An enclosed solarium is the perfect place for some peaceful relaxation. A selection of beautiful beaches are just minutes away. Lanzarote: This entirely unique and exotic island was created by the volcanic activity of years past. During a visit to Fire Mountain, in the Timanfaya national park, you can see food being cooked over craters using lava stones, and also camels leading visitors to the seat of the 'fire devil'. Other attractions are the fantasy grotto 'Jameos del Agua' and 'Cueva de los Verdes' which are among the longest lava tunnels in the world. In the south is the emerald lagoon 'El Golfo' and the golden beaches of Papagayo. Lanzarote boasts the best weather in the Canary Islands. It has the driest climate and most sunshine making for an unbeatable holiday location. Playa Blanca is often described as a sleepy little fishing village in the south of the island, but in truth it has long outgrown this tag and is now emerging as the islands fastest growing hot spot. Development has been especially rapid here with the coastline now commandeered by luxury hotels and beautiful Spanish style villas.
Playa Blanca.: Situated at the southernmost tip of the island is the picturesque resort of Playa Blanca, from where you can enjoy marvellous views of Fuerteventura and Los Lobos. Playa Blanca (White Beach) enjoys the most hours of sunlight on the island, and arguably the best and safest beaches on the Island, from Playa Flamingo with its white sandy beach and gently sloping calm water, the larger beach of Playa Dorada with jet skis, banana boats etc available for hire, to the unforgettable wilder beaches of Papagoya. The ferry port provides a gateway to Fuerteventura, making Playa Blanca an excellent base for those who enjoy island hopping. Despite the last decade of development the town itself retains much of its charm, especially along the sea front where there are plenty of good restaurants, many of which offer views across to the simmering lights of Fuerteventura. Playa Blanca is now emerging as an attractive and more upmarket alternative to the other resorts on the Island.
Night Life.: While the relatively new Marina Rubicon offers an attractive alternative to the main seafront promenade for atmospheric bars and restaurants, there is a good selection of bars and restaurants along the promenade, with many of them providing live music most nights of the week. Family entertainment / shows are predominantly based in the many excellent hotels and cater to a wide variety of tastes. For those who prefer night clubs or disco bars, there are a small number available. Also, the much lively resort of Puerto Del Carmen is a mere 20 minute drive away. Car hire is recommended in Lanzarote, however there is a bus stop and taxi rank located just a 2 minute walk from the villa & fares are reasonable. The bus runs half hourly from early till late.
Really enjoyed our time at this villa - we had rented a car and used it to sightsee, but you can easily walk to the marina. Nearby shop very handy too. Some empty properties nearby, but found this lovely and quiet, as if we lived there ourselves! 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms more than adequate, inc super master bedroom. Best beds ever slept on holiday - foam memory, all new and clean. Great TV and lounge, kitchen has all a family can need, inc wash machine, oven and more.
Found pool bit chilly even with heating, but this was Feb and the sea is prob warm, but such a major treat having the space was delightful. BBQ outside if you fancy, lots of loungers and tons of spare towels.
People who let us in very helpful and friendly. Hired vodafone dongle and laptop from local Irish guy, cheap for a week if you work for yourself etc, ask at the local mobile phone shop for his details.
Mairead was really helpfull explaining booking and deposits etc, plus villa was all we hoped and more, would def go again. Good choice of local restaurants and seaside walks from marina too.
Local cabs nearby easy to get from Playa Blanca and cheap too.
As my first experience hiring separate villa and flights, this was 10 out of 10 and it was all made so easy and straightforward by Mairead.
I hope lots of people enjoy this and look after this gorgeous villa - fixtures and fittings all good quality, everything is thought of for you!!
Thanks Mairead and family - we had a brilliant time!
Nice place. No complaints. Pool good temp. WiFi and TV good. Sun trap area.
Stay from 27/7 - 05/08. Listed as Luxury Villa. We complained to the owner who changed the listing to Villa which speaks for itself. We arrived at the villa on the evening of the 27/7. On the morning of the 28/7 we pulled back the pool cover and were met with a green, murky dirty pool (Not Crystal Blue as photo). We contacted the villa mgr who visited and was quite surprised to see that the pool was on recirculate and not filter, he advised that in his opinion that the pool should be OK to swim in, we were not happy about this and contacted the villa owner.
1st email from Owner: "Apparently the pool filter has broken and need replacing, unfortunately we have no control over unexpected equipment breakdown."
2nd email from Owner: "The pool filter was playing up and the hope was that by re-circulating and keeping the chemicals topped up it would last for your stay, at which time the filter would be replaced, this was in an effort not to disrupt your holiday with major repairs that could possible take 2 days to complete." (we weren't given the opportunity to cancel if the filter was playing up, and there was no usable pool).
The pool guy advised that the last clean on the pool was Sat 23/7, therefore the owner thought it was acceptable for us to swim in pool water that had not been cleaned prior to our arrival (previous guest(s) left Tue 26/7). The filter was replaced on Tue 2/8 (2 Hrs Work) Wed 3/8 (40 Mins work). Although the filter was replaced this did not clear up the pool and it remained green and unusable for the rest of our holiday.
