THE SETTING: “Fiddler’s Green” is a uniquely romantic and beautiful beach house on 2 private acres with an oyster shell drive. It was built in 1961 and totally renovated in 2005. The property has dozens of huge trees and 800 feet of private bay front and bayou shoreline. The house sits amidst pines, magnolias, and oak trees hung with Spanish moss. St. Andrews Bay is about a mile wide at this point and naval and commercial shipping vessels are commonly seen going in and out of the bay, providing an enjoyable spectacle. The wildlife is similarly interesting, with the bay attracting many birds including egrets, herons, pelicans and the like. Dolphins occasionally swim up under the dock. (Please see the video! And remember to turn on your sound when you do)
A long thin spit of uninhabited land provides a nice morning beach walk and divides the bay from the bayou; it is home for a group of deer which you are likely to see. The bayou is usually inhabited by an alligator who keeps the fish jumping. (Fishermen are especially fond of this area!) Morning sunrises are spectacular across the bay and in the evening the twinkling lights of St. Andrews create a fairyland view from the house as well as the dock.
THE HOUSE: Is beautifully decorated with antiques and art and is extremely comfortable. The large and fully equipped kitchen has a copper-topped bar open to the water view and to the large central living space which comfortably accommodates all sorts of activities: dining, reading, conversation, TV, fireplace, projects and games. It faces a window wall featuring a 180-degree panoramic view of St. Andrews Bay, providing the constantly changing scene of wildlife and boating activities. There are three bedrooms each with its own bath. Two have queen-sized beds and bay windows with window seats and gorgeous views. The third has extra-long twin beds which can be combined for one king-sized bed. The master bath offers two separate sinks, enclosed toilet room with bidet feature, claw-foot tub, separate stall shower, and walk-in closet. Other rooms include a private office off the kitchen with his and her desks and a laundry room.
CHILDREN: Are welcome at Fiddler’s Green. The beach abounds with fiddler crabs and hermit crabs which children typically delight in observing or capturing for play. There is a swing that is set among the pines with long, long chains, for a long smooth ride. It is convertible for toddlers’ use. There is a portable crib available for infants in the linen closet.
THE BAY and THE DOCKS: The long dock allows for boating but is also a perfect outdoor room for morning coffee and the sunrise or evening cocktails under the stars with a cooling breeze. There are 4 swivel-tilt chairs to allow you to follow the clouds and the wildlife. There is another small dock on the bayou useful for jet skis, canoes, kayaks or small fishing boats. Because tides are variable and can be quite low, the boat you rent or bring needs to have a shallow draw. For a group, pontoon boats work well and are easily rentable at several nearby boat rental facilities; St. Andrews Marina is directly across the bay and provides boat services and gas.
OUR RESTRICTIONS: We will allow only small well-trained pets who you feel confident would not scratch or dirty the furniture. A pet deposit of $300 is required. It will be refunded upon inspection after the guest leaves. We strictly limit the number of overnight guests to 6.
WHAT’S NEARBY: There are two highly rated golf courses within two miles of the house and the nearby Wyndham Bay Point Resort also offers tennis, a spa, restaurants and various other services. St. Andrews State Park is renowned as having “one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.” It is set in the midst of a beautiful 1100 acre wildlife sanctuary. It is only a short drive away as are numerous restaurants including the famous Captain Anderson’s, that offers ferryboat rides to Shell Island and dinner cruises as well as a delicious menu.

We are a long married couple with 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Boyd is a retired Radiologist. His avocation concerns ancestral health. He is widely considered the 'father' of the Paleolithic movement beginning with a seminal paper published by the New England Journal of Medicine and the book 'the Paleolithic Prescription' that followed. It detailed the diet and lifestyle of our remote ancestors and how that relates to current health promotion and disease prevention issues. He is a 'health nut' who works out every day. Boyd is originally from the state of Maine, to which they return every summer to spend time with the wider family, children and grandchildren, the lake, and the loons.
Many of Daphne's interests remain in the decorating field --doing projects for friends and family and especially arranging flowers for church and friends. She is an avid reader and duplicate bridge player who works out with Boyd, but does it kicking and screaming.
She used her design talents in 2004 to completely "re-do" Fiddler's Green, concentrating on using the family's collected pieces to create an oasis of serene comfort surrounded by nature.
