About Merrie

Our names are Darrel & Merrie, we met in Williams in 1973, and have been married 42 years. We have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren, all of whom we absolutely adore.

Merrie purchased this house in 2015

Why Merrie chose Grand Canyon

Merrie grew up in the area, and has always called it 'home'. She loves the mountains, pines and oaks, and the quiet pace of the location. She remembers this mountainside community from her childhood, and calls it enchanting. We are confident you will enjoy the property, and make many happy memories there.

What makes this house unique

We found this home in March 2015, and fell in love at first sight. Although it needed a lot of work, we knew we could make it prettier than ever. The views are amazing, both day and night, and the setting is more like being in the country rather than town. We still have a lot of plans for making the property even better, but we want to make it available to you right away. We know you will love it!!!

Simply lovely......

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many VRBO rentals and hands down this was our favorite. We loved everything about the home. It was quaint, very clean and accommodating in every sense. We really loved the town of Williams. It reminded us of a small country town in Indiana (which is where we are from). It was refreshing and peaceful to return home from our day trips to The Grand Canyon National Park, Page and Sedona to the town of Williams and your darling home. We highly recommend this home for a small group or family wanting to visit the Grand Canyon and northern Arizona. Thank you so much, Tony and Michele from Southern Indiana

Beautifully decorated, warm & cozy home in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We loved how this home was newly renovated and decorated! It had everything we needed for our 6 night stay in Arizona. The decor was so warm and inviting -we felt at home the minute we walked in. It is worth mentioning the beds/pillows - they were so comfortable, better than any 5 star hotel could offer! We had to make one call to the owner/Merrie who was very friendly and helpful with our question regarding the shower head (pull down from under the faucet).

The location was perfect for what we wanted to do. The Grand Canyon was only an hour and a half away - we visited it twice. We also spent time in Sedona which is incredibly beautiful. Our last day we took the 3 hour drive to Glen Canyon in Page and did a rafting tour on the Colorado River - totally worth the drive, highly recommend it. There are several restaurants on Route 66 to choose from but our favorite was the Pine Country Restaurant where we had breakfast more than once.

The only minor note to mention is that the lighting on the front stairs was not working so that area was dark when coming back to the house at night. This just needs to be fixed. The driveway & path leading to the front of the house however was well lit.

Thank you for offering your home to us, we had a wonderful & memorable vacation!

Great value, clean home in a convenient location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Bethel Cottage. The home was conveniently located for our visit to the Grand Canyon (about 1 hour to the South Rim). The information provided prior to our trip made the stay easy. The home was clean and had many essentials that were a bonus for our experience - condiments in the fridge, coffee and filters, laundry soap and dryer sheets. The wifi worked well and we had at least 5 devices connected. The beds were comfortable and only minor negative was the creaky floor. We would definitely stay there again if we travel back to the area.

The house is conveniently located to the main street in Williams (less than 1/2 mile) where there are many shops and restaurants. There is also a Safeway grocery store nearby. My husband is a chicken fried steak connoisseur and said the Pine Country Restaurant has the very best he has every had. We also ate at the Station 66 Italian Bistro and found that the food was good, but quite pricey. The service was not the best.

Owner's Response: We do appreciate your taking a few moments to write such a nice review. To address the squeaky floor, they are the original hardwood floors from the home built in 1950. There is that one spot we have not been able to stop, and I apologize for the annoyance, and that you were unable to give our home a full 5 stars.

Perfect house in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Could not ask for a nicer place to stay: beautifully decorated, well stocked, great kitchen, wonderful beds, and prime location. There is nothing I can think of that would take away a five star rating. Grand Canyon is a relatively short drive as well as other interesting places such as Sedona. And Williams, Arizona is one of the friendlier and fun towns to visit. Highly recommended.

Amazing Place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We walked into Bethel Cottage after 2 long days on the road and all 4 of us had a sigh of relief and happiness. This is the place to stay in Williams. It's cozy, comfortable and everything is ready for you. It convenient to William's Main Street, the Grand Canyon and the train depot.

Thank you for opening your home to us and will definitely be back.

Owner's Response: It is such a blessing to share our home with folks like you. I retired from American Express to pursue my calling, to host travelers coming to see the beauty of Northern Arizona. As a native of the area, I am so happy for others to see the wonderful place I grew up in. Thank you for the awesome review, we're so glad you enjoyed Bethel.

Wonderful, clean, cozy home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Bethel Cottage! My husband and I spent 5 days there and enjoyed every bit it. We drove to Sedona one day and did some amazing hiking up Bell Mountain. We took the train to the Grand Canyon one day and hiked for several hours and another day drove up so we could do more hiking and exploring. We watched the sun set at the Desser Tower - doesn't get much better than that!! We spent one day just poking around Williams and doing some shopping. It's a great little town - and a very easy walk from the cottage. I would highly recommend the Red Raven Restaurant in town - we had the best meal of our entire trip there. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better trip - or better accommodations. I hope we make it back some day to Bethel Cottage!! Thank you!