Not a newly-built villa. Light fittings were hanging from ceilings (exposed wires), dust on picture frames & fan, food dirt under the dishwasher and the showers were dirty. Mattress protector on the master bed ripped, mattress and pillows heavily stained, No pillow protectors, broken patio chairs, broken sunloungers, No beach towels, DVD player, oven gloves or shower mats. No TV for 2 days. Only 1 bath towel per person for the whole of the holiday. No solarium. Paint flaking off the walls and the plaster in the bunk-bed room was coming off the wall, we think there may have been a cockroach nest under the bath as we could hear them and saw them in the bath. Numerous cockroaches on patio at night, had to keep doors shut.
Light fittings and tap fixed. Sunloungers, DVD player & beach towels replaced.
We did not get the villa and pool we paid for and have tried to resolve with owner on return. Had no response.
The property was clean but a few disappointments with amenities. Pool very small compared to photos but would be fine to cool off in hot weather. No iron yet ironing board provided. No interior light in fridge. We could not get tv to work, lady who met us on arrival was not very knowledgeable of property or area. She said good luck with tv and when I asked about local supermarket she said it was a 20 min walk but there was one a 5 min walk which we found ourselves. The area around house is not developed and a lot of empty unfinished houses and we found it quite spooky when walking home in the dark ,maybe if you had a car it would be fine,
Overall a small house with decent beds and furniture and friendly support staff. However, it really is quite small and unusually the entire garden is walled so there is no view of any kind making it quite depressing. Also there is no mainswater supply, so not only does it make you weary of brushing your teeth or washing with the water but halfway through your holiday you may find as we did that a big truck needs to come
In and pump new water. At the time we booked we thought the price was quite low and attractive given the positive reviews we'd otherwise seen, but in retrospect you get what u pay for and this is probably just a fair price. If u really only need a place to sleep and plan to eat mostly out and not spend much time here, its a good low cost solution, but its not for spending lots of time in.
We really enjoyed our stay in Casa Rubicon. The villa is in the area of Playa Blanca we prefer, within walking distance of the Marina Rubicon and even Playa Blanca itself along the beautiful coastal path.
The villa was ideal for us (a retired couple), but would also suit 2 couples travelling together.
It had everything we needed and the privacy and sheltered location of the pool area were perfect.
Supermarket close by and lots of restaurants within walking distance.
Would stay here again.
We loved our stay at Casa Rubicon. The villa is spacious and as described. The pool was heated for us and we did use it daily. It is definitely a suntrap as it is sheltered from the wind. Rory and Terry who manage the property were very helpful and we would definitely recommend the property to family and friends.
The property was clean and well maintained although the sun loungers by the pool could do with being replaced.
It is very quiet around the area and beds are great so conducive for a good nights sleep.
We were pleased to have the Wifi which worked perfectly and all the UK TV channels.
We walked to Papagayo beach and Playa dorado and went into the Marina several evenings for dinner and to the Saturday Market. I would put the walk to the marina at 15mins and another ten minutes on to playa Dorado.
Would go back tomorrow if I could. thanks Mairead
Our beautiful villa is located in the picturesque town of Playa Blanca which is situated at the most southerly point of Lanzarote. It is a mere 20 minute drive from Puerto Del Carmen and 40 minutes from Arrecife airport. Alternatively a 20 minute drive can take you to Timanfaya National Park through some of Lanzarotes most interesting landscape, where the restaurant kitchens are heated by Volcanic power.Playa Blanca is also a port for cruise ships and for ferries to / from Fuerteventura. There are many beautiful beaches in the area, including the famous white beaches of Papagayo and the black sands of El Golfo. Nightlife can be as exciting or relaxed as you wish, with a vast selection of restaurants, music bars and nightclubs. Playa Blanca has much to offer young and old alike. Once you have savoured Playa Blanca with its beautiful beaches and relaxed atmosphere you will return again. If you enjoy shopping, you will find the chic & stylish designer stores at the marina a delight.
Other Activities: Camel Riding, Go-Carting, Bowling, Deep Sea Fishing, Submarine and Boat Excursions, Water Parks, Jet Ski's, Banana Boats.
Golf: Golf is available at Costa Teguise, approx 40 minute drive. A new golf course & sports complex are planned for Playa Blanca, with the former being in close proximity to our villa.
For the keen golfer why not play the championship course at Fuerteventura by taking the ferry across from the harbour which is only 200 metres away. Equipment is available for hire at both courses.
There is a Pitch and Put course next to Playa Dorada beach.
Playa Blanca, like all other tourist resorts, is continuing to develop all the time. Unfortunately, such developments are completely outside our control and it is not always possible to foresee the nature and extent of such work, therefore we ask that you please bear with us over these problems, as they will ultimately benefit you, the holidaymaker. As these matters are completely outside our control we are unable to accept any responsibility for disturbances caused as a result.
The villa is all on one level providing ease of access to all areas.