Daphne Eaton purchased this house in 1998
Daphne and Boyd bought the house from the estate after her parents' deaths because they could not bear to sell a place with so many wonderful memories attached! The house was designed and built by her parents in the early 1960's primarily because they loved sailing and so they always kept a sailboat there. Her father (a physician) was a talented amateur architect and her mother was an artist. The unique design of the house is a testimony to their joint creativity. Their lifelong love affair is celebrated in a mosaic tile table in the living area that they designed and personally made. In it are embedded symbols that translate into: 'man + woman = infinity.'
We love the solitude and privacy of Fiddler's Green for reading, study, romance, and hobbies while enjoying the wildlife and the ever-changing scene on the bay. We love the friendships that have grown from the fact that it is so easy to be with other people in this house --there are places to do things as a group or by oneself and still be nearby, in view and in earshot, and always enjoying the view. There is a table for puzzles or projects, a table for bridge or backgammon, a wonderful lazy Susan table for dining, and plenty of good light for reading. The private "his and her" office has two separate desks and plenty of work space. Since many people need to bring at least a little bit of work with them wherever they are, the office provides closed-off quiet, though still enjoying the view. Wi Fi is available all over, and the new large flat screen TV in the great room is capable of streaming Net Flix and Amazon. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped for one who enjoys cooking and the fact that it is open to the great room means the cook is part of the conversation!
Our host and property manager, Gary Long, is available to guests to help them any way he can -our repeat guests often include him in their plans for meals and golf!
....Also want to say that for 10 years we have vacationed with our children, (who are now grown) in PCB. This is without a doubt the best place we've stayed. Not sure if it is the location, furnishings in the house, the attention to details, the solitude, or what exactly, but we love it!
(maybe all of the above) I know there have been a lot of happy memories made here by you and your family down through the years. Thanks for this special memory for my husband and I. We are celebrating our 29th anniversary.
The home is beautiful and so are the views out the all glass back rooms overlooking the Bay. The guys loved the fishing docks and caught lots of neat things. We really enjoyed our stay.
Our home in Monterey CA has panoramic views of the Bay so we did not expect to be wowed by Fiddler's Green's views. Were we surprised! While sipping our morning mugs on the dock, or in a lawn chair under the oaks, or inside at an easy chair, we watched egrets, herons, ospreys fishing and mullet jumping as the sun rose over St. Andrews. Ships coming into the channel to the commercial docks, sailboats traveling the intercoastal waterway, added to the spectacle. Later wading into the grassy shallow bay, we fished for red fish and sea trout, deferring to buying shrimp at a local market if no catch. Bocce ball on the lawn under the pine trees, going inside for cool drinks and work on the puzzle at the game table, lounging with a good book from the library, playing scrabble while watching the wild life outside, and of course eating a lot at the lazy susan round table. Kitchen with every tool and dish or glass you can imagine, large refrig and freezer (which allowed only one Publix grocery store trip less than 10 minutes away). Very comfortable beds and great washer/dryer. We planned a trip to St. Andrews State Park, about 15 minutes away, but we didn't have time or inclination to leave our paradise. A wonderful warm weather retreat contrast from our summer fog and cold in Monterey CA. The owners are delightful to deal with and the on site cottage care taker helpful, available but not intrusive in any way. Why go anywhere else? This is paradise! Looking forward to returning yearly.
We searched for years for a vacation rental that fit our list of “wants” before finding this property. We wanted a place off the beaten path that offered privacy for our family while still being convenient to stores and restaurants, a great kitchen and outdoor grill, and a dock for our boat. If your idea of a great vacation includes sipping a cocktail and enjoying the beautiful gulf coast scenery from a chair on your own private dock while your children swing from a rope swing in an ancient live oak or play safely on two acres of private Saint Andrews Bay peninsula, this house is the one for you. There is a quiet side to Panama City and this home is right in the middle of it.
The home is very well appointed. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the master is on a separate wing from the guest rooms. There is a dining area, a table perfect for working one of the puzzles the owner has provided, an organ, and our kid’s favorite spot – a game table. I never thought my kids would be so happy playing at something that didn’t require a cord! They enjoyed the game table so much that we spent the last year trying to find one like it for our home.
Fiddler’s Green is close to restaurants and attractions. There’s a grocery store, seafood market, and wine store a short drive away on back roads with little traffic. If you bring or rent a boat, a whole world of vacation possibilities opens up.
