDIOS AND MY FAVORITE, THE SONORAN DESERT MUSEUM. YOU CAN SEE KITT PEAK FROM THIS PROPERTY WHICH IS WELL WORTH A VISIT, BUT IT IS ALSO INDICATIVE OF THE BEAUTIFUL CLEAR SKYS THAT WE ENJOY. STAR GAZING IS SPECTACULAR. HIKERS HAVE THEIR CHOICE OF EVERY TYPE OF TRAIL. THERE ARE AT LEAST TWO STABLES WHERE YOU CAN RENT HORSES. TUCSON IS VERY FAMOUS FOR BIKING AND SPORTS UP TO 55 MILES OF BIKE TRAILS AROUND THE AREA. THERE ARE MANY LOCATIONS TO RENT GOOD BIKES AND ALSO MOTORCYCLES IF THAT IS YOUR PASSION. SOME VERY POPULAR ATTRACTIONS ARE DUE EAST OF HERE. THE TRAM INTO SABINO CANYON IS HIGH ON MY LIST, AS IS THE DRIVE TO THE TOP OF MT. LEMMON. AS YOU CLIMB YOU PASS THROUGH 3 DISTINCT VEGATATION REGIONS AND LOSE 30 DEGREES OF TEMPERATURE.
