Bat Cave is small community in the mountains of North Carolina. You can enjoy beautiful winters and warm summers. The community is named for a rare breed of bats the inhabit a nearby cave. Guided tours to the mouth of the cave can be scheduled in the Spring and Summer. This is a beautiful place to get away from the 'busy-ness' of everyday life and enjoy a slower pace where people are friendly and life is calm.

Jon and I were married in 1988. We spent our honeymoon in nearby Chimney Rock. We reside in Kernersville, NC where we were both born and raised. We are parents to 3 wonderful children; Owen, Hannah and Molly. Jon has been employed with Tyco Electronics since 1994. He is a drummer and has played with several bands over the years. He now enjoys playing in our praise and worship band at church. I have spent most of our married life as an at-home mom. I have been blessed to provide child care for some precious children who have touched my life deeply. I have taught pre-school, worked as a substitute teacher in our local schools and worked full time with special needs children where God taught me things I would never have learned otherwise. I am participated in my first international mission trip in the summer of 2012. I accompanied a small group from my local church to Malawi, Africa where we worked with orphans, widows, and special needs children.I returned in the spring of 2014. These trips have been amazing and I hope to be able to return many more times. Jon and I have been greatly blessed and look forward to the opportunity to share our blessings with you.
Sherri Smith purchased this cottage in 2011
We had always vacationed at Ocean Isle Beach. Because Jon loves the mountains so much I decided to try something different the summer of 2011. I began to search online for places in the mountains that still provided swimming and sunbathing opportunities. While browsing on VRBO one day I came across a house in Bat Cave. I booked it for a long weekend and we were hooked! We booked a second visit and it was during that visit that we discovered the little house for sale. We fell in love with it and purchased it several months later. We love the fact that there is so much to do in the area. Our daughter loves to visit the nearby wolf sanctuary/rescue. There is swimming, horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, repelling, ziplining, shopping, and so much more.
We love the quiet, peaceful surroundings. The colors of fall are spectacular! Spring is beautiful and full of color. The wildlife is abundant. We leave all our cares at home!
Had a wonderful weekend with the wife and much needed getaway. House was awesome can't wait to bring the kid's back this summer.
We really enjoyed your home. It was a pleasure to retreat to. The hot tub was really relaxing. After spending many dollars on travel and entertainment for my family the grandkids said their favorite part of vacation was playing in stream and the hottub!
I reserved this lovely house for a weekend retreat for my husband and I with our best friends. The hot tub was a big attraction along with the river.
The river delivered as expected. Very peaceful, beautiful and true to the name, ROCKY!
We were disappointed to turn on the hot tub only to hear the breaker trip off instantly. I e-mailed the owner and within a short time, an electrician showed up. By that evening, the hot tub was the perfect temperature. Yay!
The house was clean, hot tub was pristine, kitchen fully stocked, hot water was HOT, air conditioning was cool... all we needed for a perfect weekend.
We will be back. Possibly this winter to enjoy the fire pit.
Very nice, relaxing and inviting home. Loved the hot tub and the sounds of the creek. All the items you need provided for an at home feel.
This was an excellent riverfront house. The sound of the river rustling behind the house was enough to make you want to extend your stay indefinitely. The view was breathtaking and the accommodations are great for four adults. If you have children they could sleep in the loft area on the futon. The owners made it so simple for you to feel at home with the great selection of dvds for your viewing pleasure and the fully equipped kitchen. Now about the decks...just know that if you go out you will not want to come back in. We stayed in the hot tub whenever we got a chance because the weather was great the weekend after Christmas. Chimney Rock National Park was very very close and the shopping spots were plentiful. If you get a chance you must experience this place for yourself.
My husband & I came here for some relaxing adult time. We're so busy with our kids, sports & church, we needed some "Us" time. The house is in a great location, lots of antiquing, sights to see & things to do. It is very cozy & fully stocked, just bring your food, they supply the rest. They even had firewood for the fire pit downstairs. It has a beautiful view of the river, especially relaxing while stretched out in the large hot tub. Also loved warming by a fire that's right at the waters edge! Loved our trip & loved this home!