Several restaurants are located within a five minute boat ride. Uncle Ernie’s (our favorite) is directly across the bay. Shell Island is a 12 minute ride. Once there, it is easy to find a private section of beach. Anchor on the bay side and take a short walk across the dunes to the beach, or; head out the pass and anchor up directly on the beach in the mornings while seas are calm. If you do, you are almost certain to find a pod of dolphins waiting to greet you just east of the jetty. We have been able to swim with them every time we’ve gone out and it’s the highlight of our trip.
We had no problem accessing either of the two docks with our 17’ boat and our friends were able to bring their 27’ boat into the bayside dock. From my experience, a pontoon or bay boat 19 feet or less would be perfect.
There is not a more perfect vacation property in Panama City. We’ve already booked our next trip and it’s still December! This property was clearly created for family and friends. Our family will be making it our summer tradition for as long as it’s available.
A surprise awaits you between a bend in Magnolia Beach Road and a nearby lagoon---a lovely home on an expansive yet private waterfront! It was a great spot for us to relax and "recharge" with friends. With panoramic (180 degree) views of St. Andrew Bay and the lagoon, one can glance out (as we did) while reading, conversing or even cooking and catch mullets jumping in mid-air or pleasure crafts making their way up the bay. The floor-to-ceiling glass in the living/great room and its open design contribute to the feeling that you are surrounded by water. Then there's the long dock with seating at the end: We found it perfect for early morning coffee and sunset cocktails.
This elegant three-bedroom, three-bath home is beautifully decorated and maintained. It has a fully equipped, modern kitchen, outdoor lounge areas under graceful trees or in sun and even a swing by the water that I certainly enjoyed. Though a retreat, it is still close to shopping for dinners at home, to restaurants for fresh seafood (if you don't catch your own) and to beaches for days in the sun. We came home unstressed and refreshed after our stay in this amazing place.
My husband and I brought his parents and my mom and aunt, to this wonderful place for a much needed vacation. We enjoyed ourselves more than we ever imagined. The house is even more beautiful than the pictures and the views are breathtaking. We wanted to take them out to eat and to a few attractions but they didn't want to leave the house. We could have stayed there the whole five days without leaving it is so spectacular. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us.
Just Awesome --We like to mix it up... My high school kids wanted to be in PCB- I thought I'd rather die! but we were so impressed, we are coming back for a second year. This is a great home. Fishing, swimming with dolphin, the beach is 12 minutes, great views, great views and wonderful views!
Call for a pontoon for the week, you can dock at either dock (yes two docks) - travel to meals by boat, the guest home and property manager is great, another asset. I cant say enough good things about this wonderful home and grounds. Enjoy it while you can!
Fishing from the dock and in the bayou is fantastic! Quotes from guestbook include: 'Super place for our family fishing trip. Monday: Red snapper, vermillion snapper, grouper, trigger fish and lost a cobia (boo hoo). Tuesday: Great day of fishing. All the same fish. Wednesday: we went out 40 NM offshore and caught 20 of the biggest snapper I've seen here in 15 years.....' Another says, grill! It was fantastic!' Other favorite things that guests mention are'early'My brother came in from Arkansas and with his help we caught and ate, fish, alligator and squirrel --all from the property ground! (We did leave plenty for the future guests)' A third says,'We caught a full sized 3 lb. octopus by the pier wand cleaned it and cooked on the grill... mornings watching sunrise on the dock...the amazing (awesome, fantastic, lovely, exquisite) house (piece of Paradise) with its 'unique personality'... ' Rental pontoon boats, waverunners, spa, tennis and golf are all available from the Wyndham Bay Point Resort less than 2 miles away. 10 minutes from St. Andrews State Park ('one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world). With its 'sugar beaches' Panama City Beach offers all the usual beach activities as well as a water park and fun houses. Pier Park, at the far end of the beach, is a shopper's heaven, with all the usual chain stores, boutiques, big-box stores, eateries of every sort, you'd expect, plus a 16 screen theater with IMAX. It's an all-brand-new, squeeky-clean mall right on the beach, with eye-catching, distinctly 'beachy' architecture. It is reachable in 20-30 minutes by Highway 98 or a bit longer by Front Beach Road, where all the huge hotels are worth a look.
